What is it with current look for scrappy, straggly beards, where there's a bit more beard under the chin and jawline but not much on the face and tache area. Both Thiem and Zverev have got it and hasn't Medvedev aswell?

Perhaps it's the in thing for the young men at the moment (says this old gal) but it makes them all look like Shaggy Confused
Have they left Scooby in the locker room? Hmm

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 17:36

Yes I'm with you there kazza. I like a good beard tbh - but not a straggly half-hearted effort, as you say.

Raahh · 31/01/2020 17:39

I've always said that Medvedev looks like Shaggy.

Real name Norville, or course Grin.

kazzaD66 · 31/01/2020 17:45

He does Raahh because he's so gangly and always seems to look a bit under the weather.
But I think Sascha is running him a very close second at the moment Grin

Mama1980 · 31/01/2020 18:09

Found you all :)
I hope the hospital went well raahh
Disappointed that Dom won today but will have to support him in the final now.

Raahh · 31/01/2020 18:14

Mama it was ok- despite waiting over an hour and being the last in the clinic, to be told (in 30 seconds) what I was told in December. Keith the kidney stone has gone, and Kevin is still there- or vice versa Grin. The position of the remaining stone means it's no likely to be an issue- and isn't going anywhere.

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 18:39

Hi mama glad you found us - usually we link from the old thread but it was my fault as I was too busy waffling to notice I was up to the 1000th post!

Raahh that sounds annoying about the wait. Hope you're ok Flowers

Private Just seen what you wrote at the beginning of this thread.
inane witterings
Are you trying to give AC a run for his money? Grin

Raahh · 31/01/2020 19:30

SPidey I'm fine. I was just bored, and a bit irritated as it felt like a waste of everyone's time!

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 19:36

kazza most of my contributions are inane witterings, if only I got paid for them like AC Grin

Raahh glad you are ok.

I talk about urine posters and kidney stones.

I can't keep on topic ever.

I must BE AC Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 19:46

I notice the mixed final is on tomorrow after the women's final. Hope they show it on Eurosport.

Grin Glad that at least one of the pesky twins has gone Raahh

I’ve watched the highlights - it looked like a pretty good match. Both players did look like eighties throwbacks with their shirts and headbands - I’m also not a fan of the non- beards!

I think Thiem will stand a slightly better chance against Djok in the final than Zverev would have - he’s already been in two GS finals and I think Sascha might have been a bit overwhelmed being in his first GS final. I’m still not convinced that anyone can get past Robodjok though. Thiem can also get a bit wobbly serving a match out (if it gets that far)

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 19:53

Raahh Grin very suspicious IMO

JaneJeffer · 31/01/2020 19:56

Djok will also have seen Domi's nerves today.

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 20:00

Yes that's a good point Fizzy. At least Dom (hopefully) won't be too nervous.

They were like 80s throwbacks weren't they?! Domi was even rocking the 80s short shorts.

BGD2012 · 31/01/2020 20:45

I think Thiem has a better chance against Djok than Zverev too. He has a good record against him but Djok seems totally clicked in and knows he has to keep focused to get Feds records. This tournament does feel like a changing of the guard a bit, the younger dudes are starting to step up now.

kazzaD66 · 31/01/2020 20:51

Private and Raahh I'd listen to your inane witterings over those of the butterfly fancier any day Grin

Raahh · 31/01/2020 20:56

kazza Grin

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 21:06

I agree BGD, and also think it's that the big three don't all play well at the same time like they used to. They're a bit more patchy or prone to an "upset", so you end up with someone else in the final/semis. (Ok this has only actually happened the last two slams Grin)

I think Thiem will have a good crack at it on Sunday, and he has beaten Djok in a Slam before (admittedly not on the Rod Laver Arena where Djok I basically invincible).

Can it be a repeat of RG though?? Wonder if we could arrange some biased wind* Grin for Sunday to put Novak off?

*I was just remembering when the commentators were saying it was windier for Roger than for Rafa in their French Open SF last year and we were calling it "biased wind"?!? Grin

BGD2012 · 31/01/2020 21:23

PrivateSpidey. Yes Djok was bothered by the wind at The French and was very irritable about dust in his contacts. I think he may have won the three GS before and was going for the 4th again. He's not keen on it too hot either so maybe worth checking the weather forecast!

PrivateSpidey · 31/01/2020 21:32

Yes, didn't he literally walk off the court as soon as there was a hint of rain iirc! But it didn't work, obviously.

Hmm yes the heat, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be like by Sunday tbh.

BGD2012 · 31/01/2020 21:42

Oh yes I forgot he walked off lol.
