Starts tomorrow

When a young, talented ballerina is found dead on an ancient stone altar, her death drags up another tragedy that befell this community years before - when three children disappeared into the local woods and only one returned

I might be the lone voice in the anti Tana French camp. I find her writing contrived and her plots over convoluted with some preposterous denouements(which I fully expect in this !). Haven't read either of these books, mind.

Charley50 · 29/10/2019 07:04

Cassie definitely knows he's Adam. Kind of makes a mockery of the whole investigation really.

RaynaJaymes · 29/10/2019 09:08

As someone else said, as if Cassie would have exactly the same voice/mannerisms as her dead lookalike
It really is the biggest pile of tosh but I need to know what happens

Leaning towards Rosalind being involved somehow with Katie’s murder, maybe a jealous sibling angle. She is clearly emotionally abused by both parents

Clawdy · 29/10/2019 09:14

I don't understand why Adam didn't tell his parents or the police about the rape in the woods.

MinesaPinot · 29/10/2019 09:25

I've been quite disappointed with this - the trailer made it look quite intriguing. I am going to stick with it and see tonight's final episode but I strongly suspect it will be a case of 'was that it?'

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 29/10/2019 09:26

I don't understand why Adam didn't tell his parents or the police about the rape in the woods.

I think (emphasis on uncertainty here!) that last night when he went back to the tree he was found against was the first time he clearly remembered anything of the 1985 events - I think we're supposed to assume he was too traumatised by whatever then happened to him/Peter/Jamie to have lost all memory of the whole thing. I presume we're going to see further scenes of Rob gradually remembering more and more over the next few weeks.

Tonight's episode is 6/8, it doesn't end until next Tuesday.

MinesaPinot · 29/10/2019 09:27

Next few weeks? I thought tonight was the last one!

TroysMammy · 29/10/2019 09:29

The final episode is next week, 5th November.

MinesaPinot · 29/10/2019 09:29

oops, cross post.

I didn't realise there was another week. Plenty of time to get even more convoluted then.

northernstars · 29/10/2019 12:59

I've read both books and putting them together like this stretches incredulity to the limit. He is called to a crime scene he couldn't be more familiar with and she goes undercover as someone who happens to look like her, live in same city etc and the friends don't notice?!?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2019 14:09

Ok just seen last nights

So the 3 children are running through the woods due to watching the girl /cleaner get raped :( by Jonathon friends

The dark youth then chased them - I assume that’s not Jonathon but the bearded bloke

The children got split up and Adam only one

So did they teenagers kill Jamie and one child

Sorry I’m dreadful with names

The boy who raped Sandra is Cathal. In 2006 has a beard and a pony tail, and is the property developer.

Jonathan was her boyfriend- though by the date he three younger ones went missing they had apparently broken up. According to Sandra anyway. Uncertain if Sanda was raped by Cathal on the same day the two went missing. But seems likely. We presume the scenes of Cathal chasing Peter and Jamie was the same day.

In 85, Sean is the quieter of the other two - kissed Sandra first and was just a quick peck. Sean in 2006 is the hi-vis wearing drunk - painting He risen.

Wonder how likely it would be that no one would recognise Rob as Adam, just because of his accent (well plus the whole no longer being a boy!!)

happilybemused · 29/10/2019 17:45

It may be worth avoiding reading the linked episode 5 recap if you don't want to discover the one of the endings in the books.

Not to say they will keep it the same.

CoolCarrie · 29/10/2019 21:15

Where are the bodies of the two children? The police must have used dogs and surely they would smell them? Is there a river they could have been dumped in? Did the rape happen on the same day as the children disappeared?

Thanks @Squigean. I’m rubbish with names

So Jonathon just watched

Any chance the baby was Cathal and not Jonathan’s hence why she had an abortion

Anyone watching tonight? The undercover operation is bananas. How has she not been rumbled?

Bellasblankexpression · 29/10/2019 21:53

I was thinking about the undercover operation. Surely with the investigation into Katy's death, Cassie has been out and about a bit investigating - a lot of people will have seen her and journalists etc will be aware of her. It seems so odd that they think they can keep her going undercover as Lexie on the downlow and nobody will notice two people look exactly like twins...
Like nobody looks at Lexie and thinks oh she's the spitting image of that policewoman.

(Obviously now she IS Cassie as Cassie is undercover but I mean generally do the powers that be not think this is really insane?!)

Not sure I'm making much sense, I'm very tired

CoolCarrie · 29/10/2019 21:59

Is Cassie pregnant? It’s years since I used one of those! Why do the villagers hate them?

CoolCarrie · 29/10/2019 22:00

I agree the sound is off, wish I had subtitles

Encyclo · 29/10/2019 22:08

The villagers wanted the motorway built but the students are objecting.

Looks like Cassie's been busted

Encyclo · 29/10/2019 22:09

I think she is pregnant.

queenjaneapprox · 29/10/2019 22:12

I'm totally lost with it all now 🙄
