Less teal this series, something of a red, white & blue theme instead. Anyone else notice that?

But did we clock the Doc's tealtastic kitchen cupboards?

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/01/2020 08:33

The doc's house is supposed to be very modern but it looks horribly cold and soulless to me.

Mrsjayy · 09/01/2020 09:20

Caught up last night thank godnesss it was back to it's normal self we can forget about the Christmas silliness. I really wanted the midwives to win those tights if onky Lucile had shown a bit of knee Grin

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 10:37

I also wonder if that’s how they’ll end the series- the demolition of Nonnatus house.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/01/2020 12:04

@WineOrGinOrBoth you could be onto something there. Series 10 and 11 have been commissioned which would nicely take us up to 1967 (and two years from 1965 when the notice was issued).

PlomBear · 12/01/2020 19:25

I would like to see one of the midwives get pregnant out of wedlock, it would be interesting.

In one of Jennifer Worth’s books, she mentioned that when she was a student nurse, one of her colleagues on a hospital ward got pregnant and found some drugs to make her lose the baby. She had to carry on working as she couldn’t tell anybody what was happening. That always stuck with me for some reason.

Tigresswoods · 12/01/2020 20:03

Mrs Buckle. Teal dressing gown.

Jellykat · 12/01/2020 20:23

The nit nurse.. argh! i remember them so well, the shame...

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2020 20:26

Modern hospital blanket. We use those!

And the pill was given to the prostitute in the nursing home from one of those modern paper pill cups. They would have used something non-disposable in the sixties - perhaps metal or glass? In the eighties they used plastic washable little cups.

Pebble21uk · 12/01/2020 21:02

And the trailer for next week: 'I'm early... I'm ready... I'm dirty' - sounds like a different show altogether!

NumbersStation · 12/01/2020 21:09

At least it wasn’t out of a nun’s mouth Grin

I can’t help but love Phyllis. I would dearly love if I was more like her but I am Malcolm Tucker in frillies.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2020 21:25

@fredafrogspawn. We used reusable plastic cups until only a couple of years ago. I qualified 16 years ago and as a student we still used re useable bedpans and bowls etc.

My grandad had a heart attack in the 1960's and that is not how my mum described a cardiac ward. She still hates hospitals as the cardiac ward terrified her. There would have been no tris to the seaside. It would have been. Strict bed rest and no exertion at all.

There would have been no tris to the seaside. It would have been. Strict bed rest and no exertion at all. I think that's what he was saying, no trip to the seaside and he had to go and live with his daughter and retire from the Police.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/01/2020 22:20

I thought they were going to lose one of the rabbits (and I wasn't impressed that Dr Turner just abandoned it on the table when Tim phoned!).

I think the link with rubella was made in the early forties. I don't think we've had a case of that on CTM yet, perhaps we'll get one.

NumbersStation · 12/01/2020 22:23

I wasn’t impressed at a rabbit being left at height either.

But you knew there was going to be baby buns - there was almost a cheeky wink from the fluffy bunny.

Clawdy · 12/01/2020 22:51

I'm glad that blonde wig was explained, I was thinking how false it looked, and wondering why the producers had allowed it!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/01/2020 23:23

I'll tell you what I do miss — they used to have a song over the credits, a different one each week. More recently it's just the theme tune again.

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2020 23:30

Modern(ish) thermos too. When Phyllis and a the receptionist lady were drinking tea on the park bench the second time, the receptionist last had a green plastic thermos. We had one like that. It came from boots c,1983 it replaced an older one which probably was 1967 is, which was metal and tartan.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/01/2020 23:37

The odd mistake like that does seem to slip in — I'm sure Patsy and Delia sent a postcard from a country that didn't actually exist in that year!

Mrsjayy · 12/01/2020 23:43

My stepdad had a work flask like millicents (but it was orange) in 1979 he had it for work and he probably had it for years. Sorry just wanted to contribute tothe thermos debate 😂

Mrsjayy · 12/01/2020 23:45

1979ish* Ilove fred and Vi they are actually adorable.

Smithtylater · 13/01/2020 00:45

What was her explanation about the dodgy blonde wig...I missed it!

NumbersStation · 13/01/2020 01:25

So did I. I don’t think I heard anything to explain it - unless I coughed over it Confused
