Is anyone else planning to watch this six part series? I vaguely remembered the killings and on seeing this advertised have now lost hours to reading up about it online and have also downloaded a book about the case. I’m really looking forward to this one!

Bringing up an old thread as I've just watched this. I have one question, why was the father found with his pants down? This was never addessed and its bugging me!

While watching the Barrymore documentary I thought to myself that Essex Police have obviously learned nothing. 😦

Oh yes, I watched the Barrymore documentary. I didn't realise it was the same police force. The other people at that party have to know what went on. There was only eight people there.

Jane yes they really did. I was just reading the other thread about Michael Barrymore and the unsolved murder at his pool. Essex Police (also responsible for the White House Farm mess up) decided at that crime scene that it was an accident, and allowed, amongst other things, Barrymore's PA to come back to the house and remove evidence!

I found the dramatisation slow at first but as it went on i found the pace worked well to allow the horror and seriousness of the whole story to really sink in. I think we're used to fast paced tv all of the time and the decision to take this at a slower pace might have felt unfamiliar but was very effective.

I also thought Freddie Fox was an inspired choice to play Bamber. Such a great mixture of superficially charming and repellant.

I just watched The Crimes That Shook Britain episode on this (here if anyone wants to watch: which defends JB, and found to my surprise that one of my old neighbours was interviewed extensively for the programme. I didn't know he'd any connection with the case at all!

I thought it was a good length - they were able to go into lots of detail which I found very interesting, as it was a real life case.

It did not drag at all for me, and I looked forward to each episode every eek.

I agree this series was too long and drawn out. That isn't making any judgement about the actual offence or being disrespectful towards the victims, it's an observation about the dramatisation.

Yes the wetsuit thing is a theory like so much else with this case.

All very horrible no matter what.

The family seemed odd
The girlfriend identified the bodies of two six year old children and didn’t say anything despite the fact JB had told her he’d arranged the murders.

I thought it was excellent television. Beautifully shot, atmospheric, believable. Didn't seem to drag to me at all. I learned a lot I hadn't known about the case. If the tv script is an accurate portrayal of the police case then the policeman portayed by Mark Addy did an epic job in really difficult circumstances. And, it seems, prevented a terrible miscarriage of justice.

So, JB's house was not forensically searched ?

(There's a well known case in New Zealand of a guy called Mark Lundy who murdered his wife and daughter at home but claimed an unknown person did it. He meticulously cleaned the murder scene but was convicted, acquitted then convicted again of the murders because of a tiny speck of his wife's brain matter on his shirt. He too gave an Oscar winning performance of the grieving husband and father when required.)

@JediJim there’s various theories about clothes worn by JB but one is that he wore a wet suit so he would have no bloodied clothes or shoes.

A wet suit was found and the theory is he showered after the murders.

After watching the final episode I felt deflated.
I had wasted hours of my life.
The series was stretched out far to long and should have been compressed into 4 episodes maximum
I was anxious to see the final episode and getting quite bored in the meantime

When whatsis from Silent Witness popped up as the prosecutor, I was thinking he must feel he can't escape members of the Fox family.

That is a really good point. We need timings - deaths, phone call and where it was made from (if known, or if just stated by JB) and how long it would take to dump clothes go home and call police from the last death.

I just realised that Mark Addy ( who played Stan Jones) was in the Full Monty!..
I also wonder what JB did with his murder clothes.. presumably they were never found as this would key evidence..
I’d assumed he burnt them?
