I saw this last year. Very thought prevocking And cleverly done

Comedy drama that shines a light on the day-to-day life of a family looking after their severely learning disabled nine-year-old girl, Rosie.

It flicks from 2007 and born and 2017 life 10yrs later and parents getting answers

Worth seeing s1 if haven’t seen it but can watch and follow if haven’t

Thanks for the heads up. It's a great program this. David Tennant and Jessica Hynes are brilliant.

Bupkis · 09/07/2020 22:12

Loved it.
Started a thread in sn chat about it, but looks like it's just me and my bucket of wine.

x2boys · 09/07/2020 22:26

Brilliant series ,as the parent of a child with similar disabilities to Rosie my child also has a rare chromosome disorder this completely resonates the author is writing about his own child btw.

Xmasbaby11 · 09/07/2020 22:33

Just as good as last series! Great acting and darkly funny.

Tana433 · 09/07/2020 22:34

Are they repeating the 1st series anywhere as i missed it. Cant see it on i-player at the moment. I loved the A Word. Is this similar?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/07/2020 22:52

I think it is soooooo cleverly written

And the girl who plays Rosie very talented

Shame s1 isn’t on iPlayer

It's very poignant but I love how they show the rea!ity for parents yes it's great kids use communication methods at school, but keeping up with it at home is rather more challenging.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/07/2020 03:12

@Tana433 I found small snippet on YouTube

May be more

the first series was excellent.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 10/07/2020 04:53

far better than the A word imo

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 10/07/2020 08:03

Absolutely wonderful.

AreYouSiriusLupin · 10/07/2020 23:12

Loved the first series- was thrilled to see the second one today on iplayer and binged the lot. So well written and beautifully acted.

thenightsky · 10/07/2020 23:21

Oh I loved the first series. I didn't know there was a second. So looking forward to catching up with this.

fairyfingers · 11/07/2020 10:41

I watched the first 3 of the second series and I must admit I had a little cry at the scene with David t and his dad in the first one.

x2boys · 11/07/2020 10:52

I love how they show ,the random things children with learning disabilities do That actually quite funny like Rosie running the wrong way in the my son does all kinds of random things and I can't help but find them amusing, his special school,s Xmas plays are absolutely hilarious

LatinforTelly · 11/07/2020 14:38

Oh didn't realise this was a 2nd series - assumed the first was being repeated. Loved the first and had a good discussion on my child's charity's facebook group about how much reasonated. (The conditions are quite different but so much was still the same.)

Will look it out on iplayer.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/07/2020 20:03

I refuse to binge

Like the thrill if that’s the right word of weekly or else it’s all done in 2.5hrs

I think the Mum character in this is amazing, how she never loses it. I think I would have had a breakdown by now especially with Simon being no support. I don’t like the Helen character though, she seems too desperate for Simon to fancy her. The girl who plays Rosie is truly amazing. It’s an uncomfortable watch sometimes but it’s very well done.

x2boys · 12/07/2020 22:00

But you have to cope what else can you do ?,I don't think Simon ,s no support I just think they cope differently which is normal tbh,ime it's usually the mothers that go to all the appointments and I definitely an the parent who encourages Ds to use his PECS and be more independent but dh,works whilst I'm the carer ,it s just a very real portrayal of life with a child with severe learning disabilities warts and all.

BreathlessCommotion · 12/07/2020 22:16

You just have to cope, no choice. My dd has ASD and would be considering pretty high functioning. but so much of this series resonates- the meltdowns, screaming, hitting, throwing and breaking things. Making unbelievable mess because of the sensory feel (lost many a moisturiser and lip balm to her "experiments"). The the holidaya when she wot settle and wants to go home as soon as we get there. The childcare saying it wasn't suitable, the Christmas obsession.

This series so far has made me cry a few times because I recognise it so much. I also having a shitty few weeks in lockdown- dd won't come out of her room, making lots of demands on all of us.

x2boys · 12/07/2020 22:33

And it's not just about coping ,as a parent most of us love our children unconditionally and it kind of becomes the norm having a child like Rosie ,and my son is very like Rosie certainly isn't easy ,but he's my child and I love him and want to do the best for him.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/07/2020 09:50

An amazing series.

The part when the mum breaks down and talks about how she imagines letting her daughter die was heart wrenching.
