Aha! I was hoping there'd be a thread. Yes, I definitely find Sidney's line about the banks a bit sus. If he's that well connected, they're unlikely to refuse him...

Kit19 · 23/09/2019 20:39

@FatherFintanFay bluntly I can’t see what Sidney is meant to see in Charlotte. I mean she’s pretty but he’s at least 10 years older than her & hangs out in London society. Pretty girls are two a penny. He clearly thinks she’s too impulsive & outspoken because he’s constantly yelling it at her. I get what she is meant to see in him - money, worldly, connections, nice bod but I can’t for the life of me understand what he’s meant to see in her

@Rhubarb01 I can’t see Davies being that good a writer as to make Stringer a convincing cad. I mean he might try but it would be so jarring with what has gone so far. From what he’s said in interviews, he’s probably going to have him lose out to Sidney because he’ll be “friend zoned” Davies word not mine. Personally I could see charlottes dilemma if it were between the hot but disagreeable Sidney & the plain but adorable & respectful stringer. As it is.....they probably should have hired a less attractive actor to play stringer 😆

FatherFintanFay · 23/09/2019 21:20

Oh, he can fuck right off with the fucking friend zone. Argh!

Rhubarb01 · 23/09/2019 21:34

Yes, I guess Young Stringer would have required a long, dark, twirly moustache to convincingly play the rotter in all this Grin.

I don't even understand what "Friend Zoned" means Confused

Rhubarb01 · 23/09/2019 21:37

OK so google gives a long complicated explanation basically meaning - she doesn't think of him in that way.

FatherFintanFay · 23/09/2019 21:50

It's a thing that entitled "nice guys" say about women who aren't romantically interested in them. As if being a woman's friend is some kind of rubbish consolation prize. It's usually accompanied by an air of bewilderment that she won't "give him a chance" despite the fact he's nice to her and everything, because everyone knows that women are like slot machines. Put niceness in, get sex out.

Sorry, had a bit of a rant there. I just hate that term!

Kit19 · 23/09/2019 22:35

Yep @FatherFintanFay I loathe the term - the whole sentence is in fact much worse because it goes on to say “is he in the friend zone or is there a fanny flutter?” FANNY FLUTTER!! Please mr davies just never speak again

Stringer is a nice guy not a Nice Guy I don’t think he thinks he’s owed anything from Charlotte

And yes Im unconvinced by Sidney’s “sorry bro I couldn’t get the bank” to help as well. I’m not sure why he’d see his brother go bankrupt though 🤔 for all his faults, he genuinely seems to care about his family & he must know Tom is in a very bad place

icelolly99 · 24/09/2019 14:20

Just caught up with all episodes; I'm enjoying it but then i have to admit I've never read any Austen....sorry! It's got a good cast even if the writing is a bit too modern. A few silly observations; weird to see Dyrham park so near the sea....thats some global warming. Esther actress looks like she could be Kathryn Ryans sister. It's fun to see George Wharleggans burly henchman as a bubbly numpty. Leo 'hot architect' has been given a much better script than he had for the woeful Beecham House. Anne Reid and Adrian Scarborough are always excellent. Chris Marshall is still brooding missing out on being Doctor Who and what's happened to the gorgeous Theo's facial mole; he certainly still had it when he was dying in Lady Mary Crawley's bed.... 😁

www.digitalspy.com/tv/a29262395/itv-sanditon-leo-suter-young-stringer-love-triangle/

a row off eh??

well if Young Stringer doesnt win that then there is definitely a fix going on as Leo Suter used to row at Oxford and still rows now.....

JaneJeffer · 27/09/2019 21:41

Oh fucking hell!

Grin
FatherFintanFay · 28/09/2019 08:20

This being AD, I'm sure Sidney and Young Stringer will eventually have a fight over Charlotte where they happen to fall into a fountain or ornamental pond, and carry on grappling each other in clingy wet clothes. I probably won't complain tbf.

Kit19 · 28/09/2019 10:10

@FatherFintanFay

I’m sure the fanfic of that already exists 😆

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:19

I love this deathbed scene. It looks like a painting.

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:25

High speed carriage chase Grin

OP posts:
FatherFintanFay · 29/09/2019 21:31

That was so thoroughly silly I had to look away. Sidney boarding the other carriage like that. How did he even know it was the right one? I would have laughed if he'd hijacked the Royal Mail coach by accident.

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:35

So Sidney is a regular at the brothel.

OP posts:
Kit19 · 29/09/2019 21:43

So we’re headed for ye olde only Charlotte can heal Sidney & help him get over his broken heart trope

It would be so nice if just for once the woman’s role wasn’t to “heal” the hero but instead to actually have a hero that was a properly functioning human being that didbt need rescuing, fixing or in anyway sorting out

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:46

Charlotte looks perpetually confused.

OP posts:
FatherFintanFay · 29/09/2019 21:47

Miss Brereton seemed to know what she was doing there, didn't she? Doesn't Lady Denham have any servants that might have needed to come into that room?

FatherFintanFay · 29/09/2019 21:48

Yes, Charlotte does rather suffer from pouty duck-face.

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:49

I loved them writhing around on the giant snake. Very apt Grin

No need to get dressed in such a hurry Edward. Take your time.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 29/09/2019 21:50

Charlotte and Sidney are sickening. Give me Edward and Clara any day.

OP posts:
FatherFintanFay · 29/09/2019 21:58

Jesus, Charlotte, have some dignity. Stop gazing at him with your gob wide open.
