Yes @youngestisapsycho the woman at the pool told Dasha to drive a wedge between V & Eve.

selly24 · 11/05/2020 23:13

Episode 5 was a bit of a Segway and felt a bit cheated that the main threads of the story( in London) weren’t developed - but interesting and entertaining non the less! The festival was hilarious !

CatAndHisKit · 12/05/2020 00:12

selly I felt more than a bit cheated, was really looking forward to Carolyn getting her office back and cottoning on to what Konstantin is doing. And wanted to see how Eve was coping. But no, we had a WHOLE ep decoted to V's family...
Yesm it's kind of interesting to some extent, but they could have condensed that into half of the episode - it's really not important why V is what she is, the usual predicatable story, bad mother!

Crinke her father is dead. I'm surprised that much of the family is alive, cos K did say 'most of them' were dead. I wonder how did he die (unless I missed it).
Interestingly in the original book, it's nothing like that - her father was a gangster killed in gang wars (after teaching V how to fight etc), and she started out sort of in revenge for him. And it'd be better if they stuck to that imo - but no, had to be some convoluted story, and too long. But if you meant you don't think he's dead, that would mean he faked his death and disappeared same as V did, doubt it.

The thing I liked was Jodie in the end on the train, quite a range of silent emotions there.

Gemma2019 · 12/05/2020 00:47

I really enjoyed today's episode! A whole episode of just Villanelle really suits me as I am sick of Eve's character at the moment and it was all getting a bit repetitive. I'll be interested to see the aftermath of Nico's death next week though.

CatAndHisKit · 12/05/2020 01:09

I think Eve is a lot better in this series in terms of variety of expression (not so much last ep) but I really didn't want an ep without Carolyn.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 12/05/2020 01:15

I loved that episode, we've got another 3 to fill in the gaps with eve and Carolyn. Episode 5 was just shear brilliance though, and that ending with her emotional state on the train!

Crinkle77 · 12/05/2020 09:34

@CatAndHisKit he's either not dead or her father isn't who she thinks it is. That's what I was hoping for anyway.

binkyboinky · 12/05/2020 11:56

I liked ep5 though I agree that too long was spent on the 'surreality' of Russia and the village festival. The scenes with her mother were GOLD and I wish they were longer. I think her mother was a socio-/psychopath/control freak and got rid of her daughter because she couldn't control her. If anything V is probably even stronger than her mother and can't be manipulated the same way her brothers were. And the mother was in denial about her own true nature and only saw V's "darkness". That's what V wanted, some validation from her mother that she was like her, but she was rejected instead.

Sounds like she was also jealous of V's relationship with her father. Perhaps she was his favourite? I don't think he is Konstantin any more, because V seems to remember him!

Jodie's acting at the end of it was amazing though.Blush

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/05/2020 18:23

Enjoyed the episode because so far I don’t think there is much of a plot for the rest of the series, just killing off main characters for shock value. I thought the casting for V’s mum was perfect, they looked so alike.

AprilJune · 12/05/2020 18:31

Jodie is just the most incredible actress.

CatAndHisKit · 12/05/2020 20:11

MyName I did cay that the ending with her silent emotions was the thing I liked - great piece of acting.

Otherwise imo it was too drawn out and like an unrelated film, I thought they would intrique us with something in the last five minutes re London events...It was interesting but it's the only one I won't rewatch, apart from her on the train in the end. And I always rewatch as I really enjoy the detail and subtle humour, and a lot more happening, despite some being better than others.

CatAndHisKit · 12/05/2020 20:17

Crinkle I'd be surprised, but who knows (re her father).
But I think we are right suspecting the ' overseeing Carolyn' guy may be from the 12 as really, who else? Not K for sure, maybe one of the office guys are involved but less likely.

Sinister tbf all the four main characters are still alive! Niko esp ceased to be relevant when he left Eve, Kenny was important but kind of secondary.
I do think one or more of the main ones will be killed though (not Eve, ironically!). If this is the last series, I think V mayl be killed.

CatAndHisKit · 12/05/2020 20:18

*is involved

binkyboinky · 13/05/2020 09:08

There will be a season 4.

Crinkle77 · 13/05/2020 10:35

@CatAndHisKit or do they want us to think C's boss is a baddie. Could be a double bluff.

CashewNut11 · 13/05/2020 23:28

I was hoping there wouldn't be a season 4. I was envisaging some mass, hysterical (in all meanings) bloodbath, a kind of female spy version of a Western shoot out...

But now it's going to continue I think I'll change my perspective to be more the 'journey' than the 'destination' Hmm. Anyway, this seems to be how the production team operate: watching an Edinburgh festival interview (I think) with producers, directors...and 'Carolyn!' they talk about tweaking characters and scenes to kind of suit the mood - reminded me of Twin Peaks the way they were talking Grin

I can cope with that. ...and there'll always be the bus scene. And on that note, could anyone imagine that scene being filmed with male and female characters and it being as sensational?

And, is Niko dead?

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 02:09

Interesting to catch up with this thread

I thought episode 5 was terrible

I ended up googling the story to see if it was worth continuing, then I forwarded to the last ten minutes.

The series so far has done exactly what I didn’t want - people’s past, family shit.

I think, more than I did, they should probably have left it at season 2 with Eve and Villanelle becoming Bonnie and Clyde. Though ironically, if they’d done that, I’d like to have seen their adventures as a duo!

Generally I have found this season far too slow, though I did enjoy the bus, the bus cake, the teddy bear.

Crinkle77 · 14/05/2020 14:05

@CashewNut11 I also wondered if Nico could be alive. Perhaps she missed a vital artery?

CatAndHisKit · 14/05/2020 21:39

Rest assured, Niko is dead. She's gone right through his neck and D knows how to kill. I thought we'd never see NIko since he pissed off to Poland, but they came up with Dasha angle.
I don't think it will work the way Dasha wanted to - she may not know that V has soared Niko before, so would make no sense to Eve to believe it was V herself - and is she suyppose to think that V just hides herself after the kill? V just 'reconnected' with Eve so it would look very weird.

Crinkle yes could be double bluff, but I can't see who else. Could even suspect Carolyn herself if it wasn't for Kenny's death. And it makes sense that SOMEONE we know is from the 12.

Lilac I so didn't want family shit either. CAn't see what's the point to go into such detail about it if they must go there. Don't want K's daughter involved either. Or Carolyn's daughter though at least she's relevant in tens of Konstantin. You can just tell it was a woman's writer in series 3 (sorry) - Waller-Bridge wouldn't do it but a more conventional womaan writer would. But it's ok if she indulged herself now and will get back to more action - hopefully.

CatAndHisKit · 14/05/2020 21:41

binky wow so there's series 4 coming! Well that explains why they could afford the long sideways discourses like ep 5!
Im pleased though - like all the actors and would miss them, but it will be tough to keep it going as a thriller.

CatAndHisKit · 14/05/2020 21:44

*a woman writer
sorry for all the ridiculous typos!

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 21:49

Cat I think it’s a pattern with tv shows that get this far, they think they’ll go for personal history. I don’t think the sex of the writer is relevant.

I found the scenes of Villanelle’s family to be cringemaking.

If they had to do it, it could have been done better?

It reminded me of that show Escape at Dannemora, in terms of how badly timed the history episode was. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

Only the last few minutes felt like I was watching the right show.

I also think D would finish Nico properly.

Coronahola · 14/05/2020 21:52

Im just going to throw this out there but I think Constantine could be her real father. Or maybe I'm totally wrong but sometimes I feel like he cares for her and also finds her highly annoying kind of like a family bond.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 23:07

No, I think Konstantin is Kenny’s father.

But they are clearly making a shit show of this now. The whole series is mostly padding.

CatAndHisKit · 15/05/2020 00:31

Lilac yes there was a lot of cringworthy moments there, also I like the show for its great main characters, whereas these characters were interesting for a bit, but not enjoyable to watch iykwim. And yes, it was like a totaly separate film/show apart from the last minutes. Vilanelle also was too different from her usual self during a lot of it, noone can switch that much in one day.

Corona well friends care and can annoy each other too. He openly said he cared about V so it's no secret. Also I really can't see him as a husband or lover of the mum character, now we've seen her.
Lilac I think if he's Kenny's father he didn't know - he's being told by the 12 to spy on Carolyn re Kenny's death, and he's calmly doing that, plus he was very normal at K's funeral. If he is and Caorlyn tells him, that might be interesting as he may stop spying and will turn against the 12. That's too complicated though, so I think he's unlikely to be the father of either tbh.
Once V knows she's not being promoted (as she isn't!) she also might turn against the 12 - maybe they'll all team up. A long wait till Monday now.
