Is anyone else really excited about this?! Once baby is in bed, I'm binge-watching!

OP posts:
phlebasconsidered · 07/02/2020 16:50

Omg that was amazing! Crewed up and he said engage!
I cannot wait for the next one. That episode was pitch perfect.

Silvercatowner · 07/02/2020 20:08

Engage

*Shivers!

SurpriseSparDay · 07/02/2020 21:30

It did get quite scary in Episode 3.

Fun seeing Picard’s housekeepers swing into bodyguard mode.

I was never a great NG follower - so have probably missed crucial background info. Was all the interview gobbledygook basically about ancient religion?

Notthemessiah · 07/02/2020 22:52

Liking it a lot but cannot help but cringe uncontrollably when Raffi (think that's her name) calls him JL - it's just so wrong!

SurpriseSparDay · 07/02/2020 23:22

capitalism in space

Ah! DS9. Now, that was proper TV ...

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/02/2020 23:26

I’m going to say that I’m not really loving it. It just doesn’t feel Trek enough for me.

banivani · 08/02/2020 08:51

I agree it doesn’t feel trek. What is all this about money, weren’t they always saying that in the future Earth was peaceful, pollution free and money didn’t exist?

Now they’re just making the entire federation into USA mark 2.

So far this is not taking off properly for me.

That said I enjoyed Picard’s Romulans fighting a lot.

iklboo · 08/02/2020 08:52

I am SOOOOOO sad that as soon as Hugh was introduced I knew exactly who he was, his back story and his canon. I think DH might divorce me.

banivani · 08/02/2020 08:53

Which one was Hugh? The volume was too low for me yesterday, there were no subtitles and my husband kept telling me how bad it was during dialogue so I missed bits.

iklboo · 08/02/2020 10:14

Hugh was the former Borg who is Chief Director of the facility.

banivani · 08/02/2020 10:42

Was that Hugh??? God I didn’t recognise him and I missed the name. Feck. Must rewatch. Loved the NG episode!

SciFiScream · 08/02/2020 11:25

I don't like Raffi calling Picard JL either

I also know the whole Hugh backstory

The mythology about the Romulan past is new AFAIK (on tv anyway, it might be in the wider environment in books and graphic novels. I used to keep up but haven't for years)

phlebasconsidered · 08/02/2020 15:46

Ooh I loved the Hugh story. There's quite a backlog of rogue Borg in Trek. I recall Chakote found a planet of rebel Borg who were trying to break free in Voyager.

sweetkitty · 10/02/2020 12:49

JL - you can’t call him JL

I did squeal a bit when he said engage though. Wanted his Romulan bodyguards to go into space with him though.

Doobigetta · 10/02/2020 22:41

I’m afraid I’m starting to think this is a bit shit.
Apart from anything else, Picard is wrong and Starfleet is right- to allow even a tiny risk to actual real live people for the sake of developing artificial life is insane. And the whole “oh but they ARE real and just like us and if you refuse to play along you’re mean and evil and on the wrong side of history” is far too close to a real life parallel and is pissing me off.
And alcoholic pilot woman who should have been calling Picard “Admiral” or “Sir” not bloody JP is far too much of a flake and makes me think Starfleet has dropped it’s standards. Even Deanna Troi would be telling her to stop being so damned self-indulgent and stop making it all about her.
In short it’s badly in need of Seven of Nine but I can’t see her hanging around long when she does show up because they’ll all annoy her as much as they do me.
Sorry, I really wanted to like it.

MyuMe · 15/02/2020 16:58

I'm getting a bit pissed off with it.

How many careers ruined and people dead to aid the federations enemy who frankly wouldn't piss on earth if it was burning

SPOILERS!

Picard got his rescue convoy that destroyed by rogue synthetics and Mars colony also destroyed.

Then he quits in protest at the federation refusing to continue the rescue after the entire fleet of ships was destroyed.

For christ sake. They tried once, I think it was fair enough to call it off after nearly 100,000 people were killed in the synthetic attack.

MyuMe · 15/02/2020 17:00

I always thought Roddenberrys vision was an earth free from poverty, no one indulged in substance abuse anymore because in an episode of TNG that was stated.

Then looking at Picard you have Raffi living in a hovel and abusing drugs and alcohol.

They just had to change the vision and make it as flawed as our own world.

phlebasconsidered · 15/02/2020 20:21

I really like it. Why shouldn't a government lose its way? This is a Federation that is different - it's made choices that have led it astray and Picard does not fit. I find it believable, speaking as an older person who has watched many colleagues "managed out" when the goalposts change.

MyuMe · 15/02/2020 20:31

True but I just don't get the outrage at not helping the Romulans after the first attempt ended in tremendous loss of life.

I'm with star fleet on that. They tried and it resulted is Mars being destroyed and the rescue fleet. I wouldn't have tried again.

Picard left for that? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I can understand him leaving if the federation wouldn't even try. But they did.

SurpriseSparDay · 15/02/2020 20:41

Yesterday’s was a bit frustrating, they’re dragging things out rather.

But I do love the tech.

jackparlabane · 16/02/2020 00:18

Loved ep 4 - the bit with Elnor was oredictable but done well, and with him plus the spoiler given away in the opening credits, the eye candy quotient has gone up by 200%.

It feels a bit slow while it's on, but every time we've been surprised when it's over.

MyuMe · 16/02/2020 17:38

Now they're in space I am going to miss Laris.

The bad ass Romulan with an Irish accent

phlebasconsidered · 16/02/2020 20:30

I feel sure Laris will have a kick ass fight in the vinyard in the near future though! She's too good to waste!

Robin2323 · 16/02/2020 21:42

It's a bit slow but enjoying it.

banivani · 17/02/2020 11:47

Elnor was a bit too close to Elrond wasn't he. Esp since he lived in a tree house. It's a bit mad, isn't it?
