Starting the thread early... Looking forward to tonight as some online friends of ds2 are on ... I have a feeling I will need tissues...

Thanks Eine I’ll definitely google that.

LaneBoy · 11/04/2020 22:05

The thing I found uncomfortable about This Is Me - much as I thought they did a good performance (and I love the Greatest Showman and the song) - is the clash between the praise and admiration on the show and how you’re treated in real life if you’re different and need support. It just made me sad.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/04/2020 22:10

Yes thats definitely part of the wider issues, too

MissEliza · 11/04/2020 22:20

@LaneBoy that's how I felt too. I found Amanda and Alesha's tears particularly irritating for that reason.

SouthWestmom · 11/04/2020 22:32

I hated that they left the tears - normal people would use a tissue.

I liked it because they were using a skill, done well, and competing on the same level as others. I can sign a tiny bit (few words) - it's brilliant to be able to do it to music. Also, a whole range of people were involved in the performance and not just the usual cute tiny child.

That pissed me right off too. Tears as virtue signalling - look I’m crying, see my tears. It was so deliberate and manipulative not to use a tissue or failing that, use their hands to wipe their tears. They wanted to be sure no one watching could be left in any doubt that they were moved. Really grim.

I liked the choir! My oldest Dd went to St Annes and was in that choir I had a bit of a proud mummy moment!

I found the cream eggs (as pp said) a bit hard to watchBlush

Sertchgi123 · 12/04/2020 13:59

Well I really enjoyed it! A very welcome dose of cheese, honest entertainment, humour and a touch of emotion, lovely.

I think Yakub should be snapped up by the Royal Ballet School and what a beautiful looking child he is.

Standrewsschool · 12/04/2020 16:41

I wondered about Yakub and child protection also. He seemed very nervous.

Liked the Indian dance group.

The first choir were good, but could have given it a bit more oomph. It was a bit one dimensional to me.

Love the cream eggs and the dashunds.

I also think of Eric as little. I’m amazed that he’s so much in the public eye, as most celebrities like to keep their families private. Did he have his own security guard?

The comedian was better than expected. I agree that the ventriloquist was good, just didn’t have a good act.

Magician was clever, but predictable. There’s been too many story-telling magic acts recently (although still reeling over X from last year).

This is Me was very sweet. Didn’t like how they used the younger brother as the sob story at the beginning. Loved that the 18 year had everyone singing and signing though. Thought Alesha or Amanda would press the golden buzzer.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/04/2020 20:20

I keep waiting for the contortionist guy they've put on Youtube. I don't remember seeing him on last weeks.

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 20:23

Hellooooooo!

Elderflower14 · 18/04/2020 20:23

Contortionist was on last week... It was revolting....

OP posts:
Crinkle77 · 18/04/2020 20:24

I didn't like that choir.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/04/2020 20:28

How did I miss the contortionist ? Confused

I WAS HERE! Confused

Elderflower14 · 18/04/2020 20:30

You do mean the man doing the revolting things with his body??
This bloke reminded me of Peter Skellern.....

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 20:30

You clearly nodded off eine Grin

Crinkle77 · 18/04/2020 20:31

Not sure it's deserving of the golden buzzer.

LaneBoy · 18/04/2020 20:31

Or you blanked it out because it was terrifying :o

Awww the pianist was so sweet. I loved the line about David writing another book :o

Elderflower14 · 18/04/2020 20:32

Yay.... I liked him..

Crinkle77 · 18/04/2020 20:32

I thought it was a good performance but didn't wow me.

Soubriquet · 18/04/2020 20:32

He was ok.

The only thing that made me laugh was the teenager going “ugh”

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 20:37

His younger son was beautiful.
