Starts tomorrow

When a young, talented ballerina is found dead on an ancient stone altar, her death drags up another tragedy that befell this community years before - when three children disappeared into the local woods and only one returned

Ugh, I gave up on picnic.

This is a weird kind of confusing. The Bridge was intriguing/confusing. Les Revenants was super confusing. Plenty of other crime type dramas that are baffling to start with.

This feels more like bad writing and withholding of indignation in lieu of an actual plot.

Bellasblankexpression · 24/10/2019 23:20

Picnic at Hanging Rock was infuriating.

happilybemused · 25/10/2019 08:47

Forgot all about Picnic at Hanging Rock. The BBC has prior form with wasting my time. Amber was BBC 4. If this is the same I'm writing to Points of View (if this is still a thing, possibly ended in the 1980's)

Rollergirl11 · 25/10/2019 14:32

SPOILER ALERT

Just been listening to the Shrine podcast for Episode 1 & 2. They have a theory that Rosalind is not Margaret & Jonathan’s daughter but is actually Sandra’s baby, that Margaret pretended to be pregnant so they could pass off Sandra’s baby as legitimate. I didn’t get this at all. I thought that Sandra had gone to England for an abortion!

What does everyone think???! I can’t see why Margaret’s parents would agree to this, seeing as they are a “good family”. Do you think they’re barking up the wrong tree?

AnOojamaflip · 25/10/2019 18:03

Wrong tree I thought.

No sure about the twin swap thing either

CoolCarrie · 25/10/2019 18:37

happily Points Of View is still on, usually on a Sunday I think

Andromeida59 · 25/10/2019 22:30

I wanted to enjoy it but it really is laughable. We both had a giggle with the bit with the deer.

I think Rob/Adam killed "Katy" as revenge for 1985. I think that a going to be the twist. I do hope it improves.

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 22:36

I really don't understand why they've decided to merge two books into one story.

I've read them all, and I still haven't a clue what's going on!

CoolCarrie · 25/10/2019 23:05

BI that’s not good if you’ve read the books and don’t understand, what hope is there for the rest of us!

queenjaneapprox · 25/10/2019 23:24

I'm child free tonight so have just binge watched episodes 1-4 on iPlayer whilst binge drinking wine, haven't got a scooby doo what's going on but I've enjoyed myself 😂🍷

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 23:34

Well, @CoolCarrie it was a long time ago that I read them! So I'm sort of in and out - some things I remember, some things I don't. And so I don't know if some of the stuff is being written in/changed to suit the TV adaptation, or if I just don't remember it Grin

Clawdy · 26/10/2019 08:24

Sarah Phelps, the screen writer, has form for changing book storylines (Agatha Christie adaptations! ) so I guess this may be different from the books. Like others on here, I've read those two books, but I'm really confused watching this!

CoolCarrie · 26/10/2019 16:03

Story BI, it wasn’t a criticism of you,

CoolCarrie · 26/10/2019 16:04

That should say sorry, not story!

BIWitch · 26/10/2019 16:27

That's OK - I didn't take it as such Grin

CoolCarrie · 27/10/2019 20:10

Has anyone read The Wych Elm by the same writer? Saw it today in a book shop, but unsure about buying it.

colouringinpro · 27/10/2019 23:44

binge-watching, up to ep4. seriously confused about the whole Lexie thing! And who's Sandra?!

BIWitch · 28/10/2019 07:39

@CoolCarrie she's a really good writer, so yes, I'd definitely buy it

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 28/10/2019 10:19

I'm with BIWitch - read both books years ago, can remember vague 'themes' and the odd detail but not enough to fully know what's going on and/or what has been invented for the TV. I have no idea if the genesis of Lexie was in the book like this or not!

I do know I have been gripped by every book of Tana French's that I've read (three or four by now) so would definitely recommend her, even if you're wavering over the show.

Squigean · 28/10/2019 10:40

@colouringinpro Sandra is the cleaner in the ballet school. Claims she didn't know the parents, but was in 85 the girlriend of Jonathan Devlin. According to Mrs Fitzgerald shes got pregnant (Jonathan being the father) and had an abortion.

There's no love lost between Mrs Fitzgerald and Sandra. Mrs Fitzgerald thinks Sandra's a no-good slut and Sandra thinks Mrs Fitzgerald thibks herself a good catholic but is poisonous vindictive woman (I'm paraphrasing those descriptions - can't recall the actual ones).

colouringinpro · 28/10/2019 13:01

thanks v much 😁

Charley50 · 28/10/2019 17:44

Who's watching it tonight? I might have a Baileys on the go to see if it helps shed a light on it all Grin

Encyclo · 28/10/2019 21:25

Watching. Looks like Rob/Adam was sexually abused by his dad.

PlayingGrownUp · 28/10/2019 21:56

What makes you think that about his dad?

Piggywaspushed · 28/10/2019 21:56

Am I imagining that nothing has actually happened in this episode??
