Yeah she did with Alice and she married again I think. I'm going to bed now but i've enjoyed this nostaligic chat.

Oh, I just love mumsnet!

I think Brooky was my favourite TV show ever (as in my favourite by a long way for about ten years of my life).

I wouldn't answer the phone when it was on (so trailer I know, but...) and I still don't think I was wrong.

southeastastra · 24/08/2007 22:04

me too ledodgy, can't find much brookside info online, which is a shame.

I've enjoyed a good reminisce about it too . Thanks all!

elkiedee · 24/08/2007 23:07

I was completely hooked on Brookside until 1997. One weekend in March when I was feeling very very down I watched the omnibus as normal on Saturday and thought, this is even more depressing than my life right now, why am I doing it to myself? I went cold turkey. But I did watch the first and last episodes on Virgin on demand too.

Don't know the actress's name but the woman who played Margaret (nanny for posh couple? had lesbian kiss/affair with Beth Jordache) has appeared in lots of stuff including Clocking Off and a recent series The Chase which I haven't watched but caught some of the scenes with her in. And of course, Anna Friel who started her career as Beth has remained quite famous although the things she's appeared in haven't been consistently successful.

Dabbles · 24/08/2007 23:08

Has Mumsnet now, officailly, lost all credibility?

Easywriter · 24/08/2007 23:11

Dah-ling!

Viewers of Brookside were captivated under much the same ruling as Heats advetising slogan.

The greater the intelligence, the more they need to see Brookside.

Fact!!

DaDaDa · 29/08/2007 20:22

Early Brookside was class. Me and my mates all fancied Heather Haversham when we were 12, and Harry Cross was our cult hero. Once saw him in M&S in Liddypool.

Margaret the Nanny was played by Nicola Stevenson. Good actress.

But the best thing about it was the Magic Rabbits!

God it went downhill in the end though.

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 11:15

ooh i'd forgotten about the magic rabbit show! that was always on wasn't it

I loved it! So much so that I entered and won a competition on Radio1 to win a day visiting the set and having lunch with the cast!

It was just after they buried Trevor under the patio. So met Mandy, Anna Friel (was sooo tiny in real life), Terry (was a bit of a diva), Barry (had a huge crush on him), the Farnhams and Margaret.

Great day - but I found it went downhill not longer after so stopped watching it!

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 12:08

at terry was a diva - aw don't shatter my lovely terry illusions

fawkeoff · 30/08/2007 12:11

my mum swooned everytime barry was on, she was a convert to the bill when he joined the cast

UnquietDad · 30/08/2007 12:15

Where the hell did Max Farnham's secret mistress come from? He was meant to be seeing her while chopping nand cnaging wives?

Then there was Jenny the Psycho Teacher who conveniently had enough "free periods" to get out of school and stalk Mick. She must have been working half a timetable!

And the plague.... gawd, the plague! That was their "Bobby in the shower" moment, wasn't it?

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 12:23

what was the plague? i've forgotten that bit

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 30/08/2007 12:35

Didnt Terry go mad and through his wife off the top of the shops (Sue??)
I used to fancy Barry Grant cos he was hard and a bit tasty with his fists.
The Billy Corkhill and Sheila storyline was great.
Sinbad - classic.
I always wanted hair like Jacqui Dixon
Who were the family with Katie and the other girl in (who later went on to leave her daughter at home whilst she went on holiday). Was it Rogers?

UnquietDad · 30/08/2007 12:43

Yes - Katie and Sammy Rogers.

I can't believe I know so much about Brookside after only having weatched it on and off over a 2-year period (more precisely, being in the same room while it was on)...

The plague - a mystery infection hit the Close. Nobody ever ascertained what it was but the whole place was quarantined. I think Bing's wife (Jean?) was one of the victims. And that was during the time that the body of trevor Jordache was still under the patio!

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 12:44

barry threw sue off the shops didn't he?

katie (what happened to her?) always looked a bit miserable didn't she. sammy was her glam sister who took to the bottle iirc!
