seriously. i'm watching it now for work and it is terribly upsetting. Claire Verity says 'i'm a bitch, i'm mean to them but it works', no touching, no eye contact, lots of talking about 'baby', presumably because she can't be arsed remembering the name... oh it's AWFUL.

I read about it The Times on Sunday, in the Culture bit. They weren't impressed and suspected (hoped?) it would just make most parents realise that doing it their own way os probably best.

beansprout · 25/09/2007 18:15

It's actually going to be disturbing to watch someone neglect a crying baby.

"Routine". FFS.

Tamdin · 25/09/2007 18:18

I feel so for all the parents who will see that programme and follow her 'methods'. it makes me sooooooo MAD

MadamePlatypus · 25/09/2007 18:46

I am going to watch it so that atleast when I write my complaint (to the production company? to my MP?) I can say I have seen it.

The thing that really annoys me is that Claire Verity is less of an expert on childcare than nextdoor's cat and nobody, not qualified child care experts, and not even Gina Ford, would advocate a real 'Truby King' routine.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/09/2007 19:58

what time is it on?....have i missed it?

My mum has just called me to remind me about this and said
"oh it looks quite good"

I had to warn her slightly about what she was letting herself in for!

Trinityrhino · 25/09/2007 20:24

I'm having a rough time my 5 month DS who cries a lot- lots of well wishing advice from friends/ relatives/bystanders about how he has me wrapped around his fingers as I never leave him to cry- I feel like a terrible mummy so am going to watch this programme and read the book- why love matters that you recommend with a hope that I will begin to feel that my instincts (to meet his needs for comfort and love) are right...

yogimum · 25/09/2007 21:03

Somebody told me to leave ds to cry at night. I have been a nanny/maternity nurse for nearly 15 years. I told her quite sternly "I have never left anybody elses child let alone my own."

UpperClassFemmeLesbian · 25/09/2007 21:03

oh Jen... it's tough, my pal had a crying baby, it was just one of those things. he's a sweetie now, very clever, she thinks he was pissed off about being young and not being able to communicate.
watch the programme, you'll see what your options really were and i bet you'll see you're doing the right thing.

yogimum · 25/09/2007 21:03
