Starts on monday, I don't want to say anything about Jacks personality and get the thread deleted but I'm going to be interested to see how it goes. Jamie's show has been great even now he's just filming on his phone and I've picked up lots of tips - like the roasting of veg then blending to make a pasta sauce. After all of Jacks deleted tweets she's set the bar very high for herself and I'm hoping she does smash it

I can’t see there being too many repeats of DKL in its current format. And I would be ok with that. Joyless is the best description for it.

I am tired of it being trotted out whenever we say something That isn’t gushing.

Sometimes folk aren’t good at things. It is ok to call that out.

She has written 6 cookery books that are mostly about making do with store cupboard ingredients. She has sold thousands of books for goodness sake. She has won awards for her books. She has over 275,000 followers on twitter. She has been given an honorary Degree.

All this and despite working 20 hours a day she still needs to ask for money from the public. So brave.

It must have been heartbreaking to have gone for an interview, believed that with all your experience of books/blogs/newspaper articles about using store cupboard ingredients you were perfect for the job only to see it go to someone else

It must have been nerve racking for her. Her last job interview was a decade ago with someone who worked for her dad.

Give the girl a break...apart from anything we need more diversity on tv!

Can anyone else think of any other white lass on the BBC from the home counties ghettos who's dad was a working class senior manager for the fire service with a salt of the earth MBE and who fought their way up through a prestigious grammar? I can't.

I was one of the public who supported her Kickstarter. It was about two years from paying to getting the book. In between there were a few emails complaining about people being unsupportive about not getting their books and how hard she had been working to finish it. Lost my respect for her after that - along with the whole 'they/them' drama...

She raised money to buy copies of her book to give to food banks, which always seemed a little self serving to me. I reckon the food banks would rather have the money.

I think the Kickstarter was actually for her second book. She didn’t have a publisher at that time, sought to raise £8,000 and was pledged nearly £70,000. There was then a huge delay - 2 or 3 years - during which she failed to update her backers and even moaned about them. A version of the Kickstarter book was then made available through Amazon before all the backers had received their copies (and the Amazon version had photos and an index, unlike the Kickstarter version). Many of the books arrived damaged as they had been inadequately packaged. A launch party had also been promised to backers who had pledged a certain amount, but I believe this never happened. A LOT of people felt very ripped off.

I think the Kickstarter was book three? She had A Girl Called Jack and then one where she was all floral on the cover wearing a pinny. The Kickstarter book was cheaply made with line drawings - after two years of waiting!

Yes, I think the Kickstarter was for the third book too. I have the first two books as I liked her back then but wasn't tempted to chip in to the Kickstarter.

There is a guardian article (can't work out how to do like on my tablet) from just after she started the Kickstarter campaign, where she states she didn't approach a publisher because she wanted to deliver the book in less than the 12 to 18 months it would take if she used a mainstream publisher. She also stated she had written a lengthy business plan that accounted for every eventuality.

No mention of being dropped because she came out as trans.

I’ve learned a new word today.

Well it isn’t new but it clearly has a new meaning. Apparently attacked means ‘I’ve been such a hole lately that I’m deeply paranoid and it means that everyone is talking about meeeeeeeeeeeeee because I’m the centre of the meeeeeeniverse’.

Ah the meeeeniverse, in which as Lorde says 'baby I rule, I rule, I rule, don't say a thing against me' (even if I am deframatory, offensive and generally horrible about you) or I will tantrum and cry foul!

She really shouldn’t be saying things like she feels “attacked” - after all, this is a gentle daytime show, and she certainly isn’t being attacked. Before you know it, her flying monkeys (aka rabid Twitter followers) will be crying “bully” at Matt & anyone else they feel like.
