@HowIrresponsible@ You're absolutely right. They are not Data's children.
The premise of the story is that Picard discovers that biological synthetics created by Dr. Bruce Maddox based on Data's positronic brain, making Dahj and her twin sister Soji Data's daughters. That's the actual story premise. Those two are supposed to be Data's daughters and Picard has made it his mission to preserve the legacy of his old friend, Data.
Sutra seems so different from Dahj and Soji, so maybe Altan Inigo Soong (son of Data's creator Noonian Soong) made her from a template crated by Bruce Maddox. He must have made the other synths too because the one with the really weird eyes who first greeted them all on the planet sounded like she was from the North of England!!!
. Dr. Jurati has offered to help Soong develop an android body into which consciousness can be transferred

I don't care about all the other stuff, either. I just wish they had given Picard a new upgraded version of the Enterprise and a proper new team (still allowing for character development and quirks) and tasked them with a specific mission involving new bad-ass aliens or something. But this storyline feels slow, clunky and confusing.
Floating space orchids? REALLY? Suppose Season 2 will reveal why a Borg cube has somehow become revered as 'the Artifact'.
Wondering why they've made something obvious about the fact that Picard is dying - is it so that Soji or one of the higher advanced synths can heal him in a future episode? Or is this 'mission' supposed to be his great last hurrah as it were? One final heroic attempt to save lives, be they human or synth...
Another posted mentioned that there was a lot of acting in one of the episodes. I agree. Sometimes it feels like I'm watching a rehearsal of a play, with actions and mannerisms and dialogue all OTT and even flouncy at times.
I miss TNG
