I am a LoD fanatic. Have tried Happy Valley (it was good but didn’t like the cast as much and switched off in season 2). Spooks - episode 2 traumatised me and haven’t watched any more. Also find it hard to watch it as it’s 18 years old, no idea why!! Loved The Nest too. Maybe I’m obsessed with Martin Compston?? Anyway... LoD fans... is there anything as good out there?

Broadchurch is good and Luther

Skykavin · 02/05/2020 22:28

Luther is great and a similar vibe I thought Smile

MrsGibbs · 02/05/2020 22:28

Yeah I enjoyed Luther too.
Marcella was a bit mental but I quite enjoyed that too.

SouthsideOwl · 02/05/2020 22:29

Hmmmmm.....LOD definitely has a certain zing. However, as a big fan myself you could try:

Silent Witness (BBC)
Luther (Netflix/BBC)
Night and Day (Spanish, 4od)
La Mante (French, Netflix)

They are all dark and cop-y.

It's tough though...LOD is hard to beat!!

AlviesMam · 02/05/2020 22:30

I love Martin Compston too haha! Did you watch the nest? Also blood channel 5 supposed to be a good watch , has Adrian Dunbar in Smile

Smillar2020 · 02/05/2020 22:40

Luther a good shout. I will watch tomorrow. LOVED The Nest!

Oh and I liked Bodyguard. But again didn’t match up to LoD...

Wisting iplayer
Walter Presents dramas on All4

nitgel · 02/05/2020 22:44

Bodies ? Also by jed mercurio

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/05/2020 22:44

We re-watched LoD at the start of Lockdowm

Then DD made me watch "Whitechapel" which is brilliant ( and added bonus , Craig Parkinson - Dot Cottan- plays The Krays in one episode )

I'm going to dig up The Secret of Critchly Hall , he's in that it was pretty good .

I haven't watched Luther except one episode .

Spooks was very dated .Gave up

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/05/2020 22:45

Oh , Bodies Shock . Watch with crossed legs .

Anyone else think they should've just not bothered with the final episode ?

TwoScottieDogs · 02/05/2020 22:52

Loved Bodies!!! Probably one of the best things I've ever seen. I agree about the last episode though. I like to think it ended with the penultimate episode. Didn't like the CJD/mad cow disease story line.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/05/2020 22:52

Luther is nothing like! Very cartoonish.

Ultraviolet matches LOD in terms of drama - but the supernatural element means it's not quite the same thing. And you'd find it dated ...

Two extremes: The Wire, or ... Shetland. Both glorious in their separate ways.

Something entirely different - more subtle, more nuanced, much funnier, completely, devastatingly perfect: Detectorists.

Hepzibar · 02/05/2020 22:53

I too love LOD and nothing can match it.

But ... I liked Broadchurch

And - if you haven't seen it Life on Mars series 1&2 are on IPlayer. This is as good as it was the first time round. If you don't love Gene Hunt and Sam Tyler then there is something seriously wrong with you.

Yellowcakestand · 02/05/2020 23:05

Nothing, no. Although I did like things from a while ago. Dr Foster, Happy Valley. I've just finished the first season of Blood, ready to watch what's been on this week. That was good.
Ive not long finished Paranoid on Netflix. That was good too

EngagedAgain · 02/05/2020 23:09

Mmm, Adrian Dunbar, love his voice as much as anything else!

muddledmidget · 02/05/2020 23:13

DH and I like LoD, and have also both enjoyed Sherlock and Whitechapel, and we've just finished The Good Doctor (not crime related but we both enjoyed it)

Seriously amazing

Blownaway1 · 02/05/2020 23:20

Killing eve. Series one of this was better than Line of duty and some of the best television I’ve watched.

Whoopsmahoot · 02/05/2020 23:35

Just finished Money Heist in Netflix, v v good. You won’t b disappointed.

barbites · 02/05/2020 23:39

The missing
The Killing
The stranger
The Fall
Wallander
Hinterland

docemmett · 02/05/2020 23:50

The Bridge is amazing. Also enjoyed The Tunnel (UK version)

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 02/05/2020 23:51

Ultraviolet was amazing (starring a young Idris Elba)
Give Spooks another go. It’s never as stomach churning as episode 2 again.
The Shadow Line was fantastic but I don’t think it’s available anywhere.
Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes are on iPlayer, well worth a go - because they’re set in the past the fact that they’re “old” might not bother you.

alwaysstressed · 03/05/2020 00:11

I couldn't get into Luther at all. Idris Elbas acting was atrocious he just wasn't believable at all!
I recently watched Unforgotten on Netflix and loved it, id defo recommend it
