Sorry if there’s already a thread on this but I couldn’t find one.

Anyone else excited about this? I’m really looking forward to it, especially after seeing the trailer yesterday! There were no kids in the trailer though (unless I missed them) so not sure what’s happened to Neil the baby and Stacey’s bump! Apparently Uncle Bryn is hosting Christmas this year....

Nessa is selfish, the taps as presents highlight this just as single Celebrations and sueing Doris's estate for the house she left to G and S.

Absolutely loved EVERYTHING about it. In our house Pete and Dawny had us howling.. especially the 'trust tree' and the Cyndi Laupa song. Real 'hide behind a cushion' cringe moment and completely in keeping with their relationship throughout the whole series.

If there was one tiny wee strange bit it was Uncle Bryn snapping at Gwen he is such a kind character and that seemed a bit off kilter but absolutely all the rest was spot on. Even G & S . They have always been the 'straight guys' (although S has also got laughs because of her slightly quirky ways) ..

Nessa has always been a poor character, a bit like Phoebe in friends. “Oh I’m zany me, out there, unusual”.

Not funny and boring. And zero character growth or development. Like being a parent hasn’t changed her in the slightest. Unrealistic.

In Gavin and Stacey, the good characters are Pam, Mike, Pete, Dawn, Bryn and Smithy.

Nessa is a great (as in complex, fascinating) character - monstrous in some ways but a woman who doesn't give a fuck about doing what she 'ought' to do. And she'll have got the taps from
Dick Powell. Smile

I think Ness should be shown as more complex but she did seem quite tender with her son.

Ness was good with Neil the baby I thought.
Trying to raise some cash to give to Smithy shows she does care and is trying her best to be self sufficient , even if it's a bit lopsided and not the 'norm. ' 😂
She is probably a good mum : tough but fair . She never did care much what people thought of her and I find that good as I wish I had been more like that in the past ( I'm only just getting like that now as I age)
She is an unusual character and an individual.

People always put down Gwen and Bryn snapping at her was an extension on this. Don't people remember Gwen making Nessa's wedding dress,she was awful to her ?

Why would Nessa have thought that Doris would leave the house to her?

Doris didn't like her did she?

Although not sure why she'd leave it to G&S either!

At he end of the 3rd series, hadn't Smithy moved to Barry?

There was a long running feud with Doris and Nessa ,I think one or the other owed the other one a fiver.

It's the long running thread through the whole thing that Nessa and Smithy are in love but can't admit it! People saying it's unrealistic after 12 years are talking shit. It's more realistic!

Has anyone done the maths to work out how old Nessa is? She says that in the picture of Stacey and Nessa that Stacey is 17 but I can’t remember how old Nessa said that made her.

I watched it this morning and loved it.
I thought the bit in the pub when they were discussing motorway service stations was hilarious.
Ive only seen a few of the original ones but it has made me want to. I'm not a fan of James Corden but the other characters were so strong it didn't matter and in fact I think he played Smithy beautifully. Loved the ending too.

Nessa's reference to being 35 I took as an in-joke in the series of jokes about her age. When Stacey is asked about her age she says something like 'I don't know, nobody knows, I'm not even sure Ness is 100%'. Stacey is 26 at the start so Ness would be 44 then when she got pregnant if that latest reference is accepted as true. But I see it as part of the moving picture that is Ness's life story.

I think Nessa is meant to be around the same age as Ruth Jones, who’s 53.

I don’t think Nessa is mean, she’s poor and a has had to be a bit of a grifter to get by. You can see that in the carol singing thing, she’s after money but not for it’s own ends, she wants to pay Smithy back. She probably got the taps in exchange for something else like giving someone a dodgy tattoo and thought they’d do for Christmas presents.
