I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

GBBO

I enjoyed that! Had reservations about Matt Lucas, but he's OK.

I think Dave looks like Robert Webb, and Peter immediately made me think of Kate Winslet.

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2020 15:39

Yes it was good! Matt is fun, his Boris sketch was brilliant!!

I agree that the cakes seemed to be difficult, (starting the Show stopper section with a portrait cake was cruel IMO).

But everyone seemed more relaxed ( perhaps because they had been with together in a "bubble' for longer than usual and rehearsed more often). Great to see a proper mix of ages too.

Those stupid jokes with Sandi are no loss!! Does anyone know if Jo is still doing an Extra slice on Friday?

Yes but there was no mention of Tom Allen.

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2020 16:20

Thanks Captain Not very sure about him Hmm . Nice to have someone different!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/09/2020 16:43

Oh! I hope Tom Allen is on An Extra Slice!

I like him!

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/09/2020 17:11

I like him too.

Stinkyguineapig · 24/09/2020 17:31

No Tom Allen would be an improvement for me!

midsomermurderess · 24/09/2020 17:34

I liked Matt Lucas much more than I was expecting and am so glad Sandi Toksvig has gone. I can't quite explain why, but I detest her. I still have to get my head around the contestants, but I don't much like Sura. Knocking over someone else's bakes and then dramatically weeping just pissed me off. All attention on her.

shesellsseashells99 · 24/09/2020 17:51

I think I have a crush on Noel.....

I thought the young chap who won Star Baker was great and the right decision. The older lady was so positive and cheerful. I really felt for the lady who accidently caused the man to drop his cakes. She seemed really genuine.

Sorry, havent remembered names yet!!

Sadik · 24/09/2020 18:12

DD & I are watching back through the old series, currently on series 2, and it's interesting that back then Mel & Sue really were presenters who told the odd joke, rather than comedians doing their thing.

It's a shame that now GBBO is a big deal, it feels like they hire stars and have to get their money's worth from them. That's nothing against Matt Lucas (who was great in Doctor Who, I thought), but dd & I both thought someone like Joe Lysett in Sewing Bee has a nicer mix of low key gentle humour & bringing out the contestants.

Sadik · 24/09/2020 18:14

Having said that Matt Lucas as Boris was hilarious!

Belledan1 · 24/09/2020 18:58

I noticed a lot of them don't seem to have young kids (unless they have not said). It's probably because isolating 7 weeks. I like Matt Lucas.

ifiwasascent · 24/09/2020 19:12

Really enjoyed this episode. Everyone seems really nice I love it when they help each other. Gutted about the lady who left she seemed really funny! I thought the lady who did the ambulance one should of gone. Star baker was well deserved!

acatcalledjohn · 24/09/2020 20:09

Because it's incomprehensible that she was genuinely upset by the whole situation.

Perhaps I should argue that Dave should have paid more attention to where he was going rather than just barging in there. I mean, she was in his field of vision, he wasn't in hers, yet she seems to be the only one getting stick from some people.

But no, she is an attention seeker who deserved the karma. Hmm

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/09/2020 21:07

She didn’t weep dramatically at all! She just looked genuinely appalled and upset at what she’d done. Why are people so unkind?

TheNavigator · 24/09/2020 21:12

I agree, Dave was in her blind spot - and balancing his cake slate on one hand! You think you would be a bit less casual with your bakes, especially approaching someone leaning over who plainly cant see you. I think Dave was just as much to blame - maybe he expects women to get out of his way - but it was judged fairly on a surviving cake so no harm done.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/09/2020 21:18

Exactly!

Happy days then.

And leave off Sura you lot. It’s not like she did it on purpose.

RunningFromInsanity · 24/09/2020 22:52

Sura knocking those cakes over was TV gold Grin and just what we need to distract us! Bake off has started at just the right time!

Becuna · 24/09/2020 23:02

I really enjoyed it, the contestants were varied and I thought Matt Lucas and Noel were really funny together.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/09/2020 23:20

I don’t think it was Dave’s fault either. He was obviously pissed off but trying to hide it well - a completely natural reaction in my opinion.

I fully agree. I was just trying to make a point in support of Sura.
Londonmummy66 · 24/09/2020 23:47

I so hope there is no Tom Allen - he is dreadful. Extra Slice was so much better when they left Jo Brand to present by herself. But hey ho we can't have a show that is hosted only by a woman can we as women aren't up to hosting on their own and need the menz (no matter how awful) to help them along.

ilovebedtimestories · 25/09/2020 00:35

I didn’t think Dave hid his annoyance at all.

When did they stop doing the ‘history of X Y Z’ segments? They were so tedious it’s why I didn’t ever watch it.

Graciebobcat · 25/09/2020 03:23

I'm sure he was seething and barely able to be polite and I would have felt the same. They are all nervous and it's very easy to make a mistake and drop your own cakes, but flapping your arms around in the tent is never going to end well.
