I was never a big fan of hers but this show is making me feel very sad. Jade was in her own way quite vulnerable and naive and she was treated horribly by the press. She did some stupid things on camera including stripping off (though the other contestants made no effort to tell her it wasn't the best idea and that awful Kate whatsherface looked positively gleeful) but I feel for her more now than I did then.

And to think she was so full of life and was taken so young is just heart breaking

I do however think her mum shouldn't have been interviewed at all. Awful woman!

Jack was in it. Confused that was him with the dark hair that talked about proposing to her by the Thames.

My heart went out to Jeff watching that. He really had no choice but to go along with the circus for Jade even though you could see he thought it was all wrong.

I was appalled at the News of the World's branded floral display. It was disgraceful and summed them up.

Didn't all the money she made from selling her cancer story end up going to the tax man.

I heard that she didn't understand (wasn't properly advised) that she needed to sort her own tax. So she ended up leaving a massive tax bill behind. It ate up most of the kids inheritance. But Max made his commission off it all so at least that perverted scum bag was ok

That was hard to watch. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing being dredged up again. Last week when we saw that ugly row with Shilpa I thought of Jade's sons and how they shouldn't have to see their Mum like that as she isn't here to explain her behaviour to them. Looking back it's hard to believe that certain media outlets were queuing up to film a woman on her deathbed. Horrific. And that slimy creep Max Clifford came to a very bad end. A sorry tale all round, Jade was just a product of a very bad childhood and was badly let down by Jackie, the TV companies and agents and Jack her husband. Only Jeff comes out of all of this with any dignity.

Yes couldn't have put it better myself. Didn't even watch tonight as still feels like they are kind of exploiting her memory, although I wasn't a superfan or anything it can't be nice for her family to see this. Hopefully her boys won't watch.

So so sad. I can't believe they filmed her being told she had cancer. The amount of filming at then end was horrendous. My lovely dad died of cancer earlier this year, he was so weak and vulnerable at then end and the idea of that being filmed is awful. Poor jade, she was despera he to help her boys.

What struck me was how much energy she appeared to have even so close to the end (dancing at the wedding! Playing pranks on the paparazzi with her PT) my exMIL has just completed radiotherapy after chemo and she was fit for nothing. Admittedly she is older than jade was but even so, that shit takes an undeniable toll on your body and sleep patterns. How was jade still able to get up and be cheery and pranking and dancing? How?

The bridesmaids said Jade was highly dosed up to make it through the day and was in so much pain.

I think it's a terribly sad story, no parent should be taken from their young children in such a cruel way. I'm glad it sent uptake on cervical al screening high, that's one good thing that came out of her suffering.

It was all so very sad. She was so young and naive when she first went into Big Brother and seemed to be exploited from the start. Max Clifford was very rightly described as a vampire by Paul Morley. It's awful to say, but I'm glad he died the way he did.

The media were vultures.

That was very tough viewing. I remember it but it didn't make the same impact. I remember being sad for her boys but, watching it all now, I find it horrific and heartbreaking. Maybe we were harder back then. Regardless of what you thought of her, to watch her receive that diagnosis and then get weaker and weaker until the end, was awful. It's quite disturbed me.

The media were indeed vultures, but who was buying the papers that made it worthwhile for them to get all those photos and stories? The public. The public wanted that. The papers would make no money on those photos if the public didn’t want them.

Joxer ive seen a lot more than one 50+ woman popping Heat or Closer in their trolley so they can catch up on Love Island gossip. Its not neccessarily the demographic we think that reads this stuff.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 22/08/2019 00:34

I didn’t mention any age group or demographic Confused I don’t know why you think I didn’t mean 50+ women when I said “the public” because I’ve never assumed 50+ women don’t read celeb mags. I know they do. I see them sitting in the hairdressers reading them.

Yes i know you didnt It just tends to be the assumption that its young people who do because thats who the shows are aimed at and the participants themselves are usually young.

I'll admit to reading the magazines and tabloids at the time. I made the decision to give up buying or reading them a few years ago when I realised how awful they are, especially to women, but during Jade Goody's time I did read them. I didn't remember the manner in which she was told, though, and hadn't seen that footage before. The way they did that was awful. When she asked in desperation whether it was some kind of task 😟

I agree the media were like vultures although she did court the attention and she got her final wish which was to leave her boys with a lot of money. She sacrificed her own privacy to ensure they would be looked after. When you consider the life she had growing up and the lack of sacrifices made by her own mother you can kind of understand her drive to ensure her children had a better life. It's the one thing she was in control of during that time I suppose.

I hope her mother in thoroughly ashamed of herself. Good on her for not allowing Jade to buy her a new house, though.

It's sad how she died and that her boys were left without a mum. It's also great that people took the condition more seriously.

But, to me, she'll always be the big brother racist along with Danielle and Jo. That behaviour was disgusting and no matter where you start in life, you know that's wrong.

Report
GeriAtric · 22/08/2019 08:28

I think it's a she for someone to be defined and remembered for one mistake. I think, like a lot of people, she didn't realise she was being racist at the time. Her behaviour, and that if the other young women, clearly was racist but she was probably of the mindset that "I'm not a racist...I've got black friends". That type of thing. She learnt a very public lesson about what racism actually is - that it's okay to dislike and not get on with someone of another race, but as soon as you bring their race into your disagreement it's racism. I think she made amends for her mistake.
