I really enjoyed the last series hopefully this will be as good.

He was really beautiful. It makes me really sad to see how he has messed with his face.

My friend is a breast surgeon, I was asking her about fillers the other day from a medical standpoint. I am totally clueless and hadn't realised fillers were permanent, I suppose I had thought they were more like Botox which lessens over time. Anyway, my friend told me that in the 90's it was quite popular for women to 'nip out in their lunch hour to get breast fillers'. Now she has these women visiting her because they have lumpy/rocks in their breasts as a result of the treatment. They want to know what she can do and the only option is a mastectomy. Incredibly sad.
She said she doesn't how much fillers have changed over time but she worries about the lung term effects. Her point being that putting anything permanent and 'free to roam' (unlike say an implant) worries her. She says the breast fillers from the nineties was like putting in liquid concrete that will eventually dry. I am sure it has been developed more in the last twenty years but I wouldn't want my loved ones messing with it.

Ophelia Hannah and the Irish lad (sorry awful at names)

I love the male judges jumpers and I found the female judge's voice so ASMR tingly

That's so sad that picture of Jake, couldn't believe it was the same person

The right person left yesterday - thought was the most "eve" face off I've seen so far in regard to both standard and fulfilling the brief.

James had a poor week - his "horror" make-up was superb - but didn't send a shiver down your spine, while all of the girls' models caused a visceral reaction in me - the maggots . . . and the starfish covering the mouth . . . . . .though to be fair, suffocation/drowning are recurring nightmares of mine, so that probably played into it.

Berny's effort was just pathetic! And he made such a pig's ear of the first challenge - I was shouting at the telly "It's on the wrong side!".

Eve is proving to be a dark horse, isn't she? A much stronger contender than I expected her to be. And I love her pink hair. I had hair a similar colour (a bit more towards the peach spectrum) thirty years ago and I loved it, though DH didn't. I wouldn't like to guess who will go out next week - they are all of such a high standard now, and getting better - but anyone can have an "off" week.

Ophelia is still my hot favourite, though.

Yes I agree, I think the right person left too. They seemed the most trained person but really struggled and their work was not good.

WARNING SPOILERS BELOW!

I still think James is incredibly talented but everything he does is wonderfully beautiful. He doesn't really create the negative (ugly, horrifying etc)

I am glad Eve had a good week as she seems a lovely person but lacks confidence. I imagine with some professional training Hannah would be amazing. She is quite a raw talent and I hope she goes into the business - I don't know if she'll win as I think she may be let down technically in the last few weeks.

Ophelia's work was brilliant this week, those parasites! I'd like to see her or James win.

This programme creases me.

Every real make up artist I know hates it. Because its just face painting. Really bloody good face painting, but it's not what a make up artist actually does.

The right person went, I had to keep covering my eyes so have no idea if Hannah's was any good, Holes give me the boke.
Eve did really well this week. I like all of the ones left but think Ophelia has the edge.

@GuyFawkesDay surely you mean your “MUA” friends Wink ?

I would love to know more about proper make up artistry and how it differs to what they do on Glow Up. If it isn’t the real deal how come Val and Dominic go along with it. Or are they not all that in the industry? I know nothing about make up but love this show and would like to understand it more if anyone would like to educate me!

Well MUAs on things like films and TV gave to make and use wigs, bears and moustaches. Hand made, each hair knotted.

Prosthetics making and application is a whole other skill set in itself.

Period looks take a lot of knowledge and skill and using the right tools.

Knowing which products to use to achieve a person looking ill. Even dead.

Glow Up is fun but it's definitely catwalk type make up.

What was Berny's meant to be?

I did love the challenge this week. They've had great work experience this season whether they win or not.

A peacock Hmm he could at least used feathers.
Berny is the opposite of Eve, he thinks he's better than he is.

Berny kept saying how he had experience here and there, he'd already worked at London fashion week etc. The others haven't so I'd have thought he needed to be much better than them all.

Thanks GuyFawkesDay that helps put what they do on Glow Up into context. I was also reading on Reddit about last series and someone said they’d gone through the selection process and it became clear that the producers were all about getting personalities on screen rather than those with pure talent who might just get on with the challenges.

Sigh. Wouldn’t it be nice if these programmes moved away from personal drama and back story and actually looked for true talent...

Every pro MUA I know just rolls their eyes and says give them 100 SAs (extras) in a crowd room on a period shoot, 3 hours to give them all 1940s hair and make up and say go. They'd have no clue. Or how to do proper 1920s finger waves using hot rods. MUAs on set also do barbering on men etc.

It's a hugely skilled job and Glow, whilst great fun, doesn't represent the bigger job. It's definitely more catwalk facepainty stuff

Berny deserved to go. Although close call.

Report
PinkDaydreams · 16/06/2020 17:13

I agree, Berny did deserve to go, there’s something about him I haven’t liked all along but haven’t been able to put my finger on what ‘it’ is. Maybe like @Cocolapew has said, it’s because he thinks he’s better than everyone else.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 16/06/2020 19:33

@PinkDaydreams I'm exactly the same. I didn't take to him either, but can't figure out why.

So glad I found this thread. Love Glow Up.

Jake shouldn't even have been on the show. He was purely there for 'drama and entertainment'. He has ruined his face.

Bernie comes across as stroppy and thinks that he is better than everyone else. He was always in a mood.

Love Ophelia. She is so talented. Hannah is good but needs some training. James also produces good stuff. Eve is good but lacks confidence.

Does anyone know what happened to last series' winner, was Belinda her name?

Report
PinkDaydreams · 17/06/2020 08:45

@TreeTopTim I think it was Ellis that won. I wanted Belinda to win though

TreeTopTim · 17/06/2020 09:30

@PinkDaydreams so it was. Don't know why I thought that it was Belinda.

PinkDaydreams · 17/06/2020 10:19

Probably because she was really good too!
I had a nosey in Bernys insta and his work is all very samey
