Surely someone must have. Grin

magimedi · 01/02/2020 17:20

team Thiem all the way here.

Just watched the highlights of the Kenin?Garbine final. Hadn't seen Kening play before - wow she is amazing & only 21!!

JaneJeffer · 01/02/2020 17:22

BGD that jacket was naff as was the cardigan. They can't compare him with Rafa or Delpo because he hasn't suffered the same type of injury in his career. He's been lucky in that regard but as you say he plays a very different kind of game. It's like those school attendance rewards - congratulations for being healthier than others.

PrivateSpidey · 01/02/2020 17:37

Exactly. So annoying!!

Fed plays a beautiful game but he was less than gracious when he lost to Djok and Del P at the US Open years back. Also the sobbing when Rafa beat him in the Aus final and got his career slam so young. He has brill PR.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 18:24

Oh, I agree, BGD. Delpo is a bit of thorn in his side- he got in bother playing him at Basel (?) a couple of year ago, smashed a racquet in the net iirc.

When he lost to Delpo at Indian Wells the other year -he said afterwards something along the lines of 'let him have his moment'. In other words, he won't win again.

There can be no 'lost in translation/Rafa-ese' excuses. He didn't like the fact the crowd were very much on Delpo's side.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 18:29

The sobbing at the Aus Open- well it was down to the fact he realised he had competition. A lot of his titles has been against a lot of lesser and Rafa wasn't that.

It is very unfortunate that Rafa's knee problems happened that year, and (after thrashing him in Rome) he lost to Soderling in RG. But his record against Fed there says a lot.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 18:30

lesser players

BGD2012 · 01/02/2020 18:44

Yes it was all about Rafa starting to dominate off the clay and becoming the top player. He was furious at losing to 'someone like that' (Djok) at the US Open and said it was down to a few lucky shots. Let's hope for a good match tomorrow, I think Thiem is going to break into the top 3 this week.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 18:48

BGD I really hope Thiem can make it a match. I want him to win, but I want him to make Djok work if he doesn't.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 18:49

Dom will be a top player (but can he let Rafa have RG this year? Grin )

PrivateSpidey · 01/02/2020 19:06

Ah yes the 2009 Aus Open/US Open finals. Wasn't that the "when I want to talk, I talk?" incident, after he said Delpo kept challenging late?! So salty Grin

Tbh I don't really mind a bit of attitude like that (up to a point), but it's more that he's lauded as this amazing sportsman etc and it's not always the case.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 19:09

He is not that great a sportsman. He gets away with a lot.

He was still racquet smashing against Delpo the other year in Basel. I think Juan really gets to him. Which makes his injuries eve nmore infuriating.

BGD2012 · 01/02/2020 19:33

Just read a news report and Djok has barely been seen (since the semi) and Goran and his other coach cancelled their press conference so they are clearly preparing for Thiem.

Raahh · 01/02/2020 19:37

ooh- maybe he is nervous.

He will still win

magimedi · 02/02/2020 07:46

Popping in to say:

Go Dom!! Tennis

Am not going to watch the feed from BBC this morning - want to watch the highlights without knowing the results (which I haven't done at all this year) so hope that will help!!! Grin

Mama1980 · 02/02/2020 08:13

Morning all, 😊
Far less nervous this morning without Rafa in the final hope - fingers crossed that Dom can at least challenge (and hopefully win!)

Raahh · 02/02/2020 08:32

Morning!

My biggest hope is it is NOT Frew commentatingGrin.

I didn't get much sleep, and feel a bit guilty about the thought of sitting here for 4 hours.

But come on Dom!

kazzaD66 · 02/02/2020 08:39

Morning all!
Well done to Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram for winning the men's doubles. Apparently, Joe will now move up to no4 in the rankings Smile

Raahh · 02/02/2020 08:40

Frew again. Angry We don't even get Mats for the Final. He always used to commentate. And Mac did too.

Raahh · 02/02/2020 08:41

Yes, well done to Joe- I hope he gets some recognition now!

Fizzywinegum · 02/02/2020 08:41

I’m also on Dom’s Thiem Grin

Everyone else in our house is still snoring so I don’t feel guilty about watching tennis - hope it’s a good one!

I agree with some of yesterday’s comments about Fed - he was such an amazing and graceful player - I’ve seen him at Wimbledon and his tennis was breathtaking.

I also agree that he is ok when things are going his way (and for most of the time they usually are!) but we see a different Fed when things don’t quite go to (his) plan

Oh dear - it’s Frew!

Fizzywinegum · 02/02/2020 08:50

Yes well done to Joe Salisbury - maybe the umpires will learn how to pronounce his name now (not sure how Mac would pronounce it!)

Raahh · 02/02/2020 08:52

Fizzy dread to think!

He ought to just stick to Joe Grin

Raahh · 02/02/2020 08:55

Can't have too many games like this!
