Obsessed with this and particularly Sidney 😍 he’s come a long way from the inbetweeners movie!
I think if there’s no second series the funeral will be young stringer to tie up the love triangle!
By the way anyone else think Ester looks like Katherine Ryan I actually thought it was her in the trailer 😂😂

JaneJeffer · 09/10/2019 18:42

Those outfits weren't very flattering for men unless they were very slim Grin Whoever plays the prince is going to be such a disappointment now (unless it is Hugh Laurie).

I know Esther is shown wearing a black coat in that photograph and there's a teaser with that coffin scene, but I thought I'd seen her wearing black quite a few times in the earlier episodes. In fact, I'd recently noticed that she's starting wearing other colours like that green gown and wondered if it signified a change of heart/attitude to life.

As for Charlotte's hair, it really does annoy me too. I can only assume it's supposed to signify her lower social status or inform us, if we hadn't worked it out already, that she's a free spirit crossed with a dimwit.

Oh...and I'll put a tenner on Mr Darcy, because the way things are going, I wouldn't be at all surprised....Grin

FatherFintanFay · 09/10/2019 19:18

Would love it if the Prince Regent arrived at the ball which is happening in the last episode, took one look at Charlotte, and shouted "Sausage time!". Sidney would have to challenge him to a duel to satisfy her honour. So maybe that's how there ends up being a funeral.

JaneJeffer · 09/10/2019 19:29

Watched it at the start but gave up, none of the people are very nice and it’s all a bit disjointed. Not at Jane Austin I am afraid

FlaviaAlbia · 09/10/2019 19:59

Maybe they'll ruthlessly sacrifice one of Charlotte's brothers or sisters, to force a plot of her being gallantly driven home by Sidney and him declaring his love on the way.

Sure it would be the worst possible timing for a declaration of love and it would be historically improper but hey, so were hand jobs in your aunt's garden.

JaneJeffer · 09/10/2019 21:24

leckford if you accept the fact that it's more Regency soap opera than true JA it's lots of fun.

Oh, now have been watching snippets on Sanditon Twitter I am concerned. Although I love this as a non Austin type story, I want an Austin end to it but the comments of 'can't leave it as this' episode 8 synopsis, and clips lead me to think NOT a happy ending for Charlotte and Sidney. Parkers and Charlotte have to make difficult decision, Can Sanditon be saved with Mrs C back in it, I am presuming death is either Edward or Lady D having relapse after ball or even Mary. I am thinking more will come out about Sidney's past, Eliza will blackmail him to marry her or marry her for money to save Sanditon - ultimately Sidney will give something of himself/huge sacrifice (Charlotte rebuked him for previously) to save town/brother. I can't see Mrs C being nice to save town herself and if Tom/Mary died then Lady D could come to rescue. Mr Stringer is looking Dapper for the ball in another interview (digitaly Spy) so presuming that there may be more trouble at ball than just with Edward. Then the reshowing of clip with Lady Susan saying no such thing as foregone conclusion.. maybe the foregone conclusion is Sidney and Charlotte and this is hinting at not a happy ending. I would be hugely disappointed if it doesn't happen. I am hoping I am wrong.

Kit19 · 10/10/2019 09:50

given that andrew Davies has blatantly said he’s after a second series im certain there will be a twist or cliff hanger. The problem is unless it is something that is cast iron ungettable out of for Sidney like blackmail, any pivot of Charlotte towards stringer will be completely unbelievable. The only possible way of that happening is her accepting his proposal on the rebound and urgh. Incidentally I still don’t understand why Stringer being nice and wanting to better himself is such a terrible character failing according to twitter

I have to say the prospect of sitting through series 2 of ridiculous obstacles/misunderstandings/why the hell don’t you just TALK to each other?? scenarios ending up with Charlotte binning off stringer anyway is pretty depressing....

On the other hand series 2 might actually explain what Sidney sees in Charlotte rather than just expecting us to believe this guy who has been round the park more than a few times is so in love with “a free spirit crossed with a dimwit” (best description ever)

IAmFourEels · 10/10/2019 11:32

My prediction is that SIDNEY WILL DIE and then the second series will be about Young Stringer's career success and slowly blossoming relationship with the mourning-but-then-open-to-new-love Charlotte. Because I'm Team Stringer all the way and refuse to believe she'll end up with Sidney.

FatherFintanFay · 10/10/2019 11:36

IAmFourEels I'd be up for that, only I would like him to realise his self-worth and his improved prospects and find love with someone else who has some wits about her and doesn't get her head turned by a mardy git with a nice arse.

SapatSea · 10/10/2019 12:01

When Sidney said he was his best and truest self when he was with Charlotte it made me snort. He is usually angry, disapproving and critical!

Newgame989 · 10/10/2019 12:26

Maybe that is Sidney’s best self! You’ve got to wonder how he fell for such an obvious cow as Mrs Campion in the first place - you can’t imagine Darcy giving her the time of day.

ScreamingValenta · 10/10/2019 12:31

I think ending on a huge cliffhanger would be a mistake - I don't think I'd want to invest in watching a second series just to find out what happened after series 1 went unresolved. I'd be more likely to watch again if series 1 had a satisfying, Austen-esque ending.

Kit19 · 10/10/2019 12:32

I fully stand by my belief that if Stringer had had a naked scene there wouldnt even be any discussion about who Charlotte should go for 😆

ScreamingValenta · 10/10/2019 12:37

If Stringer had had a half-decent hat instead of that ridiculous upside-down bucket thing, he'd be a better contender for Charlotte's affections Grin.

Kit19 · 10/10/2019 12:54

@ScreamingValenta I also stand by my belief that the hat was a last minute attempt to downgrade Leo suter’s handsomeness

“This is no good he’s really handsome & his character is nice & kind plus he looks age appropriate for Charlotte”
“go and buy the biggest most ridiculous hat you can find, it’s our only chance dammit” 😆

It may or may not make it worse to find out that that style of headwear was known as a "sugar loaf hat" because of its resemblance to said pantry item. I don't think it would still have been remotely fashionable in Regency times, and it might well be a hand-me-down from his grandfather or someone.

JaneJeffer · 10/10/2019 13:17

Isn't it a shame that people stopped wearing hats.

OP posts:
Babybel90 · 10/10/2019 13:42

I think the whole Stringer as a love rival is ridiculous anyway, if Charlotte’s father owns land and has tenants then we can assume they had at least a couple of maids and a cook. She seems pretty used to swanning around all day doing nothing very productive so (and as much as I love young Stringer) she’s hardly likely to accept a proposal from a site foreman who shares a 2 room property with his (now) invalid father whereby she would end up in greatly reduced circumstances scrubbing floors and cooking.

If I were her I’d probably start making eyes at Arthur, even though he’s not got the sex appeal of the other two he’s got plenty of dosh, can offer a comfortable home and pleasant personality - a better prospect than his angry shouty brother who’s been really rude to her and then tried to feel her up on a boat.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 10/10/2019 16:00

😂 Maybe he's saving it for the last episode and thats the reason he has such a large hat ready to cover himself up. There has to be some explanation for the large ugly hat.

Still think Sidney is hotter. Wink

JaneJeffer · 10/10/2019 16:04

Accompanied by an orchestra playing you can leave your hat on?

That would be amazing... Based on some of the other historically inaccurate and odd things in this program, I'm not ruling it out. 😂
