I never really liked the actress who plays Carolyn (could be from her treatment of poor orphan Harry 🤔), and it made me not really care for Carolyn. The scene in the car with the music and putting the pillow over her face made me catch my breath, she’s a fantastic actress.

CatAndHisKit · 28/05/2020 21:31

I didn't see Fiona Shaw in any film that I remembered so had no prejudice (makes sense for you, Lose) - I knew her face but couldn't remember specific roles. Recently there was a Maigret repeat and she played the fussy obsessive mother there- but that didn't suit her so much even though she was good. This role is made for her, couldnt imagine anyone doing it better (being actually exciting in it).

MontyBowJangles · 28/05/2020 22:18

I could imagine Judy Dench playing Carolyn. She has that dry and steely strong Brit thing down.

Randomly my 9yo started watching some shit 2002 film called Big Fat Liar on Netflix earlier. I was dozing but recognised the voice of a teacher character... It was Sandra Oh! Shock

Patch23042 · 29/05/2020 23:07

People on Twitter have been saying that if this period in time/covid is ever dramatised, Fiona Shaw would have to play professor Yvonne Doyle.

They’re very alike!

CatAndHisKit · 30/05/2020 01:50

Yes, Judy Dench would suit of course (having been in similar roles and having tfhat air of authority) but I think Fiona Shaw has more style about her and more mystery / hidden depths.

Patch haha they do look similar, though Fiona is much drier and has a great posture whereas Dr Doyle gesticulates and bends forward a lot - - but I imagine she could act as if.

IntermittentParps · 30/05/2020 11:12

I don't dislike Judi Dench but I agree Fiona Shaw has more style and steeliness. She's just magnificent IMO.

CatAndHisKit · 30/05/2020 21:25

Intermittent - absolutely, and her face is strangely very expressive for someone so cool on the surface (subtly expressive) - Judy Dench tends to have more of a set expression but she is one of the best Brit actresses of course so it's not a criticism, just observation..

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/05/2020 07:44

Ah thanks @CatAndHisKit

I always remember Fiona Shaw in a television production of Sense And Sensibility many years ago, not a big part, but she had a little scene at a dinner party and she was so good it stayed with me.

redzebra10 · 31/05/2020 18:14

ive watched all 3 series and if im honest i have no idea what its about Grin i know vanilla is an assasin and eve is after her (i think) but thats it.
but i think both of them are brilliant so i keep watching

MumpsimusMaximus · 01/06/2020 10:37

Well that was a good one! Gagging for series 4 now!

selly24 · 01/06/2020 16:17

So was that The last episode of series 3??
We have to wait for series 4?....

motorcyclenumptiness · 01/06/2020 17:49

It was hardly worth Steve Pemberton turning up

EsmeShelby · 01/06/2020 17:51

Gosh that was disappointing. Whole series has been plotless terribly meandering.

Such a disappointment. I don't know if I will watch series 4.

selly24 · 01/06/2020 19:02

Agree Series three has been all over the place! I mean WTAF?! Are any of us holding our hope for clarity and at least a few decent outfits if not a cohesive plot?
Also I want to burn Eve‘s fur hooded anorak...

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 01/06/2020 19:27

It was hardly worth Steve Pemberton turning up
and what a waste of Alexandra Roach

MumpsimusMaximus · 01/06/2020 19:29

I’m very disappointed at the waste of Alexandra Roach too.

CashewNut11 · 01/06/2020 19:42

Convenient for K that Steve Pemberton won't be in S4.

It's almost back to a level playing field in a way. S4 could really be amazing or... go completely down the pan.

What will they do with Eve and Villanelle in S4? Any suggestions?

Could Niko become an assassin...?

But Carolyn made that final episode - which is only right really. She was fabulous. I enjoyed it, even if it was a bit like a Brian Rix farce/who-dunnit with just the one gun. Smile

Crinkle77 · 01/06/2020 19:45

I am also disappointed and agree there has been no plot line what do ever. Kenny's death reveal was also rubbish. No doubt I'll watch series 4 though Grin

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 01/06/2020 20:07

The problem is that Konstantin became likeable - had he not been, it could have been the greek tragedy You killed your own son without realising it twist. As Villanelle says, he isn't a killer. But why isn't he? Raymond the other handler was.

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 01/06/2020 20:09

And it took 8 episodes for Fangtastic to remember his secret cam?

Crinkle77 · 01/06/2020 21:18

I know Robux surely that's the first thing you'd remember.

lotusbell · 01/06/2020 22:36

That was a bit of a let down! Totally agree there was not much point in Paul or Rhian. It was mainly chaotic with all the moving around, Villanelle visiting Bitter Pill and the strange reappearance of Kenny's colleague/secret girlfriend. Read an interesting article and agree with quite a few points:

www.primetimer.com/features/the-highs-and-lows-of-killing-eve-s-third-season

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 02/06/2020 07:51

I liked that article lotus thank you. Agree with a lot of it... Bitter Pill was hard to swallow Wink. I thought the boss at first was meant to be a potential new love interest for Eve but no. Much of it was What's the point of them? If Exparo type, and the 12 are beyond mi6's grasp or in league, their involvement seems spurious. Unlikely to be able to splash a story and loyalty to a colleague who hadn't been there that long. How was Eve getting by financially?
I didn't like the Dasha character at all. I also thought Geraldine was a wet wuss and wish there had been a twist there to explain the shambolic characterisation.
The "he stepped back accidentally" denouement still seems weak. Even if Konstantin puts the embezzlement onto Paul and puts Cuba on hold, I am still perplexed as to why the 12 haven't offed him anyway and 'let him back into the fold' two series ago?
Villanelle could easily have been recruited into mi6 for more than assassinating people:language prowess, ability to infiltrate etc as shown when she played student/gf to Aaron in series 2. What did mi6 want with her in the first place... Did they not want her for insider info/knowledge of hits ahead of time/use her as a double agent?
If they have bigger fish to dry, what is the premise now? What was the the point?
It feels a bit like the Affair, great first idea but then extended for ratings so initial arc goes awry but pretends it was always planned as a four series arc etc
Hate it when shows jump the shark like that.

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 02/06/2020 08:02

fry, even

Eve annoys me now. She has a murderous instinct/enjoyed crushing Dasha/potentially Raymond. Still harks on about Nico despite her bicurious/fauxbian leanings... Seems to have forgotten about poor Bill altogether.
What was she meant to be, a bored midlife crisis woman, an underused mi5 minion, a wannabe assassin or assassin in a parallel universe if instincts are just followed. She now feels a thrill from the kill just as Villanelle's trajectory is now to step away from murder? Interesting in a quantum theory of insanity way but where can it all go from here? Bonnie and Clyde no, happy ever after no, bring down the 12 no, both work for mi6 unlikely.
I still think they could have ended series 3 with better payoffs all round.
