Well that was rubbish.

Babybel90 · 13/10/2019 22:21

Maybe series 2 will be a crossover with Endeavour when Morse has to work out who bumped off the newly wed Mrs Campion. The main suspect being her new husband who didn’t like her much but needed her dish for his idiot brother’s debts?

MouseBatMummy · 13/10/2019 22:22

Absolutely @JaneJeffer! That could have been a winner all round!

colouringinpro · 13/10/2019 22:22

Reveal Yes! that last carriage stop was a fucking shit of a tease.

I'm really pissed off with this!!!

Kit19 · 13/10/2019 22:23

I didn’t want Charlotte to end up with Sidney but I’d rather she not have been crushed like this either

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 13/10/2019 22:24

What I want to see in S2

  • Stringer being Mr Star Architect In London
  • more emphasis on the Parker siblings as a strong loyal family
  • Eliza being effed off at Sidney’s perpetually miserable face and ditching him

I really enjoyed Sidney coming back and admitting he’d made the ultimate sacrifice for his brother. It was stupid but fun.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 13/10/2019 22:24

I really need to get a life.... This has genuinely affected my mood. 😬

englishmummyinwales · 13/10/2019 22:25

Yes Stringer had to give up his dreams for the possible series two that won’t happen. Aaaghhh!! And now I am going to bed in a mood instead of with happy thoughts!

Kit19 · 13/10/2019 22:27

@monchatestmagnifique

I completely feel you! When Drummond was shot in Victoria series 2 and the bereft and completely gay Lord Alfred proposed to a woman in the next episode it ruined by Christmas night I was so angry

Keepitjuicyjuicy · 13/10/2019 22:29

Even the breathtaking Theo James couldn't tempt me past 2 episodes

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 13/10/2019 22:32

I am annoyed at myself for being genuinely upset about a fucking tv programme. I was looking forward to the ending all week.

The explosion of Twitter has made me feel slightly better.

I can't even turn to the archers for comfort this weekend.

IceCreamBrain · 13/10/2019 22:35

JA will be turning in her grave

^ this.

If they're going to advertise it as an unfinished Austen they could at least try to make it Austen-esque.

That was crap, what a waste of my time.

englishmummyinwales · 13/10/2019 22:36

I just had a quick peep on Twitter and think AD might want to take cover for a while.

@MonChatEstMagnifique yes I am in complete agreement. Annoyed at myself for having been so invested and for actually feeling like I wouldn’t mind a little weep.

And I was going to buy the dvd! I won’t now!

MonChatEstMagnifique · 13/10/2019 22:36

Kit19

I didn't watch Victoria, thank goodness, I'd would probably have felt the same...how dare they ruin your Xmas. 😂 Selfish writers.

Even the breathtaking Theo James couldn't tempt me past 2 episodes

To be fair if watch anything with Theo in. He is beautiful. 😍

Imonlydoingwhatican · 13/10/2019 22:39

Followed the thread but not posted ...annoyed with the ending but it seems that was always the plan

But ahead of the show's launch, Andrew Davies told press: "We would love it to come back as a second series. Lots more story to tell."

As for what might happen next, he revealed: "I do have a few ideas.

And in fact the way we end series one, I hope we've ended at a point where the audience is going to say: well you can't end it at that!"

lululup · 13/10/2019 22:40

I am totally sick to my stomach. What an unbelievably crap ending. How is that Jane Austen? She actually died before she could write the ending but what fucking excuse has Andrew Davies got? I don't even think that's in keeping with Sidney's character. The whole series has been ruined for me now.

lululup · 13/10/2019 22:41

And I won't be buying any bloody book or dvd!

MonChatEstMagnifique · 13/10/2019 22:41

And in fact the way we end series one, I hope we've ended at a point where the audience is going to say: well you can't end it at that!"

Well at least Mr Davies will be happy tonight....cos I sure as hell am not !

Shellandwhale · 13/10/2019 22:44

Lol, that was terrible.

Did ITV promise a sequel before that ending was agreed upon?

Leaving aside the ending, it really frustrates me how poor some of the period details are. People using other people's first names freely. The lack of hats in totally hat situations. Charlotte's appearing in the centre of the action when a women of her age and station would not have done.

Can't believe they gave us no further details about Miss Lambe either.

snottysystem · 13/10/2019 22:46

Is the ending more realistic though?

Sewrainbow · 13/10/2019 23:04

Turning in her grave indeed Angry

What a waste of 6 weeks...Hmm

Lex234 · 13/10/2019 23:14

The ending may actually be more true to Austen's change in style and increasing cynicism as her works and life progressed.

S&S and P&P are the "classic" love stories, written much earlier than Lady Susan, for example, which is much darker and less forgiving. Even Persuasion and Mansfield Park have darker themes in them. I think Sanditon is most definitely unfinished by Davies and it will probably end up with the classic ending (I am expecting an Edward Ferrars style release from Sydney's engagement).

I actually think Davies has done a decent job with the material, although I feel like there was too much packed into the last episode. It will be interesting to see if the ton make it into the plot as that would be distinctly non Austen. I hope there will be a second series.

GothMummy · 13/10/2019 23:15

Ahh poor Charlotte. Even though she annoyed me with her unbrushed hair and running around hatless white gowns I would not wish that level of heartbreak on her. Sidney and Eliza do deserve each other, they are both unpleasant. I hope Young Stringer gets over his guilt and accepts the apprenticeship in London and makes a success of his life. The eye candy for me was Edward, but then I have always been a sucker for the wrong sort!

Rhubarb01 · 13/10/2019 23:20

I've just caught up after watching on plus one, and although I was happy for Esther and very sorry for Charlotte, as I did feel her pain, my overriding verdict was - what a waste of time the whole series was!

It was overlong and drawn out over at least two episodes too many. I'm sure the writers knew exactly the reaction that ending would get and did it in the hope of getting another series - but I'm not sure I could be bothered.

Pixel99 · 14/10/2019 00:30

As previous PP have said who is going to buy the DVD. If Mr Davies had other ideas he could have introduced new characters. ( I was actually going to pre order but won't be now either).

I am very disappointed in the ending too. There is no quick fix or win here, should a series 2 be announced. And who would invest their time and emotion. It was all wrong.

And who will want to watch in America / else where now we know there is no happy ending.
