Oh god - CasaBevRon! I'd forgotten that. Bev rocked.
And the Billy Corkhill/Sheila Grant lovestory - I remember being quite tearful when he finally kissed her

themoon66 · 21/08/2007 10:09

Oh I loved Brookside.

Happy memories of CasaBevRon. Never seen that actress that played bev in anything else though.

Sinbad is in Coronation Street now.

I loved it too..was my favourite soap ever..but it all went a bit mad in the end

lissie · 21/08/2007 10:15

its on virgin media tv on demand, watching the episode where sheila was attacked and it had me in tears!

IcingOnTheCake · 21/08/2007 10:22

When Jimmy Corkhill stole Bing's turf to fill up his sons coffin with, classic!

Easywriter · 22/08/2007 05:51

Brookside = sheer genius!

I loved it SOOOOOO much.

Aaaagh! Do you think we were literally the only one's who loved it and that's why it was taken off tv. Blummin' shame!

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2007 07:53

Brookie in the early days was the best, absolutely loved it, went really really pants towards the end though, I stopped watching it.

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2007 07:54

"It's not Damien, he spells 'bollocks' with one L"

ROFL.

saythatagain · 22/08/2007 14:46

Loved it! I remember wathching the very first episode (02/11/82) and was an avid viewer thereafter barr the last couple of years - went a bit strange IMO. Watching Sinbad on Corro brings all the memories flooding back

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2007 15:35

That quote is from the 1st episode when the Grants first move in, Barry says it to his Mum when she thinks Damen has spray painted swear words on the wall.

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2007 15:39

It was the best! Remember the scene where Sheila rang Billy to declare undying love to him and he was running the bath and he couldn't hear the phone? I was screaming at the telly 'TURN THE TAPS OFF!!!!' How sad am I?
Did you watch the spin off too - Daimen & Debbie?

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2007 15:44

I loved that, had such a crush on Simon OBrian, he's a property guru now isn't he?

Claim to fame - Sue Johnson used to live near me, she went into the shop where my Mum worked (bought cheap xmas paper and had her ham cut thin). Cast members were spotted in our local Off Licence all the time on the way round to her house.

suzycreamcheese · 22/08/2007 15:47

this is sad..

it was an awful programme in the end.. and the saturday omnibus and that tune just thumped on and on and never ended (my mum watched it) and it has put me off liverpudlian accent for life..

2mum · 24/08/2007 20:34

I used to really like it, i can still remember the theme tune! The best episode was Jimmy Corkhill finding the body under the patio!

policywonk · 24/08/2007 20:38

'Silent Witless'

LOLOLOLOLOL

Wandering Trolley, I think I love you

I remember the nurses' siege. That was scary.

Dinosaur · 24/08/2007 20:44

It was brilliant in the early days - I really hated to miss it.

They used to do serious stuff too - anybody remember when Sheila was raped?

ProfYaffle · 24/08/2007 20:48

It was really good on social issues in the early days, before Jimmy Corkhill turned into a caricature.

southeastastra · 24/08/2007 20:50

who was barry's sister, years ago, she went off to college

OP posts:
Dinosaur · 24/08/2007 20:51

Karen Grant

ProfYaffle · 24/08/2007 20:51

Was it Karen?

southeastastra · 24/08/2007 20:52

yes! i wonder what happened to her.

OP posts:
beansprout · 24/08/2007 20:55

I did Sociology A-level on the basis that Karen Grant did (it seemed so cool!) and went on to do my degree in the same. Ahem.

So do I win a prize for person-most-influenced-by-Brookie?

policywonk · 24/08/2007 20:56

Who remembers Karen losing her cherry while at a student party? I was young enough to find that hugely glamorous.

beansprout · 24/08/2007 20:56

Ah yes, and went to college in Wales where there is only S4C and hence, only the omnibus on Saturdays. A group of us formed BCAS (Billy Corkhill Appreciation Society) and used to sit and watch it in denim jackets and white t-shirts

Ok, I'll get my coat.....
