Anyone watching?

Missed the beginning. Why are they stood blindfolded in a town centre with people writing on them? Confused

lastqueenofscotland · 28/10/2019 21:34

Yes
I’m really torn on this as an issue
I don’t agree with fat shaming and think people use it as a whole moral judgement and judge people’s whole character on it.
However obesity is a massive drainer on the NHS and dismissing the science is wrong.

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 21:35

It's one of the women's idea to boost body image within the group. 🤷🏻‍♀️

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 21:36

As an overweight person myself I know it gets harder to carry the weight around as you get older.

menacetosobriety · 28/10/2019 21:41

We are watching, the disregard of medical fact is frustrating me

(DH has resorted to tutting loudly at the tv)

We are both overweight but trying hard to rectify it with food and the gym

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/10/2019 21:42

Seeing the different opinions is really interesting. I'm big myself. I think it's important to focus on health but there's no point in focusing on making people feel bad about it. Empower people to make changes if they want to but there's no point in making anyone feel like crap, it helps nothing.

grafittiartist · 28/10/2019 21:48

Fascinating. I'm glad that they have put together people with differing views.
I'm torn. I'm not obese, but reluctantly accepting my overweight weight as my normal weight, because my body naturally arrives at it every time. It won't be my healthiest weight though.
Who knows what's right.

Dramaofallama · 28/10/2019 21:49

I'm watching it.
I do think the lady who lives in Canada does 'protest to much'.
She doesn't really wanna hear other people's opinions.

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 21:49

Yeah I agree drama.

The body positive woman with the short hair is poisonous. She wants others to be fat to validate herself and just denies science like being fat=unhealthy is a conspiracy.

OverByYer · 28/10/2019 21:52

Health is a social construct ?
She’s talking in riddles to avoid confronting the issue

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 21:52

"I'm not going to answer the question " 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
TheDogsMother · 28/10/2019 21:53

She won't answer the question because it is ableist ! She is like someone from a cult religion

scousadelic · 28/10/2019 21:54

I'm never in favour of fat shaming but, conversely, I do feel the positivity woman with the glasses should not be shaming others for trying to eat healthily or lose weight if that is what they wish to do.
Some people feel positive about their bodies, whatever size, others don't. Some want to change, others don't.
...and if she calls bariatric surgery stomach amputation again I may scream! I have a friend who has had that surgery and know it is not an easy road to take. She still wants to eat (mentally), even knowing she should not and often cannot (physically) and it is still a daily struggle for her although her health has improved immeasurably. Ridding yourself of diabetes or other health issues is a big positive and to say health is not related to body size may not be true for many.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 28/10/2019 21:55

Wow she drank the coolaid! I'm amazed at the depth and breadth of her denial.

Soontobe60 · 28/10/2019 21:57

No one should be made to feel less of a person because of the way they look, whether that’s underweight, overweight, short, tall and so on.
Everyone should be supported to live a healthy life though!

longwayoff · 28/10/2019 21:58

I think this encourages self-delusion. Canada woman is not helpful at all, making herself feel good by suggesting others ignore medical advice in favour of her opinions instead. Ignorant self interest.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 28/10/2019 21:58

This is a tough watch. Obviously I think people should feel free to be comfy in their own skin no matter what.

But the loud denial of medical evidence, claiming "it's all been de-bunked" but without any backing that up...hmm. Can't help noticing the health impact denial shouters are all younger so they are basically getting away with damage right now, but that won't last forever will it? I mean I could drink heavily at twenty but I don't now. I'm not a healthy weight now but am working towards it and the increase in my health, energy and resilience since losing a decent amount of weight has actually shocked me.

Pleased to see there are more of them in the programme stating the health risks clearly, and themselves getting frustrated with the others.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 28/10/2019 21:58

Sorry but Victoria is awful.

'Health is a social construct'

WTF

She is incredibly smug and manipulative.

TheDogsMother · 28/10/2019 21:59

Straight sized ? What is that ?

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 22:01

Victoria is manipulative. I really don't like her.

OP posts:
smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/10/2019 22:01

"I feel a bit judged actually" that's rich considering everyone doing anything healthy has been being judged by her!

MardiBras · 28/10/2019 22:02

Cult woman isn’t as fat as the others but seems determined to make sure the others stay fat and don’t change their ways

Soontobe60 · 28/10/2019 22:03

I positively snorted at her plans to take her messages into schools! I hope she’s not planning on making a living from that plan

thenightsky · 28/10/2019 22:03

Can't help noticing the health impact denial shouters are all younger

Yes this. I'd like to see if they've changed their attitude by 50 or 60. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hips at 50 and every pound I put on hurts me more.
