Anyone watching?

The two youngsters had a maturity beyond their years.

The Latin dancers were a bit out of sync. Why didn’t the young lad start with the rest?

Didn’t see the first duo - cooking food.

DH seems to vote for the act that leaves every week!
I didn't think Vale were the weakest this week, but the competition is getting very tough now. M& J every week for me, they are just head and shoulders above the other acts

Noodlenosefraggle · 22/02/2020 21:30

I've really liked Vale up to this week. It wouldn't have been that difficult to add more waltz to their routine. It wasnt that distinctive.

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 22/02/2020 22:22

Maybe it's their age but J&M are professionals compared to the rest. They are the best dancers but they're not my favourite to watch. I'd rather see inexperienced dancers like Lily and Joseph grow.

I agree with the comments about ballroom not being featured enough.

BoD seemed a bit out of sync. I don't like tap dancing, Harrison was excellent though.

Hannah can move her body in incredible ways, but I don't enjoy her dances as much as the others.

64sNewName · 22/02/2020 23:44

Catching up. Can’t vote obv but my favourites tonight were Brothers of Dance (v entertaining), Dancepoint (wow! I would be delighted for them if they won) and Michael and Jowita (the energy and the tricks - bloody hell).

I really felt for Hannah actually; I didn’t love the choreography, but that was a big shift in style to have to pull off on your own. Oti’s point about Latin normally being danced in pairs seems important.

Truly had enough of Lily and Joseph now, and I’m underwhelmed by Harrison every week too even though I genuinely want to like his dances.

10YellowTulips · 23/02/2020 00:06

At this point in the competition you've got to be on top of your game every week and Vale just didn't have enough ballroom in their routine so I think they deserved to go. Not sure how come Oti didn't spot the flaw and make them incorporate more?
I loved the whole concept of fusion week (I don't remember this from last year?) and especially liked BoD, M&J and DancePoint. I think Hannah is starting to struggle but let's see how things go next week.

YouGoTeIIDrDreDat · 23/02/2020 02:15

1 Harrison Vaughan "Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing)" Tap
94.8% Isn't doing it for me personally and I like tap. I bet the rejected tapdancer from the auditions is thinking boo moo

2 Vale "Soon We'll Be Found" Ballroom
87.0% Curse of the death slot and weird teddy bear girl. Not memorable and costuming not great. Now had they done a group Viennese to Caribbean Blue wearing blue and hanky ties, now we're talking

3 Lily & Joseph "You Can't Stop the Beat" Rock'n'Roll
95.6% Good try but a bit cutesy now. Babywarz

4 Hannah Martin "Havana" Latin
81.3% Better with the two men but lucky to have got though

5 Brothers of Dance "Don't Start Now" Commercial
96.2% benefited from following Hannah and I thought the track was fine and Matthew seemed a bit grouchy

6 Dancepoint "Swan Lake" Ballet
90.9% Ballet's not my bag but it was well executed

7 Michael & Jowita "Your Disco Needs You"/"You Should Be Dancing"/"Le Freak"/"Boogie Wonderland" Disco
90.5% Consistently good. Have not had a bad week yet imo. That catsuit, those lifts. Amazing

Figgygal · 23/02/2020 07:54

Watching it now overarching thought so far is what on Earth is Cheryl wearing? Oti looks fierce in her mini dress and boots and Cheryl looks like your mum dressed up at an ABBA tribute gig

SoupDragon · 23/02/2020 08:39

And to do it in heels. I voted for her as I think she had by far the most difficult challenge.

iklboo · 23/02/2020 13:53

We could barely hear Harrison's tap over the stupidly loud whooping & screaming audience.

Noodlenosefraggle · 23/02/2020 14:07

That drives me mad. The audience do it on strictly too, during the show dances. Just bloody watch the performance, not whoop and clap so no one can hear the music!

Ellmau · 23/02/2020 14:45

Commercial v Contemporary - not quite sure what the difference is

I think Contemporary is more arty/something you would pay to see on its own and Commercial more sexy/music video backing dancer type of thing.

Only Harrison and Dancepoint managed to dance differently to their usual styles. All the rest had significant elements of their usual styles,

And they both mentioned some training in the new style.

I actually enjoyed Hannah and Harrison this week. M&J are clearly the best dancers. L&J adorable but understandably not as strong as older competitors. BoD really boring this week.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2020 15:02

Yes, both Harrison and Dancepoint were up front about tap/ballet experience. The ballet was more of a "cheat" as I think some of them actually do some ballet now.

YouGoTeIIDrDreDat · 23/02/2020 15:15

And to do it in heels
I hadn't thought of that soup Fair point

snappycamper · 23/02/2020 21:04

This is how I feel too.** I think it was such a shame that Vale went yesterday, it really should have been L&J

iklboo · 23/02/2020 21:42

L&J are lovely little kids with nascent talent. But they shouldn't keep getting through on the 'awwww' vote which they are at the minute. I said it before - the comp should be 16+ with a junior version.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 23/02/2020 22:31

Day late catching up! Hannah had poorest performance but toughest challenge, to the point of being unfair.
I love Vale but they should have incorporated much more ballroom. Oti what were you thinking????
I thought L&J killed the rock and roll. And I’m not their biggest fan.
I also thought BoD did a great commercial. But I’m pretty sure all those guys do commercial classes , all serious dance students do.
Can’t wait for next week!! My favorite show!!!

Doryhunky · 23/02/2020 22:45

Went to the live show this weekend. We were told to clap along to the music, stand up, show our appreciation etc.

OBface · 23/02/2020 23:27

Massive difference between commercial and contemporary dance (though concede that on TGD neither is shown in its purest form).

Although I didn't really enjoy her performance, I did feel sorry for Hannah and Vale this week - all other acts have a grounding in the style they were given so were at an advantage (Dancepoint are highly trained in ballet and Harrison will have learnt tap for many years even if it's not his dominant form now). As a PP says most serious dancers will have training in ballet, jazz, contemporary and commercial/street so only those given ballroom/latin will struggle.

Happy to see Lily and Joseph go next. I think Lily benefits from looking much younger than her 11 years.

Noodlenosefraggle · 24/02/2020 08:24

I dont think you can do pointe work without a few years of ballet training can you? The girl did it all the way through as did the boy for most of it. It was a bit annoying that they keep gravitating towards him saying how amazing he was when the girl was so good.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2020 09:10

The gravitated towards him because they kept saying boys don't do point work I think.

Comefromaway · 24/02/2020 10:17

Lots of boys do pointe these days.

The pointe wasn't particularly good, he nearly went over a couple of times and what the girl did was basic but what I really like about Dancepoint is that their dancing and choreography is clean and age appropriate unlike Vale (with their no pain no gain ethos of over-training and unsafe practices.)

Comefromaway · 24/02/2020 10:22

My daughter likes Harrison but she might be biased as he partnered her at a ballet summer school a few years ago.

She really rates Brothers of Dance.

Oblomov20 · 24/02/2020 14:18

Dory, that is so cool!

twosoups1972 · 24/02/2020 14:57

I don’t get the fusion theme. It means a mix of 2 dance styles which means what in the competition? A mix of their usual style with the one they’ve been given??Confused
