DS plays things very close to his chest private but I think he's more affected than he lets on Sad

Re rationing of items, they were announcing in Waitrose yesterday that certain items were restricted to one, two or three for each person, depending on what the item was. But DH was speaking to a member of staff and was told that there is no such limit on alcohol Grin So, if that's all that's left on the shelves......Wink

magimedi · 21/03/2020 07:20

I've got at least 100 un read books on my kindle so should be OK. Mind you many of them are books I've always meant to read, like Middlemarch, so am not sure how that will go Grin.

Oddly enough my appetite has vanished & have lost a couple of pounds in the last week or so. Which is good as I could do with shedding about 2 stone!

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 07:52

magi my appetite seems to have gone as well - I’m sure it won’t last though - it does usually take a lot to put me off my food!

I’m reading the new Hilary Mantel book - that should take me a while. I can only read a few pages at a time and then my brain hurts - it is good though.

I’ve also seen on another thread that Mallory Towers is on iplayer - I used to love those books.

Hope everyone has a good weekend Smile

magimedi · 21/03/2020 07:58

I started the new Mantel & gave up at page 300 - just can't get into it atm & am reading much easier, take me away type thrillers/crime.

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 08:15

I’m enjoying it but have to really concentrate - I have another book on the side for light relief. I don’t seem to have been able to concentrate on much this week but now seem to be entering a new ‘normal’ phase

Raahh · 21/03/2020 08:31

I will know that things have got bad, if I get around to actually reading 'Ulysses' which was on my university course list 30 years ago (and I wrote an essay on! ) but I didn't actually read it properly. I am pretty sure no-one ever does! Grin.

I can't get on with Mantel. I tried.
I spent years reading and studying things I thought I should read . Nowadays, I'm just as happy reading DD2's Tom Gates collection.Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 08:37

Yes I know what you mean Raahh Grin -has anyone actually read Ulysses?

PrivateSpidey · 21/03/2020 09:16

Grin I read The Dubliners at university but that's as close as I got!

I can't concentrate on anything either at the mo. I've realised how much I appreciate just plain normality!

magi I've got that Paul Auster book you recommended ages ago on my Kindle - seems a good time to try and read it if I can get into it.

Have you started Mac's book Jane? I have read it but can't remember much about it now! Except his top 10 ideas for improving tennis or whatever it was!

The best tennis book I've read is Days of Grace, the Arthur Ashe autobiography. I might try and look up a few others. I've read André's and BB's. Any other recommendations?
Tennis

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 09:43

The main thing I remember about Andre’s book was about him being worried that his wig might fall off mid match Spidey Grin

Judy Murray had a book out - I’ve not read it but might be interesting. Can’t think of any others at the moment.

I get you on just appreciating plain normality. I think the reality is just hitting my DSs - they’re climbing the walls already (well one has just taken to his bed!).

Doesn’t look as if there’s any tennis on Eurosport today - they’re showing the skiing World Cup

magimedi · 21/03/2020 09:55

SILVER is 99p on kindle in this month's deals.

If you like a good thriller/crime story this is one of the best I've read in a long time - it's real take you away stuff & an easy read but well written The author's first book, Scrublands has the same characters (some) but you don't need to read it first to get on with Silver.

Set in Australia & better than The Dry, IMHO.

JaneJeffer · 21/03/2020 14:01

I typed out a post this morning but it disappeared.

I'm reading the very highbrow Why Mummy Drinks which is basically Mumsnet in diary form. I don't need to concentrate too hard. Here's an extract Shock

I gave up on Ulysses after about 20 pages. My own stream of consciousness is enough to deal with. I remember Molly Bloom's monologue being shown on tv years ago and DF mumbling something about it being unsuitable but I thought she was just being a very agreeable woman.

If I knew how to link it, I would.

Stan has made me smile again.

Look at his instagram or twitter.

Raahh · 21/03/2020 19:16

kazza Grin (I can't link either) but that is great-

Stan sharing a drink with a giant stuffed polar bear. Bear

plus hash tags suggesting he may be losing the plot.

Well, Stan, if you are, we love you for it. Grin.

Raahh · 21/03/2020 19:17

Stan

this might work.

Raahh · 21/03/2020 19:37

I am catching up on Bake off (before I watch the Voice, because I watch all the good stuff).

It is making me laugh. Richard Dreyfuss is cheering me up. In fact, his very presence is making me want to watch 'Close Encounters...' one of my very favourite films- and re-enact the mached potato bit (if it wouldn't be a waste of food in the current climate. Well, I could still eat it Grin).

Raahh · 21/03/2020 19:38

kazzaD66 · 21/03/2020 19:45

Well linked Raahh

Well, in tenuous sports news Grin Dh has been doing his bit to lift the morale of his football team. Each week, after the girls play a match, he does a comprehensive match report, so he has done one today based on the match they should have played- and linked a you tube video. It is very funny, and clever- but totally believable - one of the parents wrote back when she got it saying she didn't realise the match was on today, and her daughter would have liked to play. (she did then realise her mistake. Grin).

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 21:15

Stan GrinBear I still quite like the suggestive way he’s offering the red wine and lasagne (although I would probably snatch the hand off anyone offering me lasagne and red wine Grin)

That’s funny about your DH’s match report Raahh Smile

Fizzywinegum · 21/03/2020 21:31

I also like that he is wearing an apron with Stan le Magnifiquo on it Grin

On closer inspection I think my lasagne would be nicer than Stan’s - I would still take him up on the red wine though!

Fizzywinegum · 22/03/2020 11:58

Jane I just watched it Grin Think that’s what I might have to do with my hair!

What on earth are we all going to look like when we eventually emerge from our houses?

magimedi · 22/03/2020 12:04

I just trimmed the back of DH's hair after his shower this morning - little & often is what my hairdresser (who is a good friend) told me. I think I'm going to grow mine - I've had abit of a hankering to have it longer for a while.

JaneJeffer · 22/03/2020 12:05

I'm thinking victory rolls.
