Something didn't feel quite fair tonight. I thin Phil wuz robbed.

Priya and Michael are maybe better bakers but it looked like they were not better bakers this week.

What are they baking next week? Jelly?

shearwater · 18/09/2019 05:36

There were so many things they could have done in dairy week that would have made more of a showstopper than those sweets. None of the results looked showstopperish. They were all rubbish last night in the technical and showstopper.

Stellaris22 · 18/09/2019 06:10

I think the sweet challenge might have finally beaten the awful biscuit chandelier for worst challenge ever.

I'm getting really bored of spooky cakes from Halloween lady, it's getting boring now. And I wish she'd do something about her hair, don't think I'd want to eat anything she made because of it. I'm assuming Phil was booted off mainly because of his age, it's all feeling very over produced now and I can't sit through whole episodes anymore.

ageingdisgracefully · 18/09/2019 07:13

I can't sit throught it either @Stellaris22

I don't want to think it, but I also think Phil has been kicked off because he doesn't fit.

They're all youngish and so bloody samey...

Rosie stands out for looking as if she may actually have a personality and I like Henry's sense of humour.

I can't even get interested in the "baking" . Welsh woman's mishti offering looked like snotGrinShock.

I think this is my last year of watching.

jay55 · 18/09/2019 08:01

Phil went because they couldn't kick Priya off on Indian sweets week and Michael was given a pass for being star baker last week.

Tonnerre · 18/09/2019 08:43

The stupid thing is that in the past they have kicked good bakers off for having one bad week, even when they were star bakers the previous week. Not allowing enough time to complete your bake really is an elementary mistake.

StarlingsInSummer · 18/09/2019 10:45

Just watching An Extra Slice from biscuit week and having a moment of cognitive dissonance as I realised Kathy Burke and Jo Brand aren't the same person.

ageingdisgracefully · 18/09/2019 10:59

Interesting, @jay55. Hmm

Marcipex · 18/09/2019 16:39

I rather like Prue, but she doesn’t seem to have much to say.
And all the criticisms seem so samey.
It’s a bit dry/underbaked/overbaked etc.
Not exactly interesting advice from experts.

5foot5 · 18/09/2019 17:04

So many bundt cakes! I have no idea why!

@Xmasbaby11 I commented on this to DD and I am sure they have been used several times before on this series. I was saying how I quite liked the look of them but when she checked on the Lakeland site they seemed to be out of stock. Must be like the Delia effect.

shearwater · 18/09/2019 17:07

I disagree, I think Prue has far more food knowledge and experience than Mary Berry (and Paul put together) and I really respect her comments.

StarlingsInSummer · 18/09/2019 17:42

I do feel like the comments are a bit repetitive. Partly it’s because it seems to me as though only one or two of them muck up each round. So there’s quite a lot of samey praise. That’s just my impression though - seemed like in previous series, each challenge there would only be one or two really good bakes, and lots of more mediocre ones, then a couple of terrible ones. Maybe there’s less of a bell curve this year?

Jesaminecollins · 18/09/2019 17:45

I know I should be just interested in the cooking but Paul is getting on my nerves! He is an egotistical twat! Sorry for that out burst but the way he has treated his wife and son is disgusting.....

Ginfordinner · 18/09/2019 17:50

Has anyone noticed just how quickly Rosie talks? She gabbles.

noodlenosefraggle · 18/09/2019 19:17

Those maids of honour tarts looked disgusting. Lemon curd (nice) topped with some bleugh curled milk concoction and baked. Yuk! That article is funny though. They have just described what happened in the episode as a newspaper article as if it was for people who don't have a telly?!

noodlenosefraggle · 18/09/2019 19:18

Agree Infisn sweets aren't baking. They are cooking and frying! A baked cheesecake would be dairy and baking if they want to shoehorn a random weird week in.

noodlenosefraggle · 18/09/2019 19:25

To be fair re: Priya being Indian, I'm Indian descent and my mum stopped making those sweets in the 80's sometime because you can just go down the shops and get them. She did try to make kulfi a few weeks ago, but again, better and less faff yo go to the shop!

Piggywaspushed · 18/09/2019 19:31

Curd cheese isn't bleurgh! It's used all the time in Yorkshire in curd tarts. It's actually really nice...

doughnutsare4ever · 18/09/2019 20:17

I always buy Maids of Honour at Newens in Kew who pride themselves of selling the original, and never have I seen a rose stencil on them.

I'd love to know what they think about Paul's recipe.

noodlenosefraggle · 18/09/2019 20:45

Ok fair enough I have a thing about curdled milk, so would never even think of eating one!

Piggywaspushed · 18/09/2019 21:26

It's curd cheese rather than milk : the programme didn't really describe it well....

Ginfordinner · 18/09/2019 21:53

Curd cheese is very similar to corrage cheese

noodlenosefraggle · 18/09/2019 22:32

Err you're not really selling it to me...

SanFranBear · 18/09/2019 22:50

Just watched as was out last night and I get cross when the challenges are not actually baking. This isn't just a C4 thing though - there were some questionable ones on the BBC too. I definitely remember some sort of pancake thing where they had to stagger the start so Mary & Paul could eat them straight away?

But back to last night... I can't actually believe that Phil went. I really like Michael and despite his balls up, his cake was delicious so I would've been unhappy had he gone but Priya didn't even complete the technical..! I don't remember her first round cake (and I have literally just finished watching - so memorable, obviously) but she didn't complete an entire third of the week. She should've gone - no question.

I think that, sadly, I have to agree with a pp who said Phil went as he didn't fit - absolutely this! He wasn't great this week, don't get me wrong, but Priya should've been the one to leave.

I wasn't as bored as last week but I certainly wasn't as gripped as i have been in the past either. I'll stick it out, I expect, but probably moaning all the way Smile
