Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

I've watched it for the second time today and enjoyed it more.

Mainly because my ILs weren't sagging it off in the background, loudly, all the way through 😒🙄

QueenOfTheFae · 27/12/2019 19:48

@BikeRunSki
Ruth Jones explains thinking behind G&S’s kids names.

Did it need explaining though? I mean, Harri, Megan and Caitlin ( or Harry, Megan and Kate?)

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2019 20:12

@QueenOfTheFae Not really, I was just confirming the speculation.

Spacebowlisback · 27/12/2019 20:14

My favourite line:

Stace: I got hot. What did you get?
Gav: Hot.
Stace: Aw, amazing!

KimchiLaLa · 27/12/2019 20:19

I enjoyed it but there was a little too much in it to feel as natural as the originals. I can see why that happened. I would have sacrificed some of the Gavin and Stacey on the island scene to make the rest of it flow a bit better I think.

Pretty sure that's likely the scene Ruth Jones said was the scene that made it all click for her and Corden, because before that they weren't going to do it as it just wasn't working out.

IfNot · 27/12/2019 20:34

The Gavin and Stacey bits, with her going "how do I look?" and him going "yeah fine babe", without even looking at her, were the most honest and true parts of the whole thing. Her worry over losing their spark felt really poignant.
Love Pamela, Gwen and Bryn as always. Dawn looks like a spitting image puppet she's had that much surgery, which is a shame as she was a beautiful woman.

Smithy is just too shiny and Hollywood to be believable and no WAY do I think Nessa would propose to Smithy!
Neil the baby was great though.

Yes, I thought the same myself when I read that article.

I didn’t blink at Dawn because she’s not been off our TV screen and that’s what Julia Davies looks like! Shamefully maybe I’m unable to tell whether she’s had work as I’m used to her face.

The bit where Gavin didn’t even look up caused me to jab my husband in the ribs meaningfully.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/12/2019 21:01

I loved it. But I do unfortunately think james Corden is too Hollywood now. He’s lost the dodgy smithy swagger and little mannerisms like touching, wiping his nose, sniffing and looking a bit grubby. Of he had smartened up a bit, he’d have got a newer car. Especially for the golf club.

frugalkitty · 27/12/2019 21:08

The kitchen in our first house was a step down from the dining room, no hills, just how it was built back in 1910. I loved seeing that in the show, I'm rather nostalgic about our first house!

Doubleraspberry · 27/12/2019 21:16

Gavin’s hair is surely dyed too. It looked very odd.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/12/2019 21:21

Avid fan from the start here, and that cliffhanger blew me away.

diddl · 27/12/2019 21:22

I also didn't think that the proposal rang true.

I mean they've had 12(?) yrs!

Spacebowlisback · 27/12/2019 21:32

Yeah @diddl but she knew that he was going to ask Sonia...

diddl · 27/12/2019 21:39

Yeah, I guess that's why I don't get it.

So she only realised that she loved him when he was about to propose to someone else?Hmm

I don't see why Sonia had to be in it at all tbh.

When they woke up together on Christmas morning & the son came in she could just have had a lightbulb moment then!

Would it really warrant another series though?

Spacebowlisback · 27/12/2019 21:45

You’re right. It wasn’t exactly threaded in. There could’ve been a better trigger moment.

Wrongdissection · 27/12/2019 22:41

They’ve had 10 years being Smithy and Ness and just doing their own thing that worked for them. No need to define it. They’ve always had each other. And now Smithy has this new woman. And Ness was happy for them if it made Smithy happy. But then she met her. And she saw that she was trying to change Smithy, and didn’t accept him for what he was And she knew she wasn’t going to make him happy. And that was the trigger.

For me it was perfect.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 27/12/2019 23:37

Loved it and was not expecting that cliffhanger! Wow!

diddl · 28/12/2019 07:11

"And she saw that she was trying to change Smithy, and didn’t accept him for what he was"

That's up to him though, & surely not up to Nessa to decide who makes him happy?

StreetwiseHercules · 28/12/2019 07:13

I thought this new episode didn’t shit the bed but it didn’t sparkle either.

Stacey remains the least likeable character, so at least it is consistent.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2019 09:16

Catching up slowly. Now on e5 s1

And yes I thought that @diddl about the phone call to gf and silly voice in s1

From what I gather Nessa and smithy shag every now and again Or does that change once pregAnd has baby Neil

And once Nessa reliesed he was going to propose and after their night together that she really did love him

And I new to this :)

lynsey91 · 28/12/2019 10:10

Me and DH didn't like it at all. Not funny in the slightest. Nessa was just annoying, the taps really stupid and her accent sounded different and strange.

We watched to the end without one laugh and then watched Paddington which we both found funny

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/12/2019 10:20

Yeah I didn't like the taps thing either. At least with the individual celebration chocs last one it made some sort of sense.

Its have been better if she just bought a box of Christmas crackers and handed one out each.

IfNot · 28/12/2019 10:26

Yeah the taps thing was a bit "look, look, it's still Nessa doing Nessa things". It was a bit desperate. It's been 10 years- I am expecting things and people to have changed. I think it's fine the Smithy is different, but I imagined him to have got more middle aged, more sort of weary, rather than more glam. I like that Ness lives with Bryn though, because that seems like it would have naturally happened.

Lulabellamozzarella · 28/12/2019 11:06

I agree about the taps. That was just weird. Nessa has some odd ideas about things but she isn’t stupid.

It was like Grawp giving Hermione the bicycle handlebar.
