Starts tomorrow

When a young, talented ballerina is found dead on an ancient stone altar, her death drags up another tragedy that befell this community years before - when three children disappeared into the local woods and only one returned

Findumdum1 · 22/10/2019 22:35

I like Cassies hair too!

Findumdum1 · 22/10/2019 22:36

But Rob (Killian)'s Right eyebrow bugs me! Why doesn't he trim it!

Powergower · 22/10/2019 22:40

Very confusing and slow in parts. Really want to stick with it but having to explain to dh every 5 mins what the fuck is going on is doing my head in. I can barely keep up myself ffs.

ReallyLoveChickens · 22/10/2019 22:46

It’s really hard to understand what is going on.

VeniVidiVoxi · 22/10/2019 23:20

I started liking it but it's a bit too jumbled now. I need to know who dead lexie is and why she's dead - mistaken identity or message to Cass? Why the similar injuries bit? Who are the students? What's going on with hi-vis man? Who has risen? Pony tail man seems to be a red herring, rob is too focused on pinning it on him (so said expression of disgraced cop). Wet archeologist had to be up to something! What did happen to the two kids? Laughing in the woods?!? Why the sneaky wolf? How on earth can Cassie pull off being Lexi to her, you know, best bloody mates? Wtaf is going on? Also, clunk clunk clunk pictures and dialogue. If I had anything better to do I would stop watching Grin

AnOojamaflip · 23/10/2019 00:22

Ok just finished watching (can't watch iplayer as not in the UK).

What I find difficult is the random fantasy element- the wolf and Lexie dressed the same as Cassie appearing out the wood. What's that about!!!!!!

I'm going to find that podcast

Tartyflette · 23/10/2019 01:21

I can't find the podcast and I really neeeed it to be explained.
On many, many levels.

I think we have to remember we’re only at the halfway point so of course there are going to be lots of things we don’t have the answers to yet.

Has anyone other than Rob or Cassie “seen” (dreamed?) the magic realism stuff? Rob has the wolf, which I assume is from the warped memory of the police dog barking at him when he was found in a right state in the woods, Cassie has imaginary best friend Lexie, presumably a result of a dissociative state after the trauma of her parents’ death. Can’t think of anyone else who has similar?

GlitteryNow · 23/10/2019 07:47

I'm guessing the wolf and the young Lexi appearing after the crash are just signs of the demons both lead characters have.

Cassie maybe chose the name Lexi for her undercover work as a nod to her bad younger alter ago? No idea why they are identical that does seem odd, as does them pretending she was still alive for her friends, a charade I can't imagine any hospital going along with.

I am enjoying it, it's very atmospheric. All the parts are being played so well particularly Katy's angry and grieving parents.

You would think that the murder of a child would have a much bigger team working on it though, it all seems very amateurish from an investigation point.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 23/10/2019 08:17

That’s just the inevitable TV thing I think. We’ve already got loads of characters so throwing more named / speaking parts into the investigation team would probably just make things even more confusing. As it is we’ve got Rob, Cassie (or did have), Quigley, the uniformed Guard (Phelan?), they drafted Sam in and there’s a few in the background on phones and things.

Sotiredofthislife · 23/10/2019 09:49

So....dead girl’s dad, slicked back hair guy and He Rises were all involved in something in 1985 and Rob/Adam was told by one of them to go before whatever happened happened. So did Rob/Adam go or did he witness it? Dead girl’s dad and slicked back hair guy made reference to 1985 and getting away with it and did they think they could avoid it forever? Slicked back hair guy is blaming He Rises? Dead girl’s dad thinks his daughter died as a result of what happened in 1985?

Two separate 1985 in the woods incidents or one?

I am still intrigued as to the relationship between Cassie and Rob...he was horrible to her. Why does she know his secret? Does he fully know her alter ego situation with Lexi?

It’s confusing but I like it!

Bellasblankexpression · 23/10/2019 10:57

I’m not finding it hard to follow - it seems to be a pretty standard “woven tale” detective series, but then I watch a lot of them. But I’m a bit disappointed with the latest development in their relationship - I liked their partnership, it was quite refreshing.
He was really horrible to her - I wonder if this is to do with his own issues... he seemed to turn quite quickly.
I’m not overly sold on the Lexie story - I’m finding it hard to care about it. I found it a bit predictable that she would inevitably go back and be her too, but I’m hoping the next couple of episodes surprise me!
For the first time after watching an episode I was gutted that I couldn’t binge the rest.

ReallyLoveChickens · 23/10/2019 11:00

Ha yes it’s painful having to wait!

GlitteryNow · 23/10/2019 11:38

'He was really horrible to her - I wonder if this is to do with his own issues... he seemed to turn quite quickly.'

I think he said horrible stuff to her on purpose to push her away, maybe he has strong feelings for her but thinks it's better if they don't have a relationship. Bit late in the days once they've had sex of course.

Charley50 · 23/10/2019 12:20

I agree Glittery. He is scared of falling in love, being vulnerable, so he's pushing her away.

implantsandaDyson · 23/10/2019 12:59

I don't think it's the first time they've had sex. I think they have one of those relationships that veer into a sexual one from time to time. They're so intimate with each other in everyday things that I thought they either had a familial relationship but that's not the case so I think they've previously had a sexual one.

I think maybe they met when she was undercover as Lexie and he recognised quickly she was hiding something as did she- takes one to know one and they've been linked since.

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2019 14:44

I can’t work out whether Killian Scott is a really bad actor or not. His contrived way of speaking is really starting to annoy me. Nobody reacts like Rob does. When they hit the animal in the car and it made a bang, Cassie reacted but Rob barely acknowledged it.

I also couldn’t give two fucks about the preposterous Lexie storyline. They’ve fucked it combining the two. It’s made it maddeningly difficult to follow and really convoluted.

KanelbulleKing · 23/10/2019 16:34

I came here to find out what the heck was going on, but I see that you're all as confused as I am.

AnOojamaflip · 23/10/2019 16:36

But I’m a bit disappointed with the latest development in their relationship - I liked their partnership, it was quite refreshing

It is refreshing but we already know their relationship breaks down and ends, due to the opening scene. Rob being manic in the basement then Cassie walks away saying it's the last time they'll see each other.

kaytees · 23/10/2019 17:29

@Rollergirl11 I agree re his acting - I just don't buy that he'd deliberately be that wooden!

stumbledin · 23/10/2019 19:46

I haven't been confused but have been able to speculate to myself all sorts of explanations as to what is going on. For instance after the 2 episodes last week I was convinced Adam / Rob would turn out to be (cant remember the proper name for this) an evil spirit coming back in the guise of Adam.

But not after this week's two episodes. Cassie's doppleganger must be the faery child or ...

The BBC does list it as a supernatural thrilled and am not sure if you need to be familiar with Irish folk lore for it to make more sense eg what a "fetch" means.

But am amazed the BBC allowed spoilers in their own PR to big up the show by having the writer say quote "we all know from the books that ... " which I wont add as it is a spoiler, and wished I hadn't read it.

Also wondered whether Rob is meant to represent repressed Englishness as there were many comments this week about him being the "enemy" that any true Irish person would not want to work with.

Charley50 · 23/10/2019 21:06

I think it was the first time they'd had sex.

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2019 22:27

Stumbledin: isn’t the term for what you describe a “changeling”? Someone had actually graffiti’d it on Adam’s house in the 1980’s timeline.

The Lexie storyline just seems utterly implausible to me. Lexie is an alter-ego that young Cassie invented and that she brought to life in her undercover police work. But now someone that looks identical to Cassie (that Cassie has no knowledge of until now) has stolen the identity? Does this mean that the Lexie that Cassie imagined is actually real after all? How absolutely ridiculous!!

They didn’t focus on the 80’s missing children/dead Katy much in the last episode. But I wonder if it is something like the older teenagers were involved in securing the 3 younger kids to offer up as sacrifice to whatever it is that “lives in the woods”?

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2019 22:28

Oh, I also think that was the first time they had had sex.
