I'm with you on this one.

Sheherazadethegoat · 13/08/2007 21:35

I watched it. There were lots of interesting thought-provoking ideas, but I still think there's something in the spiritual thing!

sliderule · 13/08/2007 21:39

yep watched it - loved it - but missed a large chunk in middle thanks to dd waking. Still next week looks interesting and they are inroducing channel 4+1 - so if necessary I can stagger the viewing

I can read tarot cards and always impressed my friends with it - but it is all smoke and mirrors - observation etc. not a jot of mysticism needed!

Sheherazadethegoat · 13/08/2007 21:40

so you are all about the essential 'rockness' of a rock?

i liked his approach there was nowhere for nonsense to slip round the edges. i felt sorry for the dowsers though, they weren't doing any harm.

i know its always the same old shite - you must have faith blahblahblah. no i must have evidence. i liked his bit at the end when he said there was enough poetry in teh known world.

More like a big spliff and a glass of wine - lol

But yes people love nothing more than having someone else concentrate solely on them - be really interested and I enjoyed giving the 'readings' - never pretended I had a astral power or a link to Gaia or whatever - just wanted to see what the cards would bring out in my friends - their reactions to the pictures were more informative than the card meanings. I see tarot as an early form of counselling.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/08/2007 21:46

btw I am sliderule but am usually bigmouth.

Sheherazadethegoat · 13/08/2007 21:47

a good friend recently told me about going to a medium i wanted to howl with laughter but couldn't cos she is so nice. and she swore me to secrecy so i can't even tell dh and have a good old snurk.

consider me well and throughly teased.

I missed about half of it but RD seemed on form.
I think the medium guy must have not heard of Richard Dawkins. Probably same with the alternative therapist next week.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/08/2007 21:55

It was refreshing viewing.

I wish I could explain my views with his clarity. There have been so many times in the pub (not recently unfortunately) where I have entered into long drwn out frustrating arguments about religion/ the universe etc. where a bit of cold hard reason would have been useful - and less beer

Kathyis6incheshigh · 13/08/2007 22:00

Oh well stick around these threads and you will get lots of practice Bigmouth
We just need a suitably inflammatory OP to attract the attention of the homeopaths.

Kathy

What about 'I would rather stick needles in my eyes than visit an acupunturist!' - or is that too unsubtle??

Kathyis6incheshigh · 13/08/2007 22:13

Unsubtle is good.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/08/2007 22:19

Actually though - I would quite like to start one about tarot... at least I know what I am talking about there.

All I know about Homeopathy etc. is that Prince Charles is a fan and that is a good argument against it for a start but I am sure I need more.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 13/08/2007 22:27

There have been threads recently asking people to recommend a good medium
Unfortunately it's never been at a time when I could settle down for a good row or I would have made some comment about there being no such thing.

BBBee · 13/08/2007 22:31

loved it - all the stuff about exaggerated superstion and relating it to skinner's pigeon stuff - really made me think.

like him ecen if he is a bit scary.
