I am a LoD fanatic. Have tried Happy Valley (it was good but didn’t like the cast as much and switched off in season 2). Spooks - episode 2 traumatised me and haven’t watched any more. Also find it hard to watch it as it’s 18 years old, no idea why!! Loved The Nest too. Maybe I’m obsessed with Martin Compston?? Anyway... LoD fans... is there anything as good out there?

Giri/Haji superb as was Informer.

Less keen on series two of Hidden than the first one but I think I watched the Welsh version so I didn't entirely concentrate.

Strike very good and yes I remember seeing that there's supposed to be another series coming soon.

Unorthodox would rank highly in my 'best dramas' ever but it's not a police procedural.

I love Unforgotten too.

Mrsbadger77 · 30/05/2020 22:37

Has anyone mentioned Hidden ? There are two series on iplayer. It's absolutely brilliant.

Italiangreyhound · 31/05/2020 00:05

Loved The Bodyguard, The Capture (BBC), The Nest and Silent Witness. Just started watching Waking the Dead.

I adored the Good Wife and later The Ghod Fight (channel 4).

A Confession (ITV) is a true story; so very sad. I feel a bit weird to say I enjoyed it; but excellent acting and a very moving story.

Italiangreyhound · 31/05/2020 00:09

plus I enjoyed the sad true story of 'The Widower'. British television miniseries on ITV.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 31/05/2020 06:49

I've enjoyed Collateral (2018 TV series on Prime, Netflix, others). Wonderful cast including Carey Mulligan as the pregnant Detective Inspector, and one or two situations / dilemmas that seemed fresh to me (but until lockdown I didn't watch a huge amount of TV so may not be the best judge).

Whoever said Westworld fell down after Season 1 may well be right, but I'll probably never find out. Now Tv is reminding me that I need to finish Season 2 before it disappears in a few days. I've watched the first 2 episodes and can't be bothered any more. Nothing wrong with the production, or even the plot so far, it's just All Too Much Misery and Hopelessness. Not quite what one needs right now.

ElizabethMainwaring · 31/05/2020 06:54

Dead Ringers said that Martin Compton in LoD 'dresses and sounds like a six year old at a wedding'. Smile

ElizabethMainwaring · 31/05/2020 06:55

Compston, obviously.

Another vote for The Informer - and only watched it because of the recommendations on this board. A bit slower than perhaps am used to and thought Gabe was a bit difficult to like but I thought the actor who played Rizla was brilliant. Just read that the viewing figures weren’t great and they aren’t doing a second series. Would have liked to have found out what happened to his “mother” - thought that storyline was really interesting.

colouringindoors · 08/06/2020 00:14

Highly recommend The Bridge. Scandi so not a direct comparison, but in terms of quality of writing, characters is absolutely excellent.

NachoNachoMan · 08/06/2020 03:54

Whitechapel began well but got absolutely stupid towards the end. Bodies is good but last episode was a bit of a disappointment.

Unforgotten on ITV is excellent, I always find BBC dramas much better than ITV but Unforgotten is an absolute gem.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 08/06/2020 04:08

I’ve just binged watched Life in Mars following the recommendation from Mark Kermode.

We really enjoyed Bosch on Amazon Prime. One series was a bit iffy but the others have been fantastic.

slinkysaluki · 09/06/2020 20:58

Currently watching Cardinal on Iplayer very good

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 09/06/2020 21:29

I'm currently being smacked in the gob by The Shadow Line. I have vague memories of rave reviews when it was first on TV, but this is my first viewing. Definitely a precursor to LOD. Some of it seems cliched now - Hugo Blick's writing/producing/directing (!) work had come on a fair bit by the time he made The Honourable Woman. But it's very engrossing. (I could happily spend the entire seven hours watching Christopher Eccleston's face.)

IntermittentParps · 10/06/2020 09:58

God, I'd forgotten about The Shadow Line. It was quite ludicrous in places, but such a good watch. Wasn't Rafe Spall in it as an OTT and yet terrifying character?

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 10/06/2020 10:22

Rafe Spall is amaaaaaaaazing as a sweet faced psychopath. But Stephen Rea ...ShockShockShock

pinktaxi · 10/06/2020 11:01

I loved DEVS. Not at all like LoD but equally twisty with good strong characters.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 10/06/2020 16:03

Well, IntermittentParps, you were right - The Shadow Line did turn to the ludicrous in the second half of the serial. I've spent the afternoon screaming "Why isn't he dead yet?!!" at the screen.

Still ... Was Not Expecting That.

Badly in need of light relief now.

Frauhubert · 10/06/2020 16:24

Sorry to highjack, is there anything close in vibe to broadchurch? I watched hinterland and the fall, happy valley and One of us (which have kiiiiind of similar feel, but not the same)
I haven’t watched Line of duty but as someone compared it here to Broadchurch, I am starting now!

Frauhubert · 10/06/2020 16:28

P.s also watched all the scandi crime series

IntermittentParps · 10/06/2020 17:27

Frauhubert, maybe The Missing. Not sure it has a Broadchurch 'vibe' as both seasons are set outside the UK, but they both centre on children/young people.

Line of Duty isn't really like Broadchurch. Much less 'cosy' feel, less emphasis on family/community, generally more hard-bitten. LoD is excellent though.

CanofCant · 11/06/2020 23:11

Ooh yeah Informer was brilliant. Glad to see another series of Cardinal is on too. I really enjoyed The Sinner, it was on BBC but now showing on Netflix. Series 3 is out soon.

Frauhubert · 12/06/2020 08:21

IntermittentParps Thank you

slinkysaluki · 12/06/2020 21:41

Dicte Crime Reporter is good also on E4

Gercha · 14/06/2020 09:33

Trial and Retribution. A Place of Execution.

Oldies but goodies.
