I am a LoD fanatic. Have tried Happy Valley (it was good but didn’t like the cast as much and switched off in season 2). Spooks - episode 2 traumatised me and haven’t watched any more. Also find it hard to watch it as it’s 18 years old, no idea why!! Loved The Nest too. Maybe I’m obsessed with Martin Compston?? Anyway... LoD fans... is there anything as good out there?

I have solved the original question - but scrolling through the thread again I'm mortified to see at least one other person got there before me: Gangs of London.

Absolutely the best replacement for LOD. It does admittedly lack Adrian Dunbar and his deadpan humour - but my god, the cast they've gathered is just astonishing. And it feels fresh, whereas LOD was beginning to amble into Lost territory ... The violence is ... too beautifully curated to provoke any truly visceral response. It's tense and exciting but there are moments of relief / release, so one doesn't suffer the feeling of overwhelming depression brought on by Westworld. It's LOD with the swagger of Peaky Blinders and the international reach of The Honourable Woman. Fabulous.

I have nearly finished thirteen on iplayer and it's brilliant, I'd really recommend it. Jodie Comer is a great actress.

And the advantage of strange accordian music in the theme tune.

I thought Save Me and Save Me too, on Sky/Now TV was pretty good. Lenny James is great although his character is infuriating. Blood on C5 is pretty good too, also with Adrian Dunbar. It's very downbeat and some of the characters are a bit hard to stomach, but it held my attention.

I need to join this party. Everyone is raving about Gangs of London but I haven't got Sky so can't watch it

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 24/05/2020 10:33

I don't have Sky either. But you should be able to watch it if you take out a free trial on Now TV. (I'm not absolutely sure, because I carried on with the subscription and may have watched it after the free trial. Can't remember.)

Dickorydockwhatthe · 24/05/2020 12:23

Have you watched The Informer? One series but so good and gripped me like Line of Duty.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 24/05/2020 15:05

@PerditaProvokesEnmity

Thanks, I'm on it 👌🏼

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/05/2020 17:06

Waking the Dead (all series currently on IPlayer)

IntermittentParps · 26/05/2020 16:44

I second Ripper Street. Hugely underrated. Rich, original, beautifully realised, great acting.

thenightsky · 26/05/2020 16:46

Another vote for The Informer. Also found Caliphate on Netflix gripping.

redskittleorangeskittle · 29/05/2020 15:41

I’m currently up to season 4 of LOD. I thought that season 3 was amazing, but this series feels a bit flat somehow.
Op if you have Netflix then Ozark is very good. Also homeland if you haven’t already seen it - might be on the Channel 4 app too.

redskittleorangeskittle · 29/05/2020 15:43

Oooh Unorthodox is also fab.

HelenRose1111 · 29/05/2020 15:45

Try Missing (NOT the Missing, although that;s fabulous too)
it's a BBC Wales with subtitles in places, don't let that put you off. It will grip you. There are 2 series, on BBCiPlayer

IntermittentParps · 29/05/2020 15:46

What's Missing? I can only think of Hidden.

Calphurnia · 29/05/2020 15:48

The Secret- Netflix

ageingdisgracefully · 29/05/2020 16:29

There's a series on S4c (BBC) called 35 Diwrnod.

It's slow and strangely gripping.

In Welsh with subtitles. Go into iPlayer and select S4C.

HelenRose1111 · 29/05/2020 17:02

Oh god I’m so sorry - the bbc Wales drama is of course HIDDEN not Missing - this is what you get for working and mumsnetting simultaneously
Both series are utterly gripping
:(

IntermittentParps · 29/05/2020 18:13

That's a bit disappointing; I liked Hidden and LOVED Hinterland and was all excited at the thought of another Welsh drama Grin

ageingdisgracefully, I'll check that one out; thank you.

AgnesNaismith · 29/05/2020 18:15

Yes - Strike

IntermittentParps · 29/05/2020 18:25

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Strike! I had read that there was a new series on the way. Wonder if it was stymied by covid.

AgnesNaismith · 29/05/2020 19:01

I don’t know why it’s not more popular @IntermittentParps - love the username

IntermittentParps · 29/05/2020 19:17

Thanks!

Was it not popular? I can't remember but was it on at a strange/obscure time of night or something, like Giri/Haji? (which is a modern classic IMO).

AgnesNaismith · 29/05/2020 21:35

I don’t think so but may be wrong - I stumbled across it, thankfully. So well cast!

IntermittentParps · 30/05/2020 13:17

Yes, the two leads' relationship made it, IMO.
