Have watched this family for years and read her books. Age is really catching up on Clive, he can hardly bend over now, it is very apparent in this new series. I don't like how the programme is becoming more contrived, it's obvious a lot of it is staged for the camera.

I love this programme! Amandas clothes often seem unpractical for farming but she seems comfy in them. Clive seems to be a lovely gentle man.

thenightsky · 28/07/2020 22:25

I'm sure the previous series didn't have such annoying and intrusive music drowning out the conversations.

Catspaw123 · 28/07/2020 23:35

Tonight's episode was the best. Clemmy is fabulous.

I agree. I loved the part with the sheep, and reminding her mum to shut the gate. Grin

Lovely family. So unmaterialistic writing their Christmas lists. So touching when Amanda was talking about the little calf that didn't make it 😔

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/07/2020 19:53

I think the children have a wonderful life. So she gets money for her writing and TV stuff, it's just diversification and the viewing figures are high so a lot of people must like it.

Scrowy · 29/07/2020 20:19

We enjoy watching this, although I must confess that is partly because we sometimes bump into Clive at the auction.

There's bits that are perhaps over egged and done just for the camera (Stunt turkey anyone?) and obviously that many children is unusual these days anyway, but other than that they live their life in a very similar way to us. The children seem lovely and Amanda and Clive are very obviously completely family orientated.

It's really interesting for me to see how the farming community picks up on completely different bits and nuances of the programme to non farming people.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 29/07/2020 20:44

Amanda is such an inspiration to me. I've only got 3 kids (all young) and sometimes feel overwhelmed. When I watch this programme she makes me think what the hell am I worried about! She literally just ploughs on and gets it all done, I love it.

purpleme12 · 29/07/2020 23:45

I really enjoy it too

The 'oh she doesn't want to go to school, go back to bed' was ridiculous: that isn't how it works with schools and they know damn well it isn't after 9 kids 😳 but they can look good on camera

Reception year is optional.

5363738383j · 30/07/2020 00:51

In fact all school is optional.

5363738383j · 30/07/2020 00:51

But you don't have to give any kind of education for that year.

5363738383j · 30/07/2020 00:56

If some people didn't live like this, a lot of our remote countryside wouldn't get farmed. I think there are more mean spirited bovines on this thread than in the entire Yorkshire Dales.

She was a model for one shoot because her mother wanted it. The photographer was dangerous, as it turned out. She went to agricultural college and lived hand to mouth founding her own flock and building a name for herself. She really is one of those people who have become famous because they're remarkable and unusual. That isn't contrived. Whether this is a safe way to live is a debate worth having, but someone has to do it and she has certainly paid her dues.

5363738383j · 30/07/2020 01:10

Plus, they're well known locally. Not exactly on a desert island.

5363738383j · 30/07/2020 01:11

But clearly that's all irrelevant because Brownies Hmm

They're not exactly stuck in a shoebox flat in London with an Xbox and a pot noodle.

StylishMummy · 31/07/2020 10:58

I find it staggering that Mumsnet is so intent on tearing down other parents who are clearly loving, caring, hard working people. This family is inspirational and interesting

purpleme12 · 31/07/2020 11:33

I'm not sure if the people who have criticised them are still on here...
The criticisms were about a previous series months ago...

Catspaw123 · 31/07/2020 22:06

I think they are fabulous with their kids, just fabulous generally really

dottypotter · 01/08/2020 20:12

Are there no other family for instance at Xmas wouldn't there be any grandparents tc. Family never mentioned

peonia · 01/08/2020 20:30

The Christmas day filming may have been done on a different day just for the programme, I'm not sure. If I remember correctly from the books Amanda has a sister and her mother is still alive but they aren't mentioned in the books. Clive has older children from his first marriage but I think they are on good terms as one of the sons helped manage some of their land that was a fair distance away.

A lot of the extended family might not want to be filmed so perhaps that's why they don't appear.

peonia · 01/08/2020 20:33

should say her sister and mother aren't mentioned much in the books

mrssunshinexxx · 02/08/2020 03:15

Me to @Catspaw123 and the kids seem veery happy The parents just speak to them so lovely and always so encouraging it's lovely to see
Tickled me this weeks episode when Clemie was rounding the sheep back up and said 'stupid buggers ' Grin

MrsBooks · 03/08/2020 21:07

I love this show. Clemmie is bloody adorable. I had thought of Amanda as quite hard faced until this last episode when she wouldn't tell Clemmie that KitKat had died, then got upset herself. The whole thing with the owl was amazing teamwork, from catching the mouse, putting it out for them in the barn, then catching it on a wildlife camera. The way Clemmie stuffed the dead mouse in her pocket had me howling.

As others have said, it is a lot of work for the kids but they seem to make a game out of it all and thrive on the responsibilities they're given. They seem such happy, humble kids!

Also, Toby the Pony in his bright pink fleecy blanket 😍😍

ChessieFL · 04/08/2020 06:27

Does anyone know if this is still on? I thought at the end of the last episode there was a ‘next week’ trailer but it doesn’t seem to be on tonight or the rest of this week.

VictoriaBun · 04/08/2020 06:38

It's not on tonight because of a Mon-Thurs thriller being on tv.
