So, I'm very late this (8 years it seems) but as all episodes are on iplayer, we've started series 1 tonight.

Everyone raves about it and says how fantastic it is and yes, episode 1 was ok but I think I was expecting more?

Does it ramp up so you're desperate to watch the whole series at once? Then is each new series better than the last? Or is it a programme that has been vastly overrated?

I know we've only seen an hour so far but with some programmes (Capture, Night Manager, Luther) I was gripped after half an hour...

OP posts:
RosesandIris · 11/04/2020 22:44

I’ve watched the first two series. Finding it very underwhelming but trying to persevere.

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/04/2020 01:51

The thing is that from series 2 you get references and pieces of the jigsaw that slowly start to come together in the over all story arc which makes it compelling viewing.
Also, with a few exceptions, the action is not guns and chases but long and detailed police interviews which make it seem a slow burn too.
But just wait until an "urgent exit" is required...

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/04/2020 01:52

@RosesandIris has Lindsay Denton arrived yet?

Mrs71 · 12/04/2020 02:10

Keep going! One of my favourite TV shows. Series 4 is also my favourite.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 09:20

There’s a scene in the office where Dot crouches to talk to Steve which is one of the funniest things ever. Says so much about their characters in a fleeting moment.

Charley50 · 12/04/2020 09:25

If you don't like it, don't keep watching it! It doesn't appeal to everyone of course.

RosesandIris · 12/04/2020 09:27

I’m getting into it now. Two episodes into series three. Lindsay Denton arrived series two

Juanmorebeer · 12/04/2020 09:36

Yeah it's great keep with it. Bad news apparently they didn't finish filming on s6 before lockdown. I am so gutted!

diddl · 12/04/2020 09:42

Series one I think is still my favourite-Gates, Cottan & Morton-brilliant!

"they didn't finish filming on s6 before lockdown."-Noooooo!

emmetgirl · 12/04/2020 09:43

Stick with it. It's excellent!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2020 12:10

I didn't get Series 1 , it was slow .

But I started watching Series 3 last episode ( I know Blush no logic) and was hooked Grin

Just binge watched Series 2 (my favourite) then 3 (good) then 4 ( found it harder to follow) then Series 1 again ........... and lots drops into place .
The characters do grow on you , Ted becomes a more prominent character with his phrases .

Keep Steve Arnott , I'm on Dot Cottan . Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2020 12:14

Oh , I lied .
Series 5 I found tough going .
Series 4 was the one with Thandie Newman , that was brilliant .
(But still preferred Series 2)

NannyR · 12/04/2020 12:23

I'm not surprised you got hooked by watching the last episode of s3 - that was the "urgent exit required" one wasn't it?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2020 12:37

Urgent Exit Required - yes Grin

Arseit · 12/04/2020 12:53

I had never seen this pre-lockdown. Only series 5 to go. Binged all the other series one night at a time! Keep going Op, it’s fab.

SarahTancredi · 12/04/2020 12:56

The last season sucks. They seem to have new format which makes it look really cheap and they all suddenly forget how to act.

The rest of the seasons are good though since you get past the fact he has to shag everyone in it

Leakinglikeacolander · 12/04/2020 12:57

Stick with it.

OneofPansPeople · 12/04/2020 13:06

You'll be sucking diesel before you know it and if you don't go weak at the knees at the very whisper of 'bent coppers' there's something wrong with you .

Ariela · 12/04/2020 13:44

Is there a new series coming out soon?

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 16:40

No Sad, they’d started filming series 6 but had to stop because of lockdown.

BakedCam · 12/04/2020 16:51

Keep going.

Lyndsey Denton was the best female character in my opinion.

But in the last series, the icy woman usually know for comedy, was a great character.

Loved it.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 12/04/2020 16:56

I think it's good but don't recognise some of the descriptions of brilliance here! The plots are compelling, but the acting is a bit hit and miss, I think. I definitely think it's worth persisting with, but we all have different tastes - you've named what I consider to be one of the most shockingly overrated programmes ever (Luther) as a favourite in your OP!

Mrsjayy · 12/04/2020 17:21

@70isalimitnotatarget your watching logic is hilarious Grin.

Lindsay Denton is a wonderful. Character an actual fruit loop !

BehindTheGreenDoor · 12/04/2020 17:35

Lisa I love it but I would agree the acting is hit and miss. For me it’s more about the long, tense interview scenes and then the intense bits of action. I didn’t enjoy 4 and 5 as much as 2 and 3. But I will always love Ted Hastings, like the battle.

Sandleman · 12/04/2020 17:44

@LisaSimpsonsbff I agree with you re Luther. I am about to start LoD.

Just finished Homeland and looking for something else. Any recommendations?
