Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

I couldn't believe Laura's staircase for a man with mobility issues. The snug was not nicely decorated.
Did Robert put a shower room upstairs but no loo ?
The main bathroom he put on the ground floor. ShockHmm

Giggorata · 06/05/2020 00:37

I wasn't blown away by either of the designs this week, nor the final reveal. But by the sounds of it, loads of the budget went on structural remedial work, like damp proofing, plumbing and rewiring.

Justwannabe1 · 06/05/2020 01:02

Watched this program and any other tv make over/ property program from the start and this one was particularly shit.

The lady was a self proclaimed perfectionist with a house full of junk? 😕 The man had no input.

That red vestibule what a waste of space.

I was surprised they picked Laura’s. I don’t think the end result was particularly nice but they changed so much so to me it wasn’t really like the design placed in front of them.

I think Laura must have been disappointed and found them hard to work with. It all seemed too much of a mish mash especially that staircase it needed painting to match into the hallway it was so 1990s.

Keep watching every week to see if Robert will pop a good old sofa into the design.... of a cuddle seat 😂😂

I love the programme. X

BruceAndNosh · 06/05/2020 05:42

It's interesting, they usually film the final reveal to give the impression that the architect hasn't seen the house since the initial VR plan, but this week it was clear that Laura had had plenty of ongoing input during the build (and I suspect quite a few headbutting sessions)
She was obviously disappointed in the staircase - hers was stunning but the lack of bannister was daft. However I think the finished stairs still had the tapered tread to produce a curve, which again is not ideal for someone with limited mobility. We had stairs like that in a previous house and I used to slip coming down at least once a month.

Ulysses · 06/05/2020 06:27

Poor Robert wandering about his large kitchen and struggling with the stairs, waiting for bank holiday weekends to justify the reno.

They really just knocked down a wall and put in a kitchen that they could have got from B and Q.

MrsJamin · 06/05/2020 07:44

This week's was awful, two bad designs that didn't cater for mobility issues. So many WTF moments like the bench seating, narrow staircase with no handrail, and the aesthetic of the designs were pretty awful too, that front room of Laura's was so dull, I'm not surprised the client said she hated it, but the clients made it look even worse with a hotpotch of stuff that looked like it should be in a charity shop. They made a pigs ear of Laura's design too with the tiny dining table. It looked like when you buy a house and move your furniture in and it just doesn't suit the new spaces or match at all. I guess they ran out of money by the time it came to furniture.

cushioncovers · 06/05/2020 07:53

Ulysses. I Agree it was so unsuitable for him. She was definitely in charge. They seemed a strange match as a couple.

Also where the heck did all their clutter go?

MrsJamin · 06/05/2020 07:58

I felt so sorry for him saying he was alone in that house five days a week, he didn't look at home at ALL. Sad

BruceAndNosh · 06/05/2020 08:15

We discussed last week whether the production team "dress" the houses for the reveal, they definitely didn't for this one. The dining table looked lost in the space
The overall effect was very bland, I suspect because the couple couldn't agree so opted for something safe.

Brillig · 06/05/2020 08:18

Agree, MrsJ, I definitely got the feeling the husband would have leapt at the cosy flatlet upstairs with the lift and wood-burning stove and panoramic views (and did it have a kitchenette-type arrangement?).

He'd have been in heaven!

Yes it was an odd dynamic this week for sure.

Maybe they had a garden shed to store all their junk.

Brillig I agree. Provided there was a loo up there as well and not just a shower room.

I was surprised by Laura's lack of practicality with her beautiful staircase. And it was beautiful but the narrow tread on parts of it !!! The man had mobility issues fgs. Laura usually listens to the brief.
I loved Laura's hall with the mahogany/ walnut table and the amazing pop of pink/lilac flowers with the navy.

peachypetite · 06/05/2020 08:35

I’m really shocked they went with Laura this week. I thought Robert’s was way better designed for the mobility issues with a downstairs toilet and the lift.

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/05/2020 08:39

Also where the heck did all their clutter go?

I got the feeling that they had moved it all into storage. He talked about getting all his stuff back.

peachypetite · 06/05/2020 08:45

The snug still looks like an old fashioned b&b, no wow factor.

BruceAndNosh · 06/05/2020 08:53

I honestly think they should have admitted that a three storey house was impractical and sold up to buy a bungalow. Wasn't there a wheelchair in some early shots?

peachypetite · 06/05/2020 08:56

Yeh I agree. To have spent all that money and not put in a downstairs toilet seems madness to me. That poor man will have to keep going upstairs.

We moved house a few years ago as I could no longer cope with our old stairs & we weren’t able to put in a stairlift. Priority for the new house was downstairs loo & being able to put either a lift or stairlift in the new one.

Fudgewhizz · 06/05/2020 09:08

I think both plans missed the mark this week, though I did kind of like the end result hallway. Do wonder where all their guests will sit and relax when they come over though. I liked Robert's top floor room thing though kitchenette was a bit pointless and the red vestibule was an ugly waste of space, like something from Star Trek!

Fudgewhizz · 06/05/2020 09:09

And no downstairs loo in a house that size is bonkers! Perhaps there was one by the utility, which I'm assuming was between kitchen and snug, as in the plan?
