Michael and David (who I'm actually really enjoying now as he's got a lot more comfortable in the tent so I shall no longer refer to him as pretentious twat - sorry Squid blush) are my favourites. I'm not sure Michael can last much longer although I'm thinking he's just had a couple of rough weeks, but I'd like to see David make the final at least. He's been really consistent and his flapper biscuits were absolutely beautiful!!

Haha that's ok! He was very thoroughly screened to make sure he could deal with people making random comments about him apparently!
And I'm dead proud of him cause he's doing so well (robbed of star baker every week in my opinion Grin )

Echoing everyone's complaints that this is not the programme it used to be. Though Sandy T and Noel thingie are growing on me (and definitely an improvement on that annoying pair on the BBC - don't shoot me, I know that's a minority opinion).

Anyway, it's ceased to be a pleasure to watch since they started setting such ridiculous assignments with such tight deadlines. It's not just the technical difficulty, it's also the continuously ramping up of the standard of presentation. It was the same last season. I mean really, how many normal people can even aspire to some of the techniques used (chandeliers, as someone mentioned, but also weird gel concoctions etc.)? And yes, surely you'd have practised choux and other standards before the competition?

As for who gets rejected. Completely illogical.

ppeat (hello!), What annoys me is the unspoken idea that we WANT to see harsh competitiveness across the board on telly and radio, everything has to be DRAMATIC why why why??????

I know. Maybe we all need to contact C4/Love Productions and make our opinions known? I think I am going to write to them both, actually. If they're sensible they will be paying attention to viewer feedback.

Good idea, this is their email address [email protected].
I think I'll ask them to return to age diversity, more mainstream baking (even if it's been covered in earlier series), gentler judging and a reduction in fake peril and drama!
Maybe just a link to this thread!
For my own part though I'm loving the introduction of Pru, Noel and Sandy. Never particularly warmed to Mary Berry or Sue Perkins and I could do without Paul Hollywood.

I'm happy to write to them too, but I'd be worried in them linking my RL persona with my anonymity here.

Thanks for the address!
imposter, I don't think the suggestion of a link to this thread is entirely serious Smile although I'll certainly be paraphrasing a few of the comments I agree with as well as making my own.

Oh whew! but you get my drift. We're easily googleable. Didn't this thread use to be off the beaten track?

pies make me happy.

Me, too.Numbers

I often flirt with Cake, but my True Love is Pie. Especially the delicious crispness that is a good hot water cost, filled with rich porky poorness and sweet, sweet jelly. (Why do bought pork pies never have jelly in them any more? - it's the best bit.)

Never particularly warmed to Mary Berry or Sue Perkins and I could do without Paul Hollywood.

Absolutely Handkerchief. PH is just a bloated ego in a beard. I never cared for Mary, but it's like the old song "you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone." Sad

Ah piggyporkiness pies. With jelly. I know resemble Cujo. Or Homer Simpson. Probably the latter. With more chin hair.

And you don’t know what you got till it’s gone...

Now. Not know.

I’ve been up since 3. I need a pie for restorative purposes - stat. Or whatever it is they say on ER...

Either the judges are sending home the wrong people or the editors are deliberately cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the right people. Or possibly a bit of both.

I am remarkably ungrabbed by this series. "Twenties" just isn't a theme, really. Beignets were an interesting technical but the other two challenges were uninspiring. And the contestants are too homogenous; I don't particularly care which of them wins and I struggle to remember which of them baked what after each episode finishes.

well, all this talk of pies , means I will be making my DM's ( frankly enormous ) hot water crust hand raised pork pie for Christmas . I haven't done one for a couple of years . But I just know that if I do make one , i will get a lot of visitors ..Grin
I will keep reading the thread, but won't be bothering to watch anymore . Decided life is too short.

@bookbook

In the words (kind of) Chief Brody ‘you’re gonna need a bigger pie’ 👩‍🍳

Farewell and adieu to your great piggypieness, farewell and adieu to your great pig of pie...

Show me the way to your pie. I’m tired and I want to go to bed. I had a little pie about an hour ago and it’s gone straight to my head...

And now I’m blethering mince. Or minced pork. It is tiredness. Apologies for the tangent and the going off thereof.

I will not need your address. I can smell two crumbs of pie in 500 miles of air. Like Jaws.

Can you imagine me when I’ve had a Christmas sherry? Your worst nightmare. Like Jaws. Grin

I clearly need a sleep.

Sorry.

Well, if they think they're doing that they're not doing it very well; I didn't really have an inkling that Helena or Michelle were in trouble!
