Aargh. Must stop using my Swype keyboard! Was supposed to start with this will probably be

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 05/09/2019 10:25

I'm with you don't feed. I'm not inspired to bake anything. I'm not entertained, because it's too twee and I don't actually care enough about any of the contestants.

It's not for me anymore.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2019 12:02

Where d'ye fancy going then? Can I come?

PhannyMcNee · 05/09/2019 13:05

See I'm the opposite, I'd fallen out of love with GBBO in the final BBC series - nothing I could put my finger on. I really like Pru, Sandi and Noel (although I did like Mel & Sue a lot too). BUT I watch with half an eye so perhaps miss some of the crazy camera stuff?

AnnaNimmity · 05/09/2019 13:57

I quite like it - it takes a while to get to know the contestants - the young men are quite similiar and the perky bright lipstick women.

I like Alice the best (she reminds me of a sloany Patty Simcox) and Rosie so far.

Is the Jo Brand spin-off programme on too? I like that better I think....

BonnesVacances · 05/09/2019 15:48

Yes! That's exactly who she reminds me of. Thanks. It would have bugged me for ages.

shadypines · 05/09/2019 20:10

The demographic this year is far too young, it's Bake Off, not bloody Love Island LOL Grin CatCake

And @Skinnychip, I too am old (ish), not sure if it's that, I think this roadrunner style editing would have annoyed me when I was 20!

Mary, Mel and Sue were like having your mum/granny/aunty/sisters in the kitchen. Prue and Paul are more like an evil Headmistress (thinking Miss Trunchbull) and a predatory uncle.

Cheers Brew Anywhere with Cake would do. Just as long as it's proper cake and not architecture.

Anyone else care to join us?

I agree PhannyMcNee I never liked Mary Berry. I liked Mel and Sue, but they never did anything different and I felt like I could predict what they were going to say before they said it.

Paul and Prue seem to get on better than Paul and Mary imo.

The early weeks are always like this in terms of getting to know contestants and things feeling faster, there's just more to cover.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/09/2019 08:53

I'm with @PhannyMcNee, I got a bit sick of the old team. I found Mel genuinely warm, Sue less so. I think people got a bit reverential towards Mary and it all became about her.

I really like Prue, with her mad specs and Haribo jewellery!

Paul's getting so full of himself he's in danger of splitting. I will say Mary kept him in his place.

The camera shots are too choppy. It's not modern and edgy, it's just shit.

HeddaGarbled · 06/09/2019 09:02

If you look back on last year’s thread and the year before and the year before etc, posters say exactly the same for the first several episodes: it’s not as good as it was, I don’t care about any of the contestants etc. Then we get down to less contestants and we get to know them, and the tone of the thread changes completely. Same with Love Island and all the rest.

DontFeedTheCatCake · 06/09/2019 10:00

Take your point Hedda, but the demographic won't change, and that's the thing I dislike most this year. It's actually been touted as having the youngest set of contestants ever - as if that's something positive Hmm

ageingdisgracefully · 06/09/2019 10:43

I also get the feeling that the contestants are more interested in self-promotion than baking.

Somehow some of the cosy warmth has gone..and that's what GBBO is about for me..slobbing about after work dreaming of unattainable cakes and knowing that summer won't be back. A kind of rite of passage for Autumn viewing.

Follow the sponge-y cake rooooaaaad

Follow, follow, follow, follow etc

ageingdisgracefully · 07/09/2019 11:26

Mmm....I quite liked Extra Slice last night. I think I enjoyed it better than Gbbo itself.

I'm even liking Tom Allen. Couldn't stand him at first.

Piggywaspushed · 07/09/2019 12:28

I liked Alice, Alice, who the fudge is Alice?

Seen enough to eye you
But I've seen to much to try you
It's always weirdness while you
Dig it much too much to fry you
The weirdness flows between us
Anyone can tell to see us
Freak scene just can't believe us
Why can't it just be cool and free us?

I miss the historical stuff, I still look back fondly at the Sally lunn bun segment.Smile

whatashower · 10/09/2019 19:58

To friends old and new.
Talk about being late to the party.
Was somewhere remote without WiFi.
To be honest, you are not really selling this to me but will keep open mind (and stomach 😀)
