Oh I'm liking Stringer as the new (or should it be old) Philip Treacy Grin

@Kit19 very sorry about your tooth extraction, sounds horrid. Hope you’re recovering.

@JaneJeffer have discovered this week that you are a regular on the tennis thread on which I lurk. 👋

Looking forward to hearing more about #hatgate. Tell us it didn’t perish! The public demands to know the truth!

lululup · 19/10/2019 18:51

#hatgate is nowt compared to how much #hairdowngate received. I happened to be watching the Keira Knightley P and P and notice she had her hair a lot too. The reaction to Charlotte’s loose hair has been ferocious but those hairstyles are so elaborate surely done women must have thought fuck it!

lululup · 19/10/2019 18:54

This is from Leo Suter's insta. Clearly he's had some ribbing.

No pictures of the Diddymen, I notice. He’s too young, bless him.

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2019 19:04

Grin love how he has Sanditon Development on there

englishmummy I'll keep an eye out for you coming out of hiding Grin kazza is also a tennis regular

Thank you @englishmummyinwales it’s getting better :)

@lululup yep 😆😆 Leo definitely watches social media to see what’s being said & I love that he sends himself up

Babybel90 · 19/10/2019 20:31

Awww @kit19 I’m touched that even through the pain of tooth extraction you found the strength to post a gratuitous Leo pic, hope you get well soon Flowers

I’m hoping there’s a Christmas special that involves a huge gust of wind that knocks Stringers hat off, possibly while he’s chatting about architecture to Lady Susan, who recognises a hot bit of stuff when she sees it and whisks him off to London to live the high life (DH informs me he’d be quite happy to be whisked off his feet by Big Suze!)

I usually watch a first series to the end to see how it goes and to give it a chance. Don't like finishing a book mid-way either. If it is dodgy then I won't bother with the next series. Have done that loads of times - maybe I am odd? Definitely will come on to MN to complain about it though - dh, dc, the dog and the cat are just not that interested!

Kit19 · 20/10/2019 11:41

Andrew Davies interview in the Sunday Times saying he wrote sanditon the way he did with the sole purpose of getting a second series

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/why-did-andrew-davies-give-sanditon-an-unhappy-ending-to-make-the-jane-austen-society-shriek-for-more-rnjz67b8g

Tbh he comes across as a bit of a tit to me but then I’m not a fan of brooding (aka moody af) brusque (aka rude af) leading men. It’s just all a bit urgh to me

Also young stringer is “sturdy & worthy” & he wants to drag the ‘will they won’t they?’ with Charlotte & Sidney out. Oh do bog off! There is no ‘will they won’t they’ with Charlotte & Sidney there is only ‘when will they’ & what Ridiculous plot twist will have to happen for them to get married now Sidney is engaged so for the love of god stop pretending there is a love triangle because there isn’t one.

Rhubarb01 · 20/10/2019 12:18

Thanks for the link Kit. That was interesting and pretty much summed up what most of have thought about this. I actually thought he was pretty honest about everything. I liked the part about plot not being his strong point, but would have expected others to give their input to this. He also admits that Sidney is a "bad-tempered bastard", so we weren't wrong about that either.

Time will tell if another series happens - there might have been a lot of social media about this, especially the ending, and not all of it favourable, but I think we live in the world in which any hype and publicity is noted. Sufficient volume of indignation might well be enough to get it recommissioned.

Kit19 · 20/10/2019 12:34

Yes it was at least very honest. I find him saying plot isn’t his strong point just 🤪🤪🤪 I mean isnt plot the most important thing? It doesn’t matter how good characters are, if they’re doing ridiculous things isnt it all a bit pointless?

I’m sure it will get a second series, itv can’t commission two big period dramas & then not renew either, it’ll look like they don’t know what they’re doing. Plus Davies has serious clout & will be busily persuading them he’ll write a happy ending this time

Pixel99 · 20/10/2019 20:29

Well, it's nearly 9pm but there is no Sanditon, where it ends with Sidney realising his mistake.

Even if a 2nd series is commissioned, when will it be set? Days, months or years after we left Charlotte and Sidney. Unless it is days, as other PP have said how will they manage it without ruining the charm of how and why they fall in love.

Robin2323 · 21/10/2019 06:10

After a shaky start I loved this.

fishonabicycle · 21/10/2019 06:28

We loved it here. Two gorgeous heroes, a silly old sod, beautiful costumes, a horse and carriage chase, but my husband was devastated by the ending!

GeorgianaDovesHouse · 28/10/2019 15:50

I loved the ending but only because I know Charlotte and Sidney are destined to be together. There was such hurt but such dignity in the way she dealt with her pain. She is such a lovely character. He is, of course, in the mould of Darcy and is such a mouthwatering hero! Cannot wait for the next series.

GeorgianaDovesHouse · 28/10/2019 15:51

As for Tom, God was he annoying. I was all his fault.

newgame989 · 29/10/2019 07:55

Yes he lost a colossal amount because he didn’t have insurance - I don’t know why you wouldn’t think the best outcome wasn’t him gong bankrupt but simply supporting the family and getting someone more sensible to oversee Sanditon!

I can’t imagine many bailing out a brother so unable to manage his affairs

Kit19 · 29/10/2019 13:17

Leo here reminding us why Stringer had to wear that ridiculous hat!

Sanditon ITV
Babybel90 · 29/10/2019 22:52

@newgame989 I suppose it would have been the debtors prison rather than going bankrupt, and it may have ruined the whole family. But it does beg the question why didn’t Lady D insist on seeing proof that insurance was in place as she was bankrolling the whole thing, she seemed pretty shrewd so I doubt she’d leave something like that to chance.

newgame989 · 30/10/2019 06:47

Ah of course you’re right @Babybel90, no modern bankruptcy laws! Yes, seems an awful lot for nobody to have checked!

englishmummyinwales · 05/12/2019 18:20

Bad news Sanditon lovers. According to the popbitch gossip site, the set is being pulled down. How symbolic of Tom’s plight.

And that’s before it’s aired in the US. So no second series. They risked the ending and self destructed in the process.

We will never learn more about millinery options of the ambitious working class hero.

Shame.
