Starts tomorrow

When a young, talented ballerina is found dead on an ancient stone altar, her death drags up another tragedy that befell this community years before - when three children disappeared into the local woods and only one returned

OP posts:

Came on mn to see if anyone could give me a brief précis as I’m lost... but reading through the last few posts it would appear that I’m joining a bunch of confused people!!

Sotiredofthislife · 28/10/2019 22:04

So the girl who was raped...the dance place cleaner in current time? So is the suggestion that the rape and what happened to the two disappeared children is linked?

Clawdy · 28/10/2019 22:07

There was nothing that implied that at all.

Dulra · 28/10/2019 22:07

Sotiredofthislife I think so. They witnessed the rape and ponytail guy made chase after them but Adam has as yet not remembered what happened next Hmm

They definitely hinted that Adam was abused by his dad but nothing confirmed yet.

queenjaneapprox · 28/10/2019 22:07

Does anyone else think that Rosalind is the baby Sandra Sculley was supposed to have aborted?

Clawdy · 28/10/2019 22:07

I mean about Adam's dad.

Sotiredofthislife · 28/10/2019 22:08

Ooh...queenjane, the ‘I didn’t want you’...yes, possibly.

queenjaneapprox · 28/10/2019 22:09

I also got the impression Adam was abused by his dad...

queenjaneapprox · 28/10/2019 22:10

The shot of his hand on his back was a bit creepy. Then when adam refuses to hold his hand when his dads in his death bed....

Sotiredofthislife · 28/10/2019 22:10

I am struggling with Rob and Cassie’s relationship. He was truly awful to her and yet she knows his secret (and possibly he knows hers) and they were close enough to have keys to each other’s homes...and then he treats like that but goes running back to her at the first hint of trouble. What do they have on each other?!

Clawdy · 28/10/2019 22:10

What did I miss that implied Adam was abused by his dad?

Piggywaspushed · 28/10/2019 22:11

he gave him illicit sweets and put his very large hand on his back.

Sotiredofthislife · 28/10/2019 22:12

Was he abused by his dad or is he just utterly incredulous that his parents effectively gave him up, ostensibly to protect him because no one seemed to believe he didn’t know what had happened. But did they actually send him away to protect their own standing in their community?

queenjaneapprox · 28/10/2019 22:13

I agree the relationship is very strange between rob/Adam and Cassie. He's so intrinsically linked with the disappearances but we don't know how she fits in.... and the Lexie thing is making my head hurt

Encyclo · 28/10/2019 22:13

The sweets followed by "don't tell Mum" then the hand on his back.
When they cut to the fathers death bed Adam wouldn't touch him

Charley50 · 28/10/2019 22:22

@Piggywaspushed - yeh it did strangely seem as if nothing happened the whole episode.

And whassername may look like Lexie, but surely she can't sound like her? I thought she was going to be unable to talk as a cover.

Squigean · 28/10/2019 22:29

Yes Sotiredofthislife that's the idea I got. Cathal went for Peter, Jamie and Adam because they witness his rapng Sandra.

Don't know about why Margaret would marry Jonathan to raise Sandra's baby. Plus they didn't marry for four years after. So it doesn't add up.

I felt it was uncomfortable and implied something sinister, the hand on Adam's back. Rob is very cold emotionally isnt he? Doesn't bother him one bit if someone dislikes him. But then there is Boarding School.Symdrome - emotional numbness and difficulty forming relationships. So hand on back might be nothing.

TonTonMacoute · 28/10/2019 22:49

I am an episode behind so was watching last week's, and I had an epiphany halfway through.

This is complete shite, I have no fucking clue what's going on and, more importantly, I don't care.

Have given up and feel slightly relieved.

BIWitch · 28/10/2019 22:51

It's a shame though @TonTonMacoute - the books are brilliant.

I found all the flashbacks in tonight's episode really tedious. I get that they're trying to show Adam/Rob remembering what happened, but really don't think it needed to take as long as it did!

longtompot · 28/10/2019 22:54

Does Cassie know Rob is Adam? I didn't think she did Confused

BIWitch · 28/10/2019 22:58

I think she does

Linwin · 28/10/2019 23:13

Yeah she does know, back in one of the first episodes she was dead against them taking the Katie case because of his connection with the original disappearances.

It’s an awful load of shite but I’m strangely transfixed.

Although I did not like Rob touching the arm of Katie’s sister 😮

Encyclo · 28/10/2019 23:20

That lie about Adam being dead is going come back to haunt him

Encyclo · 28/10/2019 23:29

I like it. I love Sarah Green though and would watch her in anything.

He's very unlikable and I'm finding it hard to root for him. I need to know what happened in the woods so I'm hanging in there.

Conlieth Hill is great as usual.

JemimaTab · 29/10/2019 04:53

I think it was a mistake to merge two books in this series. I’d only read the first book myself, and quite liked it, but there are still some cliches (murder detectives with a tortured past, what AGAIN?). The Lexie story is ludicrous - the hospital set-up, the fact that she would have exactly the same voice and appearance and none of her friends would be able to spot the difference?? Then there are the obligatory shots of the naked female corpse - making sure to linger over the breasts, because that was obviously essential to the plot.
