I saw this last year. Very thought prevocking And cleverly done

Comedy drama that shines a light on the day-to-day life of a family looking after their severely learning disabled nine-year-old girl, Rosie.

It flicks from 2007 and born and 2017 life 10yrs later and parents getting answers

Worth seeing s1 if haven’t seen it but can watch and follow if haven’t

Wonderful series

Tennant talking about the series:

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/07/2020 21:22

I think it’s good to show the struggles of both parents

And how they differ.

And how seems to fall down to mum to do it all

love this series, i have no experience of children with SEN and it's so informative and makes me wish i could do something to help.

Notplannedforthis · 15/07/2020 21:47

Loved this series. The acting is amazing.

How on earth did they film the seizure scene?

purpleme12 · 15/07/2020 23:58

Is there anywhere I can watch series one?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/07/2020 08:11

I can’t find s1 anywhere

But it is very good

E2 on tonight

Sure many have seen whole show via iPlayer but I try and not binge so have something to watch each week

How did I miss this, I didn't realise a second series had started. Off to catchup now!

purpleme12 · 16/07/2020 08:28

Shame they haven't got series 1 on
I wanted to watch it first

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/07/2020 15:24

Tbh it’s the same. Baby and 10yrs on

But just different scenarios

But still worth a watch

Roll on tonight :)

I love this series, it's like it was written (almost) about our household - son aged 11 with no communication and virtually identical behaviours. I have traits from both the Mum - agree to do PECs at home but then not find the time - and the Dad - using sarcasm and bad jokes to ease the situation.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/07/2020 21:53

Well done @BreconBeBuggered

Tonight’s is fab.

I do think it shows dt as arsehole husband and all care goes to mum

Is it like that with most sn family ?

He’s watching tv /reading she’s trying to do her Work - he’s being no help

Grandad has no patience either And makes it clear he tolerates his granddaughter sad

Think he is embarrassed - maybe older generation thing ?

Tho nanny is lovely

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/07/2020 21:54

And the writer is basing on his own experiences of his sn child with a chromosome disorder

EggysMom · 16/07/2020 22:05

Not that I want to defend the Dad, but could it just be that he doesn't "see" Rosie as annoying her Mum in that scene? In a similar way to how men don't see mess, or things on the stairs that need taking up, or a dropped sock next to the laundry bin ... I think I'm projecting Grin Grin

x2boys · 16/07/2020 22:13

Absolutely @EggysMom can see so many similarities between me and dh and Emily and Simon ,I try and do PECS whilst ,dh often fails to see the point ,it just about coping in different ways ,The Grandad reminded me of my Dad cringing when Rosie makes noises etc

x2boys · 16/07/2020 22:18

I don't think it's fair to say the Grandad tolerates his Grandaughter ,and is embarrassed ,my Dad loves my son ,but u does find yt?he noises and shrieking hard work ,I think SImon is more laid back ,I ts very realistic ,parents cope in different ways

purpleme12 · 16/07/2020 23:51

I've watched episode one and two now (not binge watching). Didn't see the first series
Think it's really good. Not what I would describe as a comedy but I really like it.
The actress is so good!
I really don't like the grandad

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/07/2020 23:58

How on earth did they film the seizure scene?
That was exactly what I was thinking tonight. Absolutely terrifying and shocking. Had my heart in my mouth.

zeromango · 17/07/2020 00:08

It's fantastic - so true to life and so many scenes resonate! I'm currently in the "2007" stage. So it's so refreshing to see something so relatable for once.

x2boys · 17/07/2020 00:10

It's a black comedy ,I can see why people would ,nt see it as funny ,but my child has very similar needs to Rosie and personally I find some parts very funny ,admittedly I do have a very dark sense of humour ,goes with the territory maybe?Everything Rosie does I can imagine my son doing ,sometimes you have to laugh or you would cry .

x2boys · 17/07/2020 00:16

Like yesterday my son tipped a tin of red paint everywhere all over the bedroom carpet ,bloody red paint everywhere he's totally obilvious of course ,thankfully it's a cheap carpet but after the initial annoyance he made me laugh with his delight in footprints everywhere nightmare to clean up though and I'm still finding red splodges everywhere!

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/07/2020 08:52

The young actress is brilliant. Rosie reminds me very much of a child I once taught in a mainstream class, although this child was more verbal. She turned up without any diagnosis or extra help, the school had to go through the process. I could just about cope with her in a Reception class (I had to video her in action to get the Head to give me extra classroom help) but used to feel sorry for her parents dealing with it all the time at home. The parents did eventually split up, sadly.

Argggghhneedclarity · 17/07/2020 20:39

This is such a brilliant programme. I loved first series and I'm watching s2 on iplayer now. The dark comedy of it is spot on

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/07/2020 07:38

Simon is more laid back but as a dad and most dads go to work he doesn’t have to deal with the tantrums and behaviour all day

Goes down to mum

Which is probably same in most relationships

changenamez · 22/07/2020 20:50

I watched it and thought it was well written. Made me sad as I was the sibling in the family growing up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/07/2020 15:33

Did you feel neglected ?
