Lovely, but sad, article about Del Potro here:

www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2020/feb/16/juan-martin-del-potro-fights-through-surgery-to-retrieve-tennis-career

JaneJeffer · 17/02/2020 10:34

It must be so hard trying to cope with his injuries and wondering whether it's worth trying to make another comeback and risk even more problems.

PrivateSpidey · 17/02/2020 11:10

Thanks for the link magi. Good article. I still believe he will be back, but as you say Jane, it would be at the risk of injuring himself again... How does he keep going through it?

I just feel so sorry for him, he deserves so much better than this and as a Delpo fangirl, I feel sorry for myself as well Grin for all those other times I should have been able to enjoy watching him Sad

Come on Delpo!!

It is such a shame- he is one of the nicest blokes on the tour, and that is what makes it so very unfair that he has missed so much. Heartbreaking. I would love him to get another chance- it is getting late in his career, but he does have skills and experience that the younger players haven't got yet, so he could still have a chance.

Raahh · 17/02/2020 11:25

But yes, when do you decide enough is enough?

I think Murray will find himself in the same position.

PrivateSpidey · 17/02/2020 11:35

Yes, I think he (Murray) will too, and I think a massive advantage, as that article says, is their mental strength, not just in coming back from injuries but from so much experience of big matches etc. So I agree they have that advantage over younger players Raahh.

They just need to be out there on court to demonstrate it!!

Saw some clips from Kim Clijsters' match- she lost but it looked pretty competitive.

Not much else to chat about though, tennis-wise - unless I've missed anything exciting?

Is Rafa still on his yacht? Envy

Private a lot is being made of the 16 year old Alcarez winning a match, and comparisons being made to various players. It's always a danger when this happens- what if he doesn't win anything again?

I'm glad Kim was able to play, and hope she continues.

Be interesting next week- Rafa in action in Acapulco, Djok and Fed are both in Dubai. I think it's the first time in a few years they have both played.

Fizzywinegum · 18/02/2020 18:32

Wish I was on Rafa’s yacht Envy

That was a really interesting article about Delpo magi - I just feel so sorry for him especially as his knee injury was a bit of a fluke injury. It must be so disheartening to keep having surgery and going through rehab and then wondering if your body is going to hold up Sad.

The Andy Murray documentary also showed how hard he worked on his rehab and it could all be for nothing - hopefully not but you do wonder how much more his and Delpo’s bodies can go through Sad

Anyway looking forward to seeing Rafa in Acapulco - is that the one with the pineapple trophy and sombreros or did I just make that up? Grin

Happy belated birthday to Mac - he’s looking good for 61!

I’ve just been to see Emma - I enjoyed it but I do like a good period drama Smile

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2020 22:09

Was it good Fizzy? I thought the Gwyneth Paltrow one was disappointing compared to the book. The trailer for this one looks good, well the Miranda bit. I didn't like her programme but I enjoyed her snogging Goran Grin

Love that Jane Grin

I want to see Emma as well. Was it good Fizzy? If it's still on after half term I'll go - I also want to see David Copperfield but instead I get dragged to Spies in Disguise and Dr Doolittle Hmm (to be fair, Spies in Disguise wasn't bad).

I've just been reading about Alcarez Raahh. And that Tennis TV was comparing him to Rafa at 16 Hmm no pressure then.

He was only born in 2003!! The year Fed won his first Wimbledon iirc. People born then have no business winning matches on the ATP tour! I mean, I think of 2003 as "fairly recently" Grin

magimedi · 19/02/2020 09:04

I think of 1993 as fairly recently!!

I will admit that Stan's backhand is a thing of joy & beauty.

(Am feeling nice this morning Grin )

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2020 09:37

DS2 told me at New Years that 1990 is as far away as 2050. I nearly cried!

Raahh · 19/02/2020 10:45

Jane I know! scary, isn't it! I was telling someone theother day that it is 30 years this year since I started university. I was shocked Grin. I'm not sure how that can even be possible. I remember 1990 like it was yesterday.

More recent years are a bit more hazy (I blame the dc for thatGrin).

magi have you jumped on the Be Kind Bandwagon? Grin

Raahh · 19/02/2020 11:33
Grin
Fizzywinegum · 19/02/2020 11:43

Grin Jane

I enjoyed Emma - Miranda was very good - I half expected her to say ‘such fun’ at one point Grin. I did actually like the Gwyneth Paltrow version although I usually find her quite annoying with her Goopness Grin

magimedi · 19/02/2020 11:43

Jane - Always been on it Grin

PrivateSpidey · 19/02/2020 11:55
Grin such fun I would be expecting that as well.

Me too magi Grin

Raahh · 20/02/2020 11:14

I've just read that Federer has had surgery and won't play until the grass season. I didn't think he would play the clay season again, not surprised there. I suppose missing IW/Miami is a blow to him though.

magimedi · 20/02/2020 13:05

I wonder if this is the begining of the end for him? I don't like him much - he's too smug - but I love watching him play.
