I wouldn't bother watching if Noel wasn't in it.

BananaPlant · 10/09/2019 21:44

We know your Welsh. You mention it every five minutes.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/09/2019 21:50

Yeah I found Rose's voice irritating at first too sweetpea but I actually think she seems like a nice girl now so have gotten over myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/09/2019 21:51

I'm liking Priya too.

AppleKatie · 10/09/2019 22:05

I like Rosie, Priya, Alice and the welsh one.

Laydee dough can go just for that comment alone tbh.

Marcipex · 10/09/2019 22:13

DH switched over for the footy.
Recorded it for tomorrow.

It doesn’t seem packed with personality this year.

AnOojamaflip · 10/09/2019 22:13

I still can't figure out who's who - they are all are a bit bland like underseasoned bread arent they.

Skinnychip · 10/09/2019 22:44

*EntirelyAnonymised

Paul’s hideous poking sausage finger.

Bread week is his chance to show off and be BillyBigBollocks. Pathetic little worm that he is*

Watched with DD(13) she is offended that he cuts the bread straight onto the table (and not on a board) and that the greedy pig he cuts such a mahoosive piece just for him and Pru (and why is he always in charge of tearing/cutting/general destruction??)

And i am soo offended by his prodding poking finger squishing aggressively into all that bread!!

Itallt0omuch · 11/09/2019 07:17

I really really can't bear Alice. She's so over dramatic and attention seeking. I'm all for women being confident but she's actually playing at being unsure of herself when she clearly knows what she's doing. Add in all the hair flicking and the flamenco costume she was wearing this week.

ageingdisgracefully · 11/09/2019 10:26

@Itallt0omuch that's spot on about Alice.

I'm struggling not to smash the telly when she's on it.

If she's a teacher, I'm the Queen Mother! How the jeffing heck does she command a class with all that squealing, prancing and flicking..oh and the "yeah"- ing. Beyond irritating.

Stellaris22 · 11/09/2019 10:37

I'm still forgetting who everyone is. I hate to say it but I think bake off is on it's way out. Lost all its charm and I'm not warming to any contestants yet or remembering names, none of them have any charisma like previous contestants.

I like all the hosts and judges except Paul, would like Prue to take charge as I like her. I find myself tuning out and not being hooked like I used to.

jackparlabane · 11/09/2019 11:13

I'm loving this series. OK, there's only one person over 35 but there's never been more than two anyway, one of whom gets disposed of in the first couple weeks. Sandi and Noel add irreverent surrealism to it all and everyone treats Paul as that embarrassing arrogant uncle who thinks he knows everything.

I like Michelle and Rosie, Michael and older guy. Spooky woman is a bit annoying but very glad both Dan and Jamie have gone. My kids are loving the various animals (and ds and I like the innuendo even if it is scripted - and even if simple, thick and clumsy was rather harsh on Jamie)

Itallt0omuch · 11/09/2019 11:35

I think I'm losing interest in it too.

ageingdisgracefully · 11/09/2019 12:06

I think it's probably run its course. I have a feeling they're trying too hard to appeal to a younger audience which I don't think is a good idea as the appeal was always across the board.

I like the vet and the older guy and Organ Man because of the scope for innuendo.

Just not warming up to the bakers atm.

jay55 · 11/09/2019 12:58

Watched on catch up this morning.
I loved the technical, well the baps not the burgers. It felt like a proper early round challenge.

And I liked that the showstopper was asking for technique. I wonder if Paul is fed up of all the overly complex/obscure challenges.

Still not particularly warming to anyone on talent or personality.

DontFeedTheCatCake · 11/09/2019 13:43

I didn't bother to watch last night. That's a first. They've made a massive mistake with this year's demographic.

BalloonSlayer · 11/09/2019 16:08

I fell asleep! Who went home?

DontFeedTheCatCake · 11/09/2019 18:53

OK, there's only one person over 35 but there's never been more than two anyway, one of whom gets disposed of in the first couple weeks.

That didn't seem right so I had a quick look back to see why it feels so young this year.

2018 - 4 were over 35
2017 - 6 were over 35
2016 - 5 were over 35
2015 - 7 were over 35 and one was 35
2014 - 7 were over 35 and one was 35

squid4 · 11/09/2019 21:42

David is 36!

Butteredtoast55 · 11/09/2019 22:24

It’s never really recovered from the move to C4 has it? I think that Paul Hollywood is actually the problem and he was a bully to poor Amelia. Even when Prue stuck up for the quality of her bread, he totally talked over her so he could humiliate a 24 year old. He’s loathsome. Getting rid of him and reintroducing more straightforward bakes, less faux jeopardy and reducing people to tears would all help. If you ever catch the old episodes on Food Network etc they are just so much more enjoyable.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 11/09/2019 22:57

I cracked and watched it.

Making burger buns in the bread week technical was a low. It doesn't require any additional recipe know-how. I did quite like the scoring challenge though.

I think what's missing is the love of baking for its own sake; baking for family and friends. This lot appear to be more in love with themselves & seem to be too busy dreaming about their instagram followers.

Leftielefterson · 11/09/2019 23:15

I didn’t like the bun challenge but loved the tear and share, my mouth was salivating. It is quite samey but I nevertheless enjoy it.

Itallt0omuch · 12/09/2019 07:27

Paul has always been my issue with Bake-Off but up till now there has been enough else going on to distract me from the horror that is his ego. Prue hardly gets to talk which is a shame, and it feels like she is Paul's sidekick. Sandi and Noel worth watching but the pp is right about the contestants just trying to appeal to Instagram followers.

Egghead68 · 13/09/2019 00:28

It’s so hard to care about any of them this year.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 13/09/2019 12:10

Tedious is the word I think. We are watching it out of habit really. Dh is usually asleep by the showstopper and only wakes up to see who got the boot. Dd wanders off to find something else to do.

I agree with pp who says they only watch it for Noel. He is such a sweetheart.

Witchy lady needs to do something else this week.

Welsh lady - yes we know you like Rugby.

I like Rosie. Alice is annoying.

There seem to be more of the videos of the contestants home lives than ever. It's soooooo boring!

I dislike PH immensely. Strutting around smugly all the time. Gross. His off screen behaviour is yack. I think this could be his last year.
