Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

Just watched it again. Loved it. Ruth Jones’ acting when she confessed her live for Smithy... that flash of soft vulnerability in an outwardly «hard» character... beautiful.

DarwinianMinion · 26/12/2019 17:16

Love. Ffs why do I always miss the o?? 🤬

FabulouslyFab · 26/12/2019 18:38

And that they referred to Pete’s mum - they put flowers on her grave ❤️

ConfCall · 26/12/2019 19:51

Yes, it was lovely that they acknowledged Margaret John and Edna Dore.

James Corden and Ruth Jones spent Christmas together with their families, and watched it. They’re genuinely close mates it seems. And a very good writing partnership!

QueenofmyPrinces · 26/12/2019 20:35

Just watched it for the second time.

I love how cute Neil the Baby was Grin

Gavin has not aged well.

Why was Bryn being mean to Gwen?!

You can definitely tell that JC is an A Lister now, he just wasn’t able to pull off the Smithy character in the way he used to. He’s looking good though with his weight loss and a tan Grin

I love Pam!!!

I used to really dislike Stacey but I didn’t mind her at all in this episode and I liked the scene she did with Gavin when she was talking to him about keeping their flame burning etc. I think a lot of married couples with young children would really identify with how she was feeling.

I loved Ness and Baby Neil going carol singing!!!! I love the fact he had a tea-towel on his head and a stuffed toy sheep under his arm Grin

It must be hard to be a multi millionaire chat show host and have met people such as Michelle Obama then come back to filming in Barry Island ( nothing wrong with Barry but it's hardly L A) it must feel a bit surreal however down to earth you are! I'm not knocking him or any of them , his done really well, but it must make life a bit odd at times!! ( i will never know of course! )
It must change you as a person.

MadeForThis · 26/12/2019 22:25

Loved it. Praying for a new series.

StraightenUpAndFryRight · 26/12/2019 22:53

There’s a behind the scenes on YouTube that was on BBC Breakfast and you see James and Ruth taking selfies with fans during filming in Barry. Ruth does Nessa then which must be quite handy if people come up to her on a bad day as she can be a bit rude but get away with it as it’s Nessa.

Yes! Check out the last Graham Norton. They did a great interview where she said how as RJ she's v quiet and polite but when she puts on Ness she gets what she wants.

Loved “he’s ruined the good name of Peter Sutcliffe”!

James Corden’s been doing that sports quiz show on Sky until recently so I assume he spent loads of time in the UK over the years.

I enjoyed it but there was a little too much in it to feel as natural as the originals. I can see why that happened. I would have sacrificed some of the Gavin and Stacey on the island scene to make the rest of it flow a bit better I think.

But loads of lovely bits and we need to watch it again. We watched the old Christmas special last week for about the 50th time and noticed a joke we’d never heard before.

The only bit I really disliked was the fishing trip moment. It felt really overplayed and in there for the sake of it.

ritatherockfairy · 27/12/2019 09:44

"he's ruined the good name of Peter Sutcliffe"

It was only when DH and I were watching the previous series on catch up that I realised the families are all named after serial killers. Can't believe I missed that first time around Grin

Spidey66 · 27/12/2019 10:35

I thought the kids names were somehow related to royalty, well Harry and Meg(h)an anyway, though not Caitlyn (maybe Caitlyn Jenner).

Squigean · 27/12/2019 10:40

Same here ritatherockfairy, not that but i only cottoned onto Shipmans.

I feel my knowledge of serial killers is lacking!!

Dipsydoodle · 27/12/2019 10:42

If you watch the original series again, Doris comments on it at their wedding. Something along the lines of it being unfortunate Stacey has spent years dreaming of being free of the surname West only to marry into the Shipmans. Her companion says something about it being six of one and half a dozen of the other and she replies 'It wasn't six, it was hundreds of them!' Grin

Dipsydoodle · 27/12/2019 10:45

And Caitlin -Cait - Kate.

Squigean · 27/12/2019 11:24

Well that comment evidently passed me by completely!!

RuffleCrow · 27/12/2019 11:35

My little terraced house also has steps down to the kitchen. So did the one I grew up in! Honestly, only on MN would someone question something that's so incredibly commonplace in victorian-era working class homes!

Dipsydoodle · 27/12/2019 11:35

Sounds like a reason to go watch them all again! Grin

diddl · 27/12/2019 14:59

I'm watching series 1 again & Smithy has a silly voice when talking on the phone to Lucy, doesn't he?

'She collects them. Them and Sylvanian Families' Grin

diddl · 27/12/2019 16:35

I didn't like it much when it first came out.

Really enjoying it now though.

Just watched the wedding-loved Pam's outfit.

Spacebowlisback · 27/12/2019 16:47

Ah I loved it! Pretty sure Ruth Jones does most of the leg-work with the writing. Wonder if they wrote in Smithy’s attempts at posh to counter the US affect.

Gwen looks amazing!

drivingtofrance · 27/12/2019 18:01

I just watched it tfoay.

Loved it. Very funny in a lot of places.

I didn't expect that cliffhanger though. I do hope there is another episode or series lined up..
