Is anyone else planning to watch this six part series? I vaguely remembered the killings and on seeing this advertised have now lost hours to reading up about it online and have also downloaded a book about the case. I’m really looking forward to this one!

I hated her with a passion. To not say anything - except after he'd ended the relationship - and then cash in on the murders. A despicable person.

dottypotter · 14/02/2020 14:50

at least she did the right thing in the end.

SouthWestmom · 14/02/2020 17:35

To be fair if her story is true she jeopardised the entire case as they merrily burnt evidence and continued with the cremations.

She came out of it financially well off however it fell

Violetparis · 14/02/2020 17:42

Fascinating crime story but found the series really slow and boring. I usually love Stephen Graham but he ruined every scene he was in with his poor Welsh accent.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 14/02/2020 17:44

I think SG plays SG the more I see him - as does Nicola walker IMO.

LordOfTheWhys · 14/02/2020 18:19

SG seemed like a real mis-step both the way the character was written, how he played him and the appalling accent.

Mark Addy and his sidekick were great.

Freddie Fox was amazing. JB is such a difficult character but he always rang true. Whether chilling or charming, FF was brilliant.

I think it’s appalling that she has worked in a position of trust with children all her adult life.

DuckWillow · 14/02/2020 18:50

There’s very clear guidelines about work with children. My guess is that whatever happened in the past doesn’t affect her ability to be a good educator.

I always bought her an odd character though.

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/02/2020 20:26

My guess is that whatever happened in the past doesn’t affect her ability to be a good educator.

Maybe she is a good educator but her morals and judgement have been somewhat lacking at times.

JediJim · 14/02/2020 21:53

I just realised that Mark Addy ( who played Stan Jones) was in the Full Monty!..
I also wonder what JB did with his murder clothes.. presumably they were never found as this would key evidence..
I’d assumed he burnt them?

SouthWestmom · 14/02/2020 22:01

That is a really good point. We need timings - deaths, phone call and where it was made from (if known, or if just stated by JB) and how long it would take to dump clothes go home and call police from the last death.

JediJim · 14/02/2020 22:54

Makes me feel sad when I look at the picture of those two boys..

JudyCoolibar · 15/02/2020 00:33

When whatsis from Silent Witness popped up as the prosecutor, I was thinking he must feel he can't escape members of the Fox family.

Happygirl79 · 15/02/2020 00:38

After watching the final episode I felt deflated.
I had wasted hours of my life.
The series was stretched out far to long and should have been compressed into 4 episodes maximum
I was anxious to see the final episode and getting quite bored in the meantime

DuckWillow · 15/02/2020 04:05

@JediJim there’s various theories about clothes worn by JB but one is that he wore a wet suit so he would have no bloodied clothes or shoes.

A wet suit was found and the theory is he showered after the murders.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 15/02/2020 06:27

Happygirl people died & you felt you’d wasted hours of your life?

JudyCoolibar · 15/02/2020 07:21

What were you expecting, HappyGirl79? Some sort of big thrill ending? No-one forced you to turn the TV on.

SouthWestmom · 15/02/2020 07:23

Lots of reports in the media that viewers thought it was too long and drawn out. It's designed to entertain and inform so let's not jump on happygirl

CiderWithRosy · 15/02/2020 07:59

I didn't think it was too long and drawn out. I thought it was handled really well and the actors were excellent.

Fifteenthnamechange · 15/02/2020 08:13

@duck that's interesting. I hadn't heard about that.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 15/02/2020 09:32

I'd heard he used a wet suit but didn't know he wore it for the murders then showered in it to clean it.

So, JB's house was not forensically searched ?

(There's a well known case in New Zealand of a guy called Mark Lundy who murdered his wife and daughter at home but claimed an unknown person did it. He meticulously cleaned the murder scene but was convicted, acquitted then convicted again of the murders because of a tiny speck of his wife's brain matter on his shirt. He too gave an Oscar winning performance of the grieving husband and father when required.)

ChicChicChicChiclana · 15/02/2020 09:41

I thought it was excellent television. Beautifully shot, atmospheric, believable. Didn't seem to drag to me at all. I learned a lot I hadn't known about the case. If the tv script is an accurate portrayal of the police case then the policeman portayed by Mark Addy did an epic job in really difficult circumstances. And, it seems, prevented a terrible miscarriage of justice.

AlexaAmbidextra · 15/02/2020 12:06

I'd heard he used a wet suit but didn't know he wore it for the murders then showered in it to clean it.

Neither does anyone else. It’s supposition.

DuckWillow · 15/02/2020 14:16

Yes the wetsuit thing is a theory like so much else with this case.

All very horrible no matter what.

I’m as certain as I can be that he’s guilty but nobody around the case with the exception of Colin Caffell comes out of it all very well.

The family seemed odd
The girlfriend identified the bodies of two six year old children and didn’t say anything despite the fact JB had told her he’d arranged the murders.

mum2jakie · 15/02/2020 15:51

@Happygirl79

I agree this series was too long and drawn out. That isn't making any judgement about the actual offence or being disrespectful towards the victims, it's an observation about the dramatisation.
