I haven't got to grips with all the names yet, but it seemed so unfair that the woman who knocked someone else's cakes on the floor won the technical, and karma when her showstopper fell over.

Bloke whose cakes got knocked on the floor was so calm about it. I want him to win now.

I think the first cake with the bubblegum flavour didn't help the lady who got sent home either.

I was pleasantly surprised by Matt Lucas.

Master stroke by Boris; putting himself on before Bake Off meant I was already watching great skit by Matt afterwards.

Good decision all round. Linda and Hamish were close for the heave ho I thought.

I like Peter, Laura, Irish Mark and Hermine.

Matt Lucas has been busy - just not on tv. Wonderful in Me and my Girl (and cheery/warm with everybody at the stage door). I rather like Lottie's humour - she must be having a stressful year working in her field :(

It can't be that stressful if she managed to get seven weeks off though ?

What a great start. I like Matt Lucas and he was just as I expected. I liked all the contestants and sorry one had to go. The 'busts' were beyond hilarious.

Agree re.the contestants this year! They seem good fun and I love Matt Lucas!
Lottie is the only one I don’t like.

I thought Lottie was great fun so far. Confident yet self-deprecating, sarcy and witty.

Sura was the only one I'm not sure about so far. Glad Peter got star baker.

@redlockscelt, most people who work in the theatre have had no work since March and not all were able to get any financial support. I don't think GBBO pays its contestants to take part but most are probably hoping to pick up extra work afterwards - book deals, blogging with sponsorship deals, cookery demonstrations, in a few cases TV and radio work. It could be a lifeline for Lottie.

I loved the fact that the forced and cringey humour between Noel and Sandi has gone. Matt seems to be genuinely enjoying himself - much more natural.

It's funny about Lottie isn't it? She's seems quite funny, probably really lovely irl. But there's always one like her, all hair and lipstick.

PH is not my type but he does have very striking eyes. He looks like he might glow in the dark.

I felt sorry for Sura knocking the cakes over, she was really upset about it, it was a genuine accident. Prue and Paul judged impartially and David (?) didn't come off badly in the ranking.

Unfair and karma? What a horrible comment. You make it sound like she knocked the cakes over on purpose.

Prue doesn't seem to be as nice as she usually is, I thought she was very sneery to Rowan about the temple in his battenburg !!

I doubt it, his pregnant partner and young child were also staying there in the bubble. I think that's just his natural charm - and it would melt me!

Freddie Mercury re-imagined as a beaver was a highlight.

It was just so nice to have something completely normal, and funny. I loved they chose the busts for the showstopper - they must have known it would be hilarious! Also as they're all staying together I think (towards the end) it will be much more emotional this year. Loved Lottie - so funny! Also Laura, and Sura (bless her)

And according to DH the David Bowie cake showed him as the alter ego Aladin Sane not Ziggy Stardust as the contestant said

I keep having to go back to this to remind me who they are. Am hopeless with names. I did feel for Sura, she looked close to tears even when she won the technical. None of them daft, they have all seen the show and how things can come across in the edit...She probably thought it would come across as pineapplegate. Hers was so nice she wouldn't need to hobble the competition but it would have been so much better had she accidentally elbowed Linda. They would have probably been grateful
