I loved it. Really fascinating and interesting to see inside the traditions and customs of Hasidic Jews.
It sent me down a rabbit hole googling questions afterwards.
The men’s hats are incredible.

They did in the second episode i think.
It was predictable for the family and husband because thats what the mum had done and it was confirmed later by the piano teacher.

peachypetite · 10/04/2020 09:07

Ah so the piano teacher grasses on her :(

twoseven · 10/04/2020 09:39

and A Touch Away

I've just discovered this today, watched 3 episodes this afternoon and waiting for the DC to go to bed to watch the last one. Absolutely fascinating, I agree that Yanky was also a victim of sorts, I have absolutely lived it, it definitely makes me want to do more research too.

TokyoSushi · 10/04/2020 17:36

**loved it

jewel1968 · 10/04/2020 17:56

Thanks twoseven . On my list

iwantavuvezela · 10/04/2020 23:05

Really loved this - hope they make a second series

peachypetite · 11/04/2020 08:35

It was so good!

I loved this a lot, particularly the scenes in Williamsburg. I remember when I was a child seeing Orthodox Jewish families in London and being fascinated by them (hope that does not sound offensive). I found myself pausing the programme all the time to Google things like the eruv and the tinfoil covering the entire kitchen to read about the meaning behind them.

I wished there had been more episodes so that they could have delved deeper into how Esty felt when she first arrived in Berlin. There were snippets of that but it would have been interesting to see it in more depth.

Almahart · 13/04/2020 15:23

Just finished this. Wow. Best thing I've seen on TV for years

Excellent TV, though the Berlin segments became increasingly far-fetched as the episodes progressed. I'm reading the book, which, as you'd expect, digs much deeper into the story. Fascinating, though harrowing in places.

Makeitgoaway · 15/04/2020 09:49

Ooh, I saw this and thought I'd find it interesting but then wondered how "real" it would be and if I might be misled.

How have the Jewish community responded? Do they think it's fair/realistic?

Becles · 15/04/2020 09:51

Stumbled across it on the weekend.

Loved it and kept googling things like eruv etc.

Ordered the book it was based on.

ihatethecold · 15/04/2020 16:01

I had to google the amazing hats the men wear.

I loved this too. I felt sorry for Yanky. He didn't know any better but he was trying to understand and I think he showed her a lot of love in the end.

Moishe on the other hand...

...is the hottest man I've seen for a long time.

showmethegin · 15/04/2020 17:01

SERIOUSLY. Check his Instagram. You won't regret it! 😂

mrsmuddlepies · 15/04/2020 17:12

It has been suggested that she has not always been honest

mrsmuddlepies · 15/04/2020 17:15

She did not leave her husband until her little boy was three. Then she lived in New York for a few years before moving to Berlin. I think there is some hostility because she moved her son out of reach of his father.
in Berlin she met the Director and worked with her to make Unorthodox
The book is a really good read and there is a follow up book, Exodus

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 15/04/2020 17:17

It was bloody brilliant!

ihatethecold · 15/04/2020 20:06

I see it’s getting noticed on Twitter now.
Some well knowns on there are saying how wonderful it is.

Mrsmuddlepies if you don’t believe her, try watching One of Us. It’s truly disturbing!

Lua · 16/04/2020 11:02

I also loved it!
Was a bit confused about Moishe's story though.... Why was he so happy at the end? Did he needed the money for something?I tought he needed to bring her back to get his life back?

peachy - the piano teacher confessed,I think
