Was surprised that Phil went, but I think the problem was that in the showstopper he showed a fundamental lack of skill and knowledge around flavours.
He used the same mixes and added extracts, rather than infusing the milk with actual things. I think that’s probably what swung it.

Although Priya should have gone. As well as the technical fail, her cake in the signature was one of the worst.

I'm quite enjoying it, especially now there are fewer bakers.

I don't care about 'trad' bakers. I couldn't stick week after week of variations on a Victoria Sponge or things with endless buttercream, bleugh. Sticky buns are nice though.

Next week is 1920s week apparently.

What the hell with the women's hair waving about over the baking. That strange woman who made the ghost cake kept playing with her hair, face and glasses and carried on baking

I didn't love her blowing on her paintbrush before painting on the ghost's face either.

I'm sure the first series described the xxx best amateur bakers in Britain. This lot couldn't even beat the best amateur bakers in my village.

Talking about hair waving around, if this annoys you here, avoid the otherwise rather watchable Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge, in which one of the judges, apparently a famous chef, wafts around with her long loose hair making it all look most unappetising.

I'm just rewatching episode 1 of series 3, which is the 1st series that I watched fully instead of just dipping in and out. I had almost forgotten how much i totally loved Brendan

Michelle is the welsh one isn’t she? I quite like her and I bet it’s been heavily edited to give her that persona.
One of last years contestants is on Twitter a lot talking about how they edit stuff to give people a particular character.
He isn’t always positive about it...and I think has had run ins with the production company at times.

I’ve just about given up on this show, though I’ve enjoyed it in the past. Too much non-baking, and contestants deliberately not given enough time. Ridiculous. And then the wrong person gets sent home. As far as I can tell, the worst person was not sent home week 1 and week 4. Am just going to watch An extra slice from now on, not as annoying and much more fun.

Watch the old ones one Netflix lancashire! They are so much better and due to my appalling memory I can't remember who goes out each week!

DH is out tonight so I'm having a binge. Halfway through series 3 now 😁

Aww it’s a shame so many people on this this thread find Helena annoying, I think she is fun. This is the first series I’ve watched since it went over to C4, and Paul has become a caricature of himself. Maybe Mary kept him in check. Also Prue is a legend, but doesn’t have the kindness and warmth that Mary did.

I've just read that there's the first Bake-Off romance. Apparently Alice and Henry are dating.

Not enjoying this series very much. I think it is mostly to do with growing realisation of what an unpleasant man Paul Hollywood is. Love prue and sandy and Noel. This week’s baking was ‘messy’ and I couldn’t connect with it somehow.

I’m exactly the same. I watched religiously for years but this year I don’t care if I miss part of a show and I tend to not pay full attention to it. DH asked last week why I wasn’t watching it as it was a programme I looked forward to for years.

Apart from it being ridiculously drawn out. I have always recorded it so skip the ads since it moved to C4, but it is dull this year. The bakes are not interesting. Sandy and Noel are nice. Pure is ok. Paul is a horrid man. It’s just dull. I think it is past it’s sell by date.

But could you imagine? Their babies would be so perfect that they’d probably come out wearing hand knitted outfits and will have baked their own christening cake by utilising the placenta. (This will be in episode 7 this series anyway)

And they will immediately do a Hollywood handshake to mummy Alice for doing such a good job pushing.
