Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

I loved that as characters in the first Christmas special they had a difficult time gelling on Christmas Day when G&S were first together but this time they were all so comfortable in each others presence - ( like stuff with the taps) which was so evident when nasty Sonia came in !

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 10:20

Aww I loved every second of it warmed me cockles it did I even liked Sonia she thought they were all batshit which of course they are Grin

Dozer · 26/12/2019 10:22

Really enjoyed it, we all had a good laugh watching it.

Neil the baby looked perfect for the role!

Felt the GF was much too unsympathetic a character. Cliched. Would’ve been better if she was genuinely nice with just one or two subtle things, eg Smithy acting different, feeling uncomfortable with the group. And not the fat club/gym things.

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 10:23

Raising a glass to Doris was just the best Nessa taking Gav and stace to court for her house !

1AngelicFruitCake · 26/12/2019 10:30

I loved it!
I thought Nessa, Pam, Gwen, Pete and Jason were most like their original characters.
Loved that they called Neil ‘Neil the baby’ still.
Think talking about where xmas puddings were or best services were are the little things that made it great in the first place.

Uncle Bryn was funny but I felt he was more reserved than before and also more angry at Gwen (poor Gwen!)
Gavin and Stacey - it was really strange getting used to them as parents of 3 but still like them (and Joanna Page is so pretty).

Biggest disappointments
Dawn and Pete’s part was too over the top and I wanted them to pop up again.
No Dave Coaches to go ‘How’s it going, alright?’

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 10:32

Dawn and Pete over egged it their trust tree though Grin

KimchiLaLa · 26/12/2019 10:32

Smithy was a bit too Hollywood for me but overall I enjoyed it. Shame as I like James Corden.

KimchiLaLa · 26/12/2019 10:40

Was the James Corden posh bit at the end a piss take of himself being a twat when he first when to Hollywood?

God I love this show though

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 10:44

I think the posh bit is how smithy acts down the golf club .

Emmapeeler1 · 26/12/2019 10:55

I absolutely loved it. Loved Nessa taking cards for carol singing and contesting Doris’s will Grin I also thought ‘fake’ Smithy was really well done and in keeping with his character hiding girlfriends he knows deep down aren’t a good match for him, and feeling like he needs to be something he isn’t.
I also enjoyed the references eg the updates on Chinese Alan et al.

Neil the Baby is my new favourite character though. His role was just lovely. Sonia was also good. Also love the way it bumbled along slightly pointlessly (in a good way) the whole way through to end on that massive cliffhanger - perfect. Though my favourite bit was Pam, Mick, Dawn and Pete stoned Smile

Only things missing were Dave Coaches and Sheridan Smith. And Doris of course but that couldn’t be helped!

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 10:58

Yes loved the lads catch up "Even budgie is a grandad"Shock

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2019 11:07

“Guess who was in Revolution... Chinese Alan’s kids, they were on the door”.

Loved that, it’s so much the type of thing that happens, and makes you realise how much time has passed and makes you feel really old.

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2019 11:13

We have a Revs near us! The youngsters love revs!

Dozer · 26/12/2019 11:17

Went to a v early branch of Revolution a lot in the late 90s, the After Eight vodka was good!

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2019 11:22

I did enjoy it all. They looked to having fun in the pub as I did on Friday night myself! A sing song and fairytale of New York for a big finish. Perfect.,
Uncle Bryn is a great character ' let the man speak ' It's very hard to dislike Ness at times! She has hidden depths and understands people!

Mrsjayy · 26/12/2019 11:28

And she loves smithy with all her heart , if you didn't well up a t that you have no soul .

TheToldYouSoDance · 26/12/2019 11:28

I must be a lone voice but thought it was awful. Zero chemistry and really forced. It might have worked better as a new series to get everyone gelling again.

ShristmasChopper · 26/12/2019 11:31

We absolutely loved it here. Glad I've got some new G&S to 're watch and research. It's all the subtle sub sub jokes I like. You can watch the same episode several times and see subtle jokes and something else new and funny.

I think they did a fab job. They had so much to live upto. Some people are over thinking it a bit I think. We've all changed in 10 years.so why wouldn't any of thier characters.
I really really hope they do a run of Xmas specials for us over the next couple of years.

Susiesoap7 · 26/12/2019 11:42

Thought it was brilliant, well worth waiting for!

CallmeAngelina · 26/12/2019 12:02

Did no one else notice the marvellous bit where Gwen came out of the bathroom, said she didn't realise anyone was waiting, then went back in and sprayed air freshener? Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/12/2019 12:05

We were LOL at that Grin

Pomegranatepompom · 26/12/2019 12:06

I loved that bit !!! Faces were hilarious.

thenightsky · 26/12/2019 12:12

I loved that bit with the air freshener too. Grin

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2019 12:14

The towel bit was also well done.
' that didn't go as planned did it pam' ?
I thought the weight watchers bit was a reference to J C being in 'Fat friends ' many moons ago as well!

reallychristmasaaagain · 26/12/2019 12:14

I loved the Gwen bathroom bit, and the towels debacle!! Loved it, and I reaaaaallly hope they make a few more. I did think they had 3 very well behaved kids, and plenty of time to sit around on their bums whilst the kids played on their own.
