I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

GBBO

Yay!! Something good on the tele to look forward to for a change

They stopped doing the history segments when they moved to Channel 4 and had ad breaks instead.

"You'd think you would be a bit less casual with your bakes, "
🤷🏻‍♀️

This!

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 25/09/2020 06:58

The problem with Sura, I'm finding, is that she looks quite miserable to be there. However I think this may be down to unfortunate editing so I'm reserving judgement. She can certainly bake.

I think the way the judges dealt with the accident was fair. I'm sure Dave was annoyed but as it didn't affect the outcome I'm equally sure he got over it.

Egghead68 · 25/09/2020 07:01

I like Sura.

I think a lot of them were understandably very nervous this week which might have made them look miserable. If they didn’t want to be there they wouldn’t have applied.

ageingdisgracefully · 25/09/2020 08:09

I like Tom Allen. Smile but I really dislike the "slebs" they roll out to do those daft tasks. Waste of airtime.

Didn't Jo do he programme on her own until it moved, and wasn't it half an hour long originally? Or did I imagine that? Confused

Graciebobcat · 25/09/2020 08:11

Casual with your bakes my arse. I don't think Dave was being unreasonable in expecting to be able to carry his cakes to the bench without someone behaving like Animal out of The Muppets in front of him.

GBBO 2020!!
Iknowthingsthatwillhappen · 25/09/2020 08:26

But Dave at least, could see, as Sura was in front of him. ((trying to beat off a fly). So I don't think that he was entirely blameless, however I'm amazed more accidents don't happen when they carry the bakes around tbh. The judges were completely fair about it though which was great.

KitKatastrophe · 25/09/2020 08:45

I'm intrigued about how the hospital pharmacist and radiographer were able to get 6 weeks off in the middle of lockdown when the NHS were so rushed off their feet.

The Marie Antoinette cake should have got bonus points for being the only one which actually looked like a face!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/09/2020 08:47

Accidents happen. It was upsetting for both of them.

I'm looking forward to the next one :)

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/09/2020 08:54

@ilovebedtimestories

I didn’t think Dave hid his annoyance at all.

When did they stop doing the ‘history of X Y Z’ segments? They were so tedious it’s why I didn’t ever watch it.

I liked those bits.

He did use a mould though.

ppeatfruit · 25/09/2020 08:56

I like Sura too. Leave off you lot, enough already. She was genuinely upset (as anyone would be) . Also emotions are heightened in that sort of fake environment.

Sue and Mel wouldn't 've let that be filmed.

Pobblebonk · 25/09/2020 09:14

Extra Slice without Tom Allen will be a definite improvement.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/09/2020 09:17

Well - it’s not about just baking it’s creating crazy creations. In ye olden days you would think ‘oh that looks nice, I might whip up a cake later’. But create a cake head? Whatever next - a working combustion engine in meringue?

ppeatfruit · 25/09/2020 09:18

Just heard Prue on R2 she said it gets better! And how good Matt is.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/09/2020 09:19

I don’t really like him. I never have since the Vic and Bob days. Just something not very nice about him. I’m sure he’s an absolutely lovely man but that’s my gut.

PimlicoJo · 25/09/2020 09:20

I really enjoyed it. I thought Matt was lovely. Very gentle and warm, much nicer and easier to watch than I expected.

I was pleasantly surprised by him and I like the way he genuinely tucked into the cake. I wonder if he'll still fit that shirt by the end.
ppeatfruit · 25/09/2020 09:36

Nah Serenity He IS nice, dh knows him

MrsKingfisher · 25/09/2020 12:27

I thought Dave was quite rude, Matt & Noel were talking to him about music, Matt began to sing and Dave just had his back to him pretty much ignoring him, if you can have fun with anyone it would've been Matt. I might be wrong it's early days but Dave just seems to take himself very seriously and came across as a bit of an arrogant prick.

Pobblebonk · 25/09/2020 12:32

I liked the way Matt cheered Sura up by taking the blame. It was a bit reminiscent of Mel and Sue sabotaging the shot every time the camera tried to zoom in on someone crying.

minou123 · 25/09/2020 12:47

@Sadik

DD & I are watching back through the old series, currently on series 2, and it's interesting that back then Mel & Sue really were presenters who told the odd joke, rather than comedians doing their thing.

It's a shame that now GBBO is a big deal, it feels like they hire stars and have to get their money's worth from them. That's nothing against Matt Lucas (who was great in Doctor Who, I thought), but dd & I both thought someone like Joe Lysett in Sewing Bee has a nicer mix of low key gentle humour & bringing out the contestants.

sadik - where are you watching the old series? I'd love to go back and watch the first ones but I cant find them 😪
SerenityNowwwww · 25/09/2020 13:17

Who is Dave?

So who is everyone betting to win... it’s never the ‘obvious’ one is it?

Jourdain11 · 25/09/2020 13:22

Hermine seems to have some good skills. And I loved her personality and laugh!

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/09/2020 13:29

Dave is the one whose cakes ended up on the floor.
